View 6 Replies View RelatedI set up a w2k machine as a print server and all my XP machines print from it just fine. My 7 machine on the other hand just says my password for the user is wrong when I try to access it in network. I have tried a user account admin/pass and administrator admin/pass and do have a password set on the w2k machine (I thought passwording it may help). I can access XP machines from both w2k and 7. Any help would be great.
I may just have to upgrade it to xp, its a 466 celeron tho

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have checked my DELL Latitude 6500 laptop running WinXP Pro using the Windows 7 upgrade advisor tool, and everythihng is a go. I also know that I need to do a good backup of my critical files and the pictures I want to keep.I have had many people tell me that before I make such a change in operating systems, do a backup first, because Windows 7 requires a clean startup, because there is no upgrade from XP to Win7.Is there an easy way to keep these work related files, and .jpg pictures using a simpler backup process than the software backup program called Acronis?I have also read that there is a program that will run at the same time as Windows 7, like a separate operating system called XP Mode. As I understand it, XP mode runs in a separate window on the Windows 7 desktop, much like a program, except it's a fully functional version of Windows XP. In Windows XP Mode, I think you can also access your computer's CD/DVD drive, install programs, save files, and perform other tasks as if you were using a computer running Windows XP.I am not sure Acronis can be installed on this DELL Out-of-Warranty Win XP laptop, if I am currently using it for my desktop with Win 7 Ultimate. Once the critical files and .jpg photos are saved on an external hard drive, can I bring them back onto the laptop on the same harddrive with the new operating system Win 7 files, or do I need to partition the laptop harddrive, or does it matter if I use them with Win XP Mode?
View 18 Replies View RelatedI tried to do a Repair Install following this tutorial, but the Compatibility Report says:"Windows 7 Professional cannot be upgraded to Windows 7 Professional. You can choose to install a new copy of Windows 7 Professional instead, but this is different from an upgrade, and does not keep your files, settings, and programs. You'll need to reinstall any programs using the original installation discs or files. To save your files before installing Windows, back them up to an external location such as a CD, DVD, or external hard drive. To install a new copy of Windows 7 Professional, click the Back button in the upper left-hand corner, and select "Custom (advanced)"." I have Win 7 SP1, but only a Win 7 disc without SP1.

I've installed my version of MS Office(2000 Premium) on Windows 7, and everything seems to work fine, except outlook. I get two different errors:
1)An error occurred while attempting to open the Windows Address Book. Unable to find the WAB.DLL.
2)Unable to update public free/busy data. An error occurred while attempting to open the Windows Address Book. Unable to find the WAB.DLL
I've been searching the web, with no concrete results for 7. I've found references for everything from Win 95 up through Vista, but, not 7.As I understand it, these are included in Outlook express, which, of course isn't available in 7. Each reference it to 'reinstall OE'. 7 doesn't give you that option, as its not a native application to 7.One reference suggested copying WAB.DLL as well as WAB32.DLL to the sytem32 directory. Didn't work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using MS Office 2000 professional with Windows 7 (64 bit) and have no problems with it except the following that has cropped up a short time ago.MS Word in MS Office 2000 Professional has a function "Send to" and up to recently I could use the function to send a MS Word document via Windows Live Mail. Now however on my desktop a mail program called "Foxmail" is shown up but Windows Live Mail is missing while on my laptop no email program is shown. In both cases the "Send To" function shows as being able to send to a fax recipient or to MS Powerpoint.I use Windows Live Mail as my regular email program and would like to use it with MS word. Should it work and if so, how do I remove Foxmail and add Windows Live Mail to my Desktop and just add it to my Laptop?
