I have been having a problem with my home network crashing when using WIndows 7. For some reason, whenever I tried to access shared folders or computers on my home network, windows 7 would show "limited connectivity" and I would lose my internet connection. The crazy thing, is that Windows 7 was somehow causing my router to fail because all of my networked computers lost their connections (wired and wireless) until I reset the router and restarted windows 7.
I recently turned off "network discovery" in my network control panel in WIndows 7, and the problem seems to have stopped. But now I still can't access shared computers, folders, or printers. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
Router: Belkin wireless G router with the latest firmware
Adapter: Realtech integrated into my gigabyte motherboard
Windows 7 build 7100 64bit (Although I've had the same problem with other early Windows 7 builds)
I'm trying to gain complete network access between a Windows 7 desktop (Win7 Home Premium SP 1) and a laptop (Win7 Ultimate). I remember back in the old days of XP, all you had to do is enable file sharing, right click on the hard drive or folder you'd like to share, name it, share it and press "okay." The files I'd like to share are on the Desktop computer. When I go to HomeGroup/Advanced Sharing Settings, and make changes, press save, none of the settings actually save. I'm trying to turn on "Network Discovery" and "File and print sharing."Is HomeGroup the only way to share files over a network?
I have just done a fresh re-install of Windows 7 Ultimate on my Dell XPS M1530 laptop. I was trying to connect my PS3 and Laptop together and one of the steps is to turn on network discovery. Every time I try to click on the network discovery and save changes, it automatically goes back to off. I've checked my services that are running in services.msc and it seems that everything is running fine.
Windows 7 Home Premium Already did all this from other posts DNS Client service started and on automatic SSDP Discovery service started and on automatic UPnP Device Host service started and on automatic Function Discovery Resource Publication service started and on automatic I also confirmed that IP version 6 was enabled.
Also checked and Base Filtering service is enabled
I have 2 machines on a router, one is a desktop the other is a laptop.
The desktop can see itself and the laptop under Network, however, the laptop sees itself but NOT the desktop.
Both have network discovery and file and printer sharing enabled for both home and public networks, both can ping eachother, I can use the laptop to access the desktop's FTP even though it doesn't see it on Network, but all in all I can't get its NAME to appear in the Network, so I always have to use its IP.
Whenever I turn network discovery on and click save changes, I go right back to edit advanced sharing settings to find that it has set itself back to off automatically.
How do I turn off Network discovery? I turn it off on my laptop (call it LaptopA) but on when, on another laptop (call it LaptobB), I click on view other devices, LaptopA is visible. Is there any way to make LaptopA invisible?I have Windows 7 Home Premium...I think it's 64 bit.
I am trying to turn on network discovery, but it won't let me. The message just keeps showing up.I think it has to do with the Computer Browser service, which I also can't turn on. It just shuts itself off after 3 seconds. Also, although I'm connected to wifi, it shows a LAN icon with a red X in the tray.
I'm running Windows 7 Professional and it's completely up to date. I use it at home and at work in a domain. Network discovery is enabled but it's not working (not discovering any other pcs or printers on either the home network or in the domain). The only computer that shows up in the network is my computer. If I enter a valid name (\name) in explorer, it opens. I first noticed this when I tried to install the driver for a network printer. It can't find the printer so the installation failed. However, if I try to add the printer from windows and search for it on the network, the printer does show up.
OS : Windows 7 Professional SP1 (x64) Firewall Software : Windows Firewall Other protection software : MalwareBytes AntiMalware and Microsoft Security Essentials
I can't seem to turn on my File and Printer Sharing and Network Discovery options from the Network and Sharing Center. I go to the sharing options, and click turn on to both of them. Then after I confirm by pressing save, if I come back they've returned to their previous turned off position.
I tried a few things and have searched online for the last hour or so, but I'm willing to follow directions if someone is more used to this problem than I am. I also searched these forums but sadly the word "on" is one of the main points of this and words shorter than 3 letters are rejected from the search engine, so the results weren't really related.
