Laptop Won't Auto-connect
Dec 17, 2009
I have a really annoying issue with my wireless network whereby on start-up or resume my lappy won't automatically connect to my wireless connection despite the fact that "automatically connect" is checked in properties and the wireless adapter is enabled.
There are currently 4 available wireless networks, 1 which is mine and 3 which must belong to neighbours. If I right-click on any of those other 3 the only option available is connect and it seems they can't be configured, the problem with this being that if I left-click them the "connect automatically" box is always checked. If I uncheck the box, the next time I left-click that connection the "connect automatically" box is checked again. I am wondering if this is causing a conflict whereby Windows 7 doesn't actually connect automatically to any of them as they are all checked...? The only way to connect is if I manually click "connect"...?

Okay, so I know how to make a wireless Ad-Hoc connection. My question is, is there any way for the machine hosting the Ad-Hoc connection to connect to it automatically on startup so other machines don't have to wait for the host machine to connect to its own Ad-Hoc connection?

I have a hidden network but I have it so it auto-connects. But the problem is that whenever I log in it doesn't auto-connect. So I go in the list of networks, click "Other Network" and type in my SSID. It says it's connecting but then it says there was a problem connecting. So I troubleshoot and it troubleshoots and when its done it says there is a problem with my wireless adapter or access point and it fixed it and I have internet.

I have a internet connection which needs user name and password to connect.I need to connect it automatically at a particular time and also get it disconnected. When I was in Win XP I used to use RASDIAL command.I would create a batch file with RASDIAL Broadband USERNAME PASSWORD command and then use a scheduler to execute it at the needed time. But that time I also connected my modem by USB port. Now I connect my modem through LAN cable and the same batch file is not working.

My computer has worked fine (relatively) since i built it in... 2007. Two weeks ago i stopped being able to use the wifi card on the computer. It kept getting an error saying it failed to start. Uninstalling the drivers/reinstalling/updating them didn't seem to do anything.Eventually I did a Windows repair, took the card out, uninstalled the drivers, put the card back in and it worked. The only side effect, is that my PC no longer remembers the password of the router. I have to double click my SSID each time and re-enter the password. Its getting kinda annoying. WLAN AutoConfig is running as an automatic start.
My computer is:
AMD: Athlon 64 X2 5200+ 2991 MHz
Mobo: Gigabyte M57SLI-S4 v.2
RAM: 4GB Mushkin DDR2 PC2-6400
OS: Win 7 64bit
VC: Geforce GTX 470
WiFI: Gigabyte GN-WP01GS PCI WLAN Card(Turbo)

I need to connect to a VPN in order to use my university's exchange email client.Does anybody know if I can define it to connect automatically when my system starts? As it is, I need to manually connect each time (which isn't that difficult, but I rather not having to do it).

everything works fine on my old PC running vista but when I installed my copy of Microsoft Office onto my new laptop running windows 7, home edition, outlook never remembers my saved corrections. I go through and set some auto correct options likepb - will open a pre formatted list in my mail. Then if i close outlook and open again it doesn't seem to remember what i last saved.I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Office several time, and tried some suggestions here on uninstalling Outlook totally, but i get the same problem. It's strange that my copy of Office works fine on 3 other computers running vista or XP but not windows 7

I have problems (hardware/software)when starting my laptop (Presario F700) AND after getting to my desktop. When I start my computer, there are three things that can happen:1) It will stay at the "Compaq" screen for a while (like three long minutes) then go to my desktop.2) It will go passed the "Compaq" screen and stay at a black screen with a blinking dash (again for about three minutes) then go to my desktop.3) Or it will go passed the "Compaq" screen, stay at the black screen with blinking dash but then it will eventually say "The Operating System was not found"This is the least of my worries though, when I get to my desktop, after about three minutes, it will automatically restart.I am able to stay on safe mode without it restarting.Another problem I am having is when I try to open a program like Notepad or Command prompt (and probably more) I get this message: "The item '***' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly"

