Installing Windows XP 32 On A PC Running Windows 7 64

Jan 24, 2012

I have a computer up and running with six drives and Windows 7 64 bit. I need to do the following:

1) Delete Windows 7 from my current C drive (It's an SSD and it's running out of space, so I've bought a new one)

2) Install Windows 7 on the new and larger SSD and make it my new C drive.

3) Install Windows XP on the smaller older SSD which will be downgraded to a 3 G/s controller.

I don't want a dual boot setup, but to be able to select booting from the XP drive in the BIOS those very few times I will need to run Windows XP (I need it for some old Nikon film scanners that wont run under Windows 7).

Installing Windows 7, DVD Not Running?

Oct 22, 2012

I have the motherboard (ASrock 970 Extreme3) booting and the BIOS comes up and everything. I set the boot priority to my LG gh24 dvd drive. Then when I save and restart everything it comes up and says: Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key_. I put the Windows 7 CD and press a button it pauses for a moment and then just repeats the previous message. Any idea what I'm doing wrong. I haven't done this in like 3 years so I don't remember having to do it previously. The BIOS is detecting the new hard drive.

Installing And Running Windows 7 From An External HD?

Feb 1, 2012

I recently bought a new laptop and decided to run Ubuntu on it. I'm fairly content with the OS, after figuring out how it works. The only problem is, I'm having trouble getting my nVidia Optimus card to switch to 3d acceleration (can't get Bumblebee to run).I figured I might as well avoid all the issues with trying to run games via Ubuntu and simply dual boot Win7 as well. I'm facing a dillema though.Apperantly I'm unable to repartition my harddrive without formatting the entire thing. Obviously, I'd like to avoid having to reinstall everything.I was thinking of installing Win7 on an external HD and running it from there, my only question is, how will this effect performanceI have a Samsung 1TB FAT32 external HD lying around which draws power and data from a single USB2 slot (no seperate adapter). How effective will it be to install and run both windows 7 and graphically instense games from it?

Installing Windows 7 64 Bit On A Dell 8400 Running Out Of Time?

Sep 4, 2010

I have a Dell 8400 and a few questions about upgrading to Win 7 64 bit. (I am a complete NoOb when it comes to installing an OS).

First my specs are...

CPU Type
Intel Pentium 4 HT 630, 3000 MHz (15 x 200)
Instruction Setx86, x86-64, MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3
L1 Trace Cache12K Instructions

[Code]....

I will have 2GB of this RAM Thursday with another 2GB of the same RAM the following week or the week after that. Corsair Dominator DDR2 Ram Memory PC-6400 800 MHZ [URL] After the RAM I will be getting a new Graphics Card. Also I have a spare 650 watt PSU if needed.

I ran the Window upgrade advisor and the only things it flagged was (of course) that I only had 512MB of RAM and outlook express. It did say custom installation required, whatever that means.

1. My first question to everyone is, can my Dell even run Windows 7 64-bit?
I googled around and it seems possible.

2. My second question is can I install it with the 512MB of RAM I have now?

3. My last question is can I install this along side XP on my HD?

4. My third question is does anyone know of a good very detailed step by step Noob guide for installing it next to XP?

I have never installed an OS before and if it does not work I am screwed!

I do know it is better to do a fresh install and no I cannot by another HD right now, I know they are cheap but I will be scraping together all I have just for the RAM and Graphics card.

My problem is that, I really only have the time to do this over the long weekend and cannot wait for the RAM to get here.
The guy on e-bay is a clown and did not ship it when he was supposed to and it will not be here in time.

I just need it up and running and can add the RAM as it comes but I am under a serious time constraint and if I don't get this done now over the Memorial day weekend it will be a long time before I have enough time to do this.

The problem occurs for some program when installing or running.. In installation window the window is minimised as always and some option get hidden, like they cut off only slightly showing a portion of selection button.. Like when installing program there shows selection button like, NEXT to carry on installation and CANCEL button to stop installation. It happens like NEXT button partially showing and other selection button cut off outer of that minimised windows.. Same problem with apps which use by default minimised window. Some selection option cutoff.. Though there no option to make those apps maximised.

Complete Access To One PC Running Windows 7 From Another One That Is Also Running Windows 7

Oct 9, 2012

I am running into this issue of having complete access to one PC running windows 7 from another one that is also running windows 7. One of the PC's is a windows 7 pro 32 bit and the other is window 7 ultimate 64 bit. I have had them setup with public and dedicated folder sharing. But from time to time I find that a file I want to get off one or the other was not saved to a shared folder. I have been looking for a way to allow complete access from one PC to other one (going both directions). I use 2 PC all the times and it really depends on where I am in the house as to what one I am using as one is laptop and the other is a desktop. They are both on the same network. It is just one of the strange things that I have not been able to find a way to get complete file access without the use of software like Teamviewer or others like it.What I would like to do it just go to the network location in the windows explore to get the files I want from the other PC.

Two Desktops Running At Same Time / Background Programs Running

As I shutdown/restart my laptop, I notice it switches to a secondary desktop that has been running programs.A good example would be trying to open my Task Manager, I can Ctrl-Alt-Del and it will allow me to open Task Manager - however when I click on Task Manager, it opens on the Desktop running in the background. I can't even access the Desktop in the background, it only shows up as I'm shutting down - closing programs that I tried opening awhile ago.

Running XP In Partition On Windows 7?

Apr 14, 2012

I am trying to setup win xp in a partition I've set up in my new win 7 computer. Creating the partition was a snap. I don't seem to be able to run setup though for XP. I have the original disc, but it won't allow me to click on the setup option. I assume it see's the Win 7 OS and grays it out. I tried copying the disc to the partition, so I could launch from there, but I get the same response. What am I missing, or what do I need to do differently to make this work. I'm not sure if I can make this a dual launch boot option since Win 7 is already in place. Is it necessary to reboot into XP, as opposed to run it (concurrently) in its own partition?

I attempted to boot the system from the disc, but got the blue screen of death for my efforts.