I have 2 PCs connected to a Win 2003 Ent server domain (not R2 - this is the original 2003 version), although the Domain was originally setup using Win2K My laptop, which connects wirelessly has network discovery turned on and no probs. My desktop (Wkstn1), however, does not allow me to turn on the service. I'm on a domain not homegroup.
Both Win 7 installs were upgrades on Vista Ultimate, and both PCs have pretty much the same software. I'm using ESET Nod32 v4 on both (server has no AV). I was at one time able to turn on Network discovery (share drives and printers on the domain). Now no go.
The server has DHCP and DNS enabled on a static IP, and AD of course. I reserved IPs for the 2 PCs on the network. The gateway is a hardware firewall router (Watchguard) which also has a static IP.
I've tried resetting the Wkstn1 account (and resubmitting credentials) to see if that improves things but no. Group policy updates fine.
On my desktop computer, when I go to Network & Sharing Center and select Change Advanced Sharing Settings, Turn off network discovery and Turn off file and print sharing are both selected. I click on the Turn on options and then click on Save Changes but when I come back to this screen, they're turned off again. I can't print from my (wireless) laptop now.
How can I get rid of Network discovery discovering "Non existant" computers - even AFTER a reboot
The computer BIGLAPTOP no longer exists on my network anymore (not even as a logged off or powered off Virtual Machine).
How do I remove it from Network discovery. In any case I shouldn't have to --surely Network Discovery should only be able to find computers STILL attached to the network - so if this mythical machine is still on the network WHERE IS IT.
Sometimes there's a problem of NOT FINDING connected machines but FINDING NON connected machines -- now thats strange. (I'm running newly installed - clean) build 7100 x-64).
So I can't turn on Network Discovery to share files etc via network. I'm on Windows 7.I googled and found one specific solution, which was to make sure several services were set to automatic and started. All but one specific service would not cooperate " FUNCTION DISCOVERY RESOURCE PUBLICATION".Alas, I googled this fix as well, it came up with a dozen suggestions, from creating a new windows account, launching applications via admin privilege, resetting nstat stuff via cmd...even copying over some new keys in the reg, and even editing one called BFE....all failed.I had this same problem on my other laptop, but samsungs running windows 7. I don't know what to do at this point. I've spent about 6 hours googling and attempting fixes. This is the error after attempting to start the service via service.msc "Windows could not start Function Discovery Resource Publication service on Local Computer error 0x80070005: Access is denied"
I am using kaspersky internet suite and disabled windows firewall. The problem is that turning the windows firewall off turns the pulic/home file/printer sharing and network discovery on.Turning on or off these settings starts the firewall.Disabling the firewall service permanently allows file sharing and network discovery for both public and home network, which cannot be turned off.I tried uninstalling kasperksky but nothing has changed.
After I installed my Belkin N150 wireless router, my desktop computer crashed. Windows 7 will not boot up.Anyone else had this problem and how did you solve it?
My new Belkin Wireless G router crashes ALWAYS if I try to connect from my Windows 7 Laptop to my Windows XP (home edition) desktop.I try to connect wireless from my Laptop (Windows 7) to my shared printer and shared folders on my wired Windows XP desktop. While entering \192.168.2.3 in my IExplorer of the Windows 7 Laptop: (IP address of XP desktop) immidiately crashes the router and disconnects both computers from the internet. Only solution is to reboot the router.Have tested this various time, but always the same result. Both computers have the same WORKGROUP name.
1x PC (Mine, and i'd like to the be the admin Win 7 Ultimate X64) with internet access via the router and connected to a NAS 2x PC's Win 7 32bit with internet access via the router and connected to a NAS 1x NAS to be shared by all 3 PC's 1x NAS 1x 4 port router
In simple terms the 2x Win 7 32bit PC's are for my children hence why I would like admin control of the computers. They will need a connection to the internet and share the same NAS. The Win 7 Ult X64 computer will also be connected to the NAS as well as the router for internet access.
All PC's and NAS to be connected with cable as opposed to wireless. whether this would be easy to set up? What cable would I need between the NAS and the PC's?