Every input field that is displayed is immediatley filled with an endless stream of dashes -------- and I cannot stop it.
Even the Microsoft button immediately launches search and starts filling this with dashes. Excel starts and then immediately fills the first cell clicked with dashes - pages of them if I let it continue. I have Norton 360 which reports nothing untoward and have checked the keyboard to make sure the keys are not sticking (they are not) but it seems bizarre. I have tried everything and have managed to negotiate to restore - but (as ususal) restore just wastes your time going through the process and reporting that the restore hasn't worked 30-minutes later. Other odd things are happening too - restore only shows one restore point ands when I click to see more, I get a flash of other restore points available and immediately the screen changes to just show one restore point again.
I have taken the memory out and tried each of the two modules on it's own - this changes nothing. Have I got a virus or trojan? The last thing that has happened is random folders opening and closing...I have Win 7 32-bit Home Premium fully service packed to latest spec.

I bought a Asus U36J laptop back in April of last year and ever since then I have been beating around an issue that I dont seem to be able to resolve one way or the other. When ever the laptop is on battery and in battery saving mode it has my taskbar on autohide. If I turn that off, then it stays off right until it is put back into battery saving mode at which point it is "magically" ticked on again.
Is there no way to simply disable that feature, as its annoying me greatly. I know its tied into the battery saving desktop, and I want to keep the battery saving desktop but want a full taskbar all the time. I found a supposed fix to make that happen, and while it actually makes the taskbar appear all the time, it still is a bad hack as any windows I have open wont "attach" to the taskbar but attaches to the buttom of the screen.
So for the love of god is there no sane way for me to keep the battery saving desktop but get rid of the autohiding taskbar. Otherwise I know Asus most likely wont be my laptop of choice next time aroumd.

I have a Zoostorm 3.0021 laptop Notebook Computer MODEL: W76TH and I am trying to connect it via VGA to red/green/blue inputs on my Toshiba TV but I can't get my laptop screen to go on TV screen no matter what I do. I have adjusted the screen resolution and I have gone in to Display Panel and chose duplicate screen, but it just doesn't work. On my TV screen it just says 'No signal'.
i am so depressed with this now as I have wasted money on 3 cables now and it seems none work (mind you the first 2 were completely wrong cables)...but I really thought this was the one to work.

Just bought a new lap top HP Pavillion few weeks ago, the laptop found my wireless network straighaway and all ok for last couple of weeks.Just this week for no reason at all my laptop can't connect to the internet, I get a yellow fuzzy or a hazard sign over the signal icon, if I hover over it says connection strength excellent, I see my network, click connect, I wait, prompt for the diagnostic, then it just says "cannot connect to the internet" My old laptop is XP and has also lost the internet. The actual desktop PC has internet connection as it is hard wired from the blue ethernet. So I plugged the blue ethernet cable directly into the laptop it took a while but finally connected but after a short while it went again even though it was still physically connected. My next step was to power down the router and the cable modem, still no joy.I went to PC world and they suggested installing any updates, which I did (apart from the IE9), still no joy.

I just brought home a brand new Toshiba laptop running Win7 and I can't connect either wirelessly or with a cable. I have a home network with many other devices, including 2 other laptops, that are connected just fine. With the cable I get the dreaded "error 651" and wireless I get "unable to connect" Troubleshooting the latter I get "investigate the router or access point". Well, it's working for all other devices. I tried getting the laptop to connect using the hotspot on my iPhone and that was fine so it's not the hardware.

Well my Laptop is a inspiron n5110, its pretty new. THe problem i am having started on and off, Out of nowhere it would say that my computer has lost internet connectivity in the little wireless strength bar icon, then it would gain connectivity a couple seconds or minutes later. out of the 4 people who live here it is only my laptop... but now my computer can't connect to the network at all wirelessly.. at the moment im all cramp up connected to the router by ethernet cable since this is the only way i can get on the internet. The weird thing is its only this connection, when i go home to my real house the wireless is flawless. im a college student who is renting a house with room mates.
