Oct 4, 2009I'm looking for suggestions on how I could improve the audio quality, mainly for music, that I can get out of my laptop (T61p). It's not that bad now, but I'm sure it could be better, especially since I already have some very nice earphones.
I know I could get an external sound card with a pcmica interface, but the problem is that is a dying interface that will most likely not be supported in the next laptop I get, and I'm hoping I could find something that could be transferred to the next laptop I will probably get in the next year or so.
My current laptop also has an express card slot. I'm not sure about the future of that interface either.
Would be grateful for any thoughts, suggestions.
Annoying Sound Randomly On Lenovo Laptop?
Jun 20, 2012I am running Windows 7, I actually searched through ALL the windows 7 sounds on my LAPTOP to identify the sound, and NADA! So what other type of file extension could play a sound? Perhaps I can search for it, then eradicate it. It would have to have a file extension of some sort, right?

The Device Manager shows a device that is not recognized. It is a "Mass Storage Controller" and the location is "PCI bus 21, device 0, function 2" and no other meaningful information whatsoever.
Can someone help with any information about this? What is it and what driver should I use to enable it (or not)? Etc.

Sep 12, 2011On my Lenovo W510 laptop I'm currently using the 14.1.1 PROSET drivers from Intel's website for my Centrino Ultimate 6300 wireless adapter. Lenovo just released new drivers on their web site with 14.02.0000. Going off of numbering the 14.1.1 drivers are obviously latest although I have seen that whatever drivers are made for Lenovo are always a little different (features and such). In this case is it better to go off of the laptop manufacturer's drivers (even though they are a lower number and seemingly older) or the wireless manufacturer's page (Intel).

(It says that the sound is playing, it's just that it isn't coming through the speakers.) I know that the drivers are updated, so if you're going to ask if my driver is updated, the answer to that is yes. At first, I had thought that it was only a problem with the driver, or the hard drive, but that's not it... I don't know what the problem is. I've tried looking for solutions online, but absolutely nothing worked.I don't want to be stuck with the generic "High Definition Audio Device" which will just mute the speakers at the most random times.

I've disabled it in device manager and I gained a steady 15-20 more in most of the applications.

I installed Windows 7 a couple of days ago on a new custom built pc but i cannot get sound.
In the bottom right it just says Digital Audio (S/PDIF) .. i have no speakers in my monitor so i bought some logitech ones, they are all plugged in right placees..