I have a new HP Pavillon g4 with Windows 7 Home Premium installed and connect to the internet via an external antenna to a hotspot nearby. I'm trying to create a Home Network or Ad-Hoc computer to computer network without a router and without cables, using my Windows 7 computer as the master, receiving the internet, and my second computer running on XP SP2 as a slave. I have tried ad-hoc setup, but my XP does not connect to the internet (the XP connects without problem when I insert the external antenna directly). Does anyone know if it is possible to share internet between Windows 7 and XP and how to go about it? I googled for hours and tried different setups, all failed. I have successfully installed the "Virtual Router Manager", it works well between Windows 7 computers or tablets, but not with XP.
Every now and then the internet will stop working on my PCs. I have 2 near me at all times and both will stop working, a wireless lappy and wired desky lol.It will come back in a moment or in a little while. I havent figured out if its the router or the cable modem.
I work in a small office and use a laptop with Windows 7. We use the same router and have wired internet. His computer is connected to a "Network 4" while mine is connected to the private wireless internet system we've set up. He can't connect to any other connections on his computer while all the other connections around our office is visible on my laptop.
For some reason my netgear router is not showing on the network page of 'my computer'.it used to show up as 'Netgear Router' and if i clicked on it it would ask for my login and then display my configuration setting etc on a browser page. If I click on a link I have setup on my browser, it navigates there as normal. Not a humungous issue, but although I have tried a system restore, it still does not show up as expected. Connectivity is fine, as per normal.
I do not have a manual for our router. I do not, therefore, know the username, password or the number to use as a web address, which is what Kim Komando is telling me I need. How can I secure the router so no one else can log on to my network?
I have two Windows 7, two win xp (4 in total) connected as file sharing network.1. hen I turn the router off and then on, the win xp computers see all the rest, but Windows 7 computers see no one, they still have the internet ability.2. If I turn on the Windows 7 computers first: the 1st sees nobody, the second sees the first but not the consecutive computers. No home group.
I have a Verizon router and I purchased a NetGear N900 wireless dual band usb adapter for my son's computer. I was going to test the N900. It is for college. The N900 will not connect. I do have three other laptops that do connect and work ok. The N900 has WPS but the Verizon router does not.So I have to use the SSID, 'wep' option, and the wep key. The N900 tries to connect and stops trying after about 20 seconds or so. The N900 varies from 4 to 5 green bars. N900 installation was followed and went smoothly and the new software version was used. We are using Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit on my son's computer.I also purchased the Western Digital My Net N750 router for college. I have no way to test everything at home. It does have WPS so at the college I hope everything works.
I have a home network connecting 4 computers, 2 print servers, and a media bridge to a Linksys wireless router. Pretty much the same setup from XP to Vista to Windows 7.
After installing Windows 7 x64, I am seeing a device under the category "Infrastructure (1)" on my Windows Network screen. It identifies itself as "WNR843Bv" - a Netgear router - which is definitely NOT a device on my network! Maybe it belongs to a neighbor, I can't verify this. Other than this - the network is functioning as expected.
I use WPA2 encryption and MAC Address filtering on my Linksys router, so I am (reasonably) confident that this device is not connected to my network. However, I am not comfortable with this.
Can anyone help me understand :
(1) What is an "Infrastructure (1) device?
(2) Why is it showing up on my Network screen in Windows 7?
I have a wired network that has the following connected:1) My Main PC (Quad Core) with all the Shared HDD's (Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit)2) My Wife's PC (HP Touchsmart) Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit3) WD TV LiveHub (Media Player)4) WD TV Live (Media Player)5) My Second PC (Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit)6) My Third PC (Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit)and occasionally my laptop which has Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and Ubuntu 10Often my ADSL connection drops and I have to restart my router to get it running.Once I do that, and My Main PC is on AND any other PC is on too, the network shares disappear. If I go to "Network" on any PC only the Media Servers are shown and if I go to the Media Players, no shares are shown. If I turn off all other PC's and THEN restart my main PC all shares appear again.I have been searching the Internet but haven't found anything that worked.
