On the right bottom of my screen is the msg: "Internet Protect Mode: Off.I know how to get the screen for this to show, but I'm not sure how I should mark off the settings; i.e. disable, enable, prompt. I'm afraid I'll chose the "wrong button".
View 1 RepliesWindows 7 recently updated to Adobe Reader X 10.1.1 from 10.0 and now, every time I try to open a pdf file, the screen flashes,changes from 1368x720 down to 640x320, reduces screen size and open a dialog box stating "There is a problem with your system configuration". It gives options to open in protected mode, protected mode disabled, or always open in protected mode.Now, let me also state that I have also installed the 64bit iFilter suggested by Adobe themselves and have looked for registry changes or missing file components, of which I can find none. I realize Adobe is not truly 64-bit compatible, however, it used to work fine and it will not roll back the driver to 10.0 where it worked flawlessly.I know that McAfee and iolo both can cause system conflicts with this program in Win 7 64 bit, but have never seen anything quite like this. I removed System Mechanic and AVG both, cleared the temp files and registry locations, uninstalled Adobe and re-installed. I also tried removing Silverlight and performing the same procedure, all to no avail.System is a Dell Inspiron i3 processor, 4GB of memory, Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Had zero issues until the update.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba Satellite A665 laptop, running Windows 7, 64 bit. Two weeks ago my Internet Explorer began running slowy, and then after a few days, the program would open but after about 30 seconds, would start clocking and give a Not Responding error message. It runs in Safe Mode just fine. I downloaded Firefox and experienced the same problem.
1) msconfig; Disabled add-ons - restart - problem remains
2) Malwarebytes - 0 problems were found
3) CCleaner - no help

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a new Dell XPS Ultrabook 13 with i7 processor. It worked fine for about three weeks, then all of a sudden it refuses to connect to the internet. I am still connected to my wifi network, but the network and sharing centre shows the connection as dropped between the hub and the internet. Troubleshooter offers no answers. I know other Windows7 users have experienced this and so I have ALREADY done the following: Tried accessing the internet in safe mode with networking. This works, so it is not a hardware issue. I can definitely access this web in this way. Rebooting my wireless router etc. I know this is not the issue though, as other devices such as my iPhone can still access the web through it (and the XPS, in safe mode)

Windows 7 64-bit Two nights ago I was able to get on the internet and shut down my computer and went to bed, the next day I was only able to connect to internet while in safe mode. This includes hardwiring into the router, and the modem while in normal mode. When connected to the router wirelessly it says I'm connected without internet, however I cannot even access the router through 192.168.1.1?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a 2 year old HP Pavilion dv6 on Windows 7, which has picked up a bit of an annoying problem recently. Every so often, the laptop just goes into standby - I will be browsing the internet or whatever and then it will just drop into standby. Once I boot it out of standby, it will usually just go to sleep again within 5 minutes.
To stop this cycle, I have to force shut it down.. I'd get it fixed in a store, but the problem doesn't always manifest itself. I can go a week without it happening and then not be able to use the laptop for a few days because it keeps playing up on me. A few possible reasons why this happens have been mentioned online:
- A problem with the power supply - which I think I can discount as it happens whether I'm on battery or plugged in.
- Overheating - possible since my CPU usually runs at 60-65 degrees, but it's run at that temperature and higher for months for some reason and that's never caused it gripe before.
- A problem with the power button
- A virus - but the free version of Avast says i'm clean
- A BIOS problem
- Something else entirely?
I am using Acer Travelmate 8204WLMi laptop running the latest RC build of Windows 7. The internet connection is lost on both LAN adapter and WLAN (3945ABG) adapter when laptop is restored from a 'sleep' mode. I have disabled 'Power Management' of each adapter via the Device Manager. I have updated to the latest set of updates.
Disabling and re-enabling LAN or WLAN adapter to restore connectivity does not work (as it does in Win-XP). I have tried to 'log off' and log back in but this does not work either. I have discovered that the only way to restore connectivity is to re-boot the laptop.
It would appear that there is an issue of the Windows 7 code to correctly manage the LAN/ WLAN adapters. Has anyone else come across this problem?

But when I tried to click on the little flag in the task bar it said it could not connect to windows server. I tried restarting my computer and thats when everything went crazy. The brightness automatically lowers, it looks like it is in classic mode, no sound, cannot use usb, nothing will open it shows it is trying but thats all. I dont know what I did or what happened. I tried to upgrade it to windows 7 ultimate but i am getting an error with that. If I buy the windows 8 upgrade would that work and fix the problems or would I need to reformat the hard drive and completely reinstall windows.

I've burned jpg images to a DVD+R for permanent backup with windows 7 drag & drop. I close the DVD burn session which I have read "finalizes" it but when I load the DVD I can still burn or delete files on it. If the files have the same name they are overwritten. I want to write protect the DVD. When I used Windows XP I used Roxio to drag & drop files to DVD & the disc had to be finalized so it could be read on other computers. This write protected the disc & when it was reload on any computer properties showed there was no room on the disc & it could not be written to & files could not be deleted.
Are there any way to make folders undeletable? Are there any software for that?

The only software I found till now which comes closest to my needs is Protected Folder, however you have to open the program each time and unlock the folder you want to use, then re lock it when ready, it's not so straightforward as I was imagining. Also I don't know if access will be blocked from other users on the network, once the folder is shared.
Is there a way to password protect a folder i.e. your pictures folder. For windows 7 ofc ^^
