My problem is that it My Maxtor ext 500g Drive worked fine with Vista but as soon as I Upgraded to Win 7 it doesn't. It is recognized and I can even open it but after about 10secs I get an error that "Win Explorer has stopped working, looking for a solution" the solution never comes and everything closes to a blank desktop.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI used to have one! It seems to have disappeared, and I run diagnostics, and shows that the driver is messed up. I uninstall old driver, replug the external Maxtor HD back in, it shows that it installed a new driver, and I have to reboot. I do that, and still no HD. This is what I get, any help would be awesome, I have tons of shows I taped on the drive!

I only just transferred the usb cable and now every time i tried to back up or save a file to the Maxtor one touch 4 plus, it gave a warning window that said it couldn't perform the function because the disk was damaged or corrupted. I have also checked the drive for any errors by scanning it for any problems but nothing has come up. I just now uninstalled the driver in case I could reinstall it but that is not working because its not recognizing that it was uninstalled. Please help me find another software for this. I also looked online for the software and the Seagate company offers this software for free however, it is only compatible with the Mac OS X systems and not for any windows systems.

I have windows 7 and office on my laptop and I want it on my desktop pc. There isn't close to 64gb of info on my laptop so it should be fine even though the hard drive says I have 160gb. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a USB external hard drive that I keep all my documents etc on (had it for years)I upgraded from Vista Home to & Home Premium then had to upgrade recently to Professional to run my Sage. Through all these upgrades my ext. drive ran fine. Occasionally the drvie letter would change if I had something else plugged into the USB, this was always easily corected in disk management by changing the drive path.The connection on the case packed up so I had to get the drive put into a new case, now when I plug it in the drive is assigned G instead of F, I tried to change the drive letter allocation in Disk Management but it won't let me as the program still thinks I have a second ext. hard drive which is labelled F. I suspect this has happened because when the usb connection broke the drive was disconnected suddenly instead of a proper eject.How do I get Disk Management to remove the inactive drive - i can't find any obvious way - eject, delete etc are all missing when I click on tools or tasks.

I didn't really care for Ubuntu so I decided to delete the partition it was on. That might have been a mistake. Well, now there's 87.68GB of free space on my hard disk that I can't use and I don't know how to add it back to my c: partition.
There was another post about this a couple years ago, but I don't understand the instructions and am not actually sure if it worked. Can someone explain how to do this, please? I'm not completely computer illiterate, but I'm not familiar with partitioning disks. It was just the one time with Ubuntu.
I have Win 7 home premium on an HP laptop with 4 usb ports. I have 2 Western Digital Elements 1.5 TB drives for backups. If I plug in one of the drives, Win assigns a drive letter, but if I add the second one it doesn't.
To troubleshoot, I've plugged each drive into every usb port on the laptop, and each port reads each drive alone, but if I plug in the second drive while the first is still in, it shoes up in devices but does not get a drive letter. I tried assigning a different drive letter to the device plugged in first, but Win still doesn't assign a letter to the second drive.
My laptop is Acer with Windows 7 home premium 64 bit OS. It contain only 1 single partition disk that is c drive only.Recently, i accidentally convert the c drive which contain OS into dynamic disk.After i restart the laptop, it shows the following: BootMgr is missing Please press Alt, Ctrl +del to restart Now, i not able to enter the window. View 8 Replies View RelatedBackground: I have a WinXP desktop machine with a hard drive that may have a virus/trojan/rootkit/etc. Normal scans on the WinXP machine with MSE or ThreatFire have not discovered the problem. But the best way to scan a drive is to remove it and treat it as a purely 'dummy' data drive plugged into a usb drive dock and run the scan from a clean machine. This way any infected programs and/or O.S. on the drive will have no control to mask or hide themselves. My other computer is an HP Windows 7 laptop. View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been noticing after re-installing Win 7 that I get random floppy drive seeks and the hard drive light flashes like crazy and then everything is fine again.I have Clamwin AV,Spyware Blaster and Spybot S&D installed,but that's it,no Windows Defender or Essentials AV.Any ideas what causes this? However I think something might have gone wrong when I give my external HDD a drive letter that was held by one of the flash card reader).I wrote "I think" because I am not really sure since I never wanted to use the internal card reader till today so I never noticed there was an issue. Anyway, the internal card reader does not show up even when I insert a card in the reader. Basically nothing happens. I have uninstalled the "USB Mass storage device" and it gets installed without any issue but the problem is still there: I can't see the reader. the INTERNAL flash card reader has a USB slot and when I insert a EXTERNAL flash drive, the EXTERNAL flash drive shows up.
