Required CD / DVD Drive Driver Is Missing During Install
Oct 24, 2009When I try to install Windows 7 on my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, I get to step number 4, but when I click install I get an error saying that a required CD/DVD drive driver is missing. I know that I have the most current drivers and that my DVD drive/driver is supposed to be supported by Windows 7.Is it possible that my installation DVD is messed up?

Oct 29, 2011I'm doing a new OS install, using my the same Windows 7 64 install disk as before. I do have new drives, but they are just newer versions of my old drives (which died) - and they are pretty standard HP slim drives.
For some reason, the OS install will not complete. It's saying that an optical drive driver is missing, and wants me to install it manually.
these drives did NOT come with any driver cd, nor is there a driver available on the HP support site. They must be plug&play.

Jul 29, 2010I'm trying to install Windows 7 64bit. After loading windows 7 setup from my dvd drive I get the error "Required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing." From doing a lot of research, it seems this error has nothing to do with my DVD drive but has to do with the SATA Controller Driver. So I try to load the 64bit drivers for the SATA controller and it finds them okay but when i try to install, it says something like "no new devices found". The SATA Driver(s) are the only it ever finds, except for the time I enabled Raid... Then those drivers showed up as well but with the exact same results.
From another forum I was directed to this microsoft page: [URL] and the resolution says: "To workaround this issue, disable AHCI mode for your disk controller in the system BIOS. Typically the controller has to be changed from AHCI mode to "IDE" or "ATA" mode. "
My motherboard is an Asus P5N-E nForce 650i SLI Chipset LGA775 FSB1333 DDR2 Mainboard. However, I can not find anyway to change the setting from AHCI mode to IDE or ATA. As far as I can tell, nothing in my bios allows me to change that setting... or at best it's unapparent.

I installed (clean install) on that PC Window Ultimate, retail bought, so with another (second) legit number. My question is: Do-I have the right to install (upgrade install) Seven (Family) - but I'd prefer 32 bit - on my portable with the first number, so the number from the preinstalled Seven (which I no more use). Would It Work? Would it be accepted by Microsoft Would I be able to use a 64bit number with a 32 bit Seven? And if it ever it is a validation problem, or it fails, would I be able to downgrade to my old Vista (without reinstalling all my application or so) I am a little confused with the difference between preinstalled licenses right and retail one.

My OEM copy has been used twice, so according to the activation servers, I shouldn't be allowed to do that because OEMs are supposed to be machine specific. Now, to do some explaining. My old computer completely and utterly died last year, so I was unable to uninstall Windows 7 from the system, So I think it still believes it's registered to that computer, which is no longer the case. It is, in fact, registered to this new one. But since the key has been used before. We've got a problem?

I plan on building a new desktop, and would like to use the new product key that comes with the disk for that.

I got to the point where Norton required me to install the product key which i did the pc then said it would shut down and restarted which it did less the e-drive. Apr 21, 2011I made the mistake of letting my sister-in-law use my computer (the one I use for work) to burn a CD. I thought she said burn a DVD, which is something I do all the time. However, apparently she downloaded a CD ripping program called CDEX (very legitimate -- doubtful of any viruses). In the process of ripping her CD to the desktop, the program froze up. The disc would not eject from the disc drive. So she called me over -- I couldn't get it to eject, either. I tried restarting the computer, but to no avail. I stuck a paperclip in the slot below the eject button and manually opened it -- but now my disc drive is gone. This is a new computer -- not even one year old yet. It's a Vostro 320 all-in-one desktop. It has Windows 7 and this is a DVD/RW drive. It is gone from the device manager completely. When I push the button to eject the disc drive, the light flashes green once, but never opens. If I manually open it and put a CD in there, nothing happens. It doesn't spin around like it normally does.

Oct 30, 2009i tried a bit of overclocking and it went fubar,had to reset cmos on my striker extreme to get it to boot it boot ups and my win 7 64bit and its fails.I was running 2 74 gb raptors in raid,with a 500 gb data drive.
So i booted from win 7 disc to do a repair,this shows my windows 7 installation in an unknown location..so tried loading raid drivers etc nothing worked.So thought i would bite the bullet and format,but im getting only 1 raptor showing up.The 2 raptors show up in bios but not in Windows 7 installation.Any ideas,ive also checked all cables,set bios to raid/sata/none still no luck in finding the drive.
Disk Drive Missing
Feb 1, 2009Would you know how to get my disk drive to start showing up and reading disk again? It stopped when I installed Windows 7.
I am guessing the Optiarc DVD is it. I went into properties and looked at its status and it gave me "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)"

Jan 15, 2009I have a dual boot system with WinXP and Windows 7 on the same drive, partitioned out. I also have a second drive which contains most of my data files.
For some reason, Windows 7 isn't seeing my XP partition, however it has no problems seeing my data drive. XP can also successfully see the new Windows 7 partition when I boot into XP.
Is there a reason why Windows 7 can't see my XP partition? Is there a way to fix this? Doing a search on this was quite hard. I kept getting all sorts of irrelevant results (most about full missing hds which isn't my problem).
Bootmgr Missing No Cd/DVD Drive
Nov 1, 2012Bootmgr missing error. Dell Inspiron 560. DVD drive won't read disk to reload. Downloaded disk to USB n it won't reload. Changed boot options thru f12 key to no avail. Also can't access command prompt or any recovery key.

Dec 20, 2009I just installed Win 7 on an old Compaq pc that had been running XP. The computer has two 160GB hard drives on it. When going through the installation process I formatted both drives and deleted any partitions that I found. There were more partitions than I expected but I deleted them all. Win 7 installed perfectly and is working fine except that the 2nd drive isn't showing up. After searching a bit online it seems a 100MB partition is created during installation. By deleting the partitions I may have caused the setup to use the entire 2nd drive for whatever is in that 100MB partition and now I can't access the drive from Windows.
Does any of this make sense? From what I have read it sounds like I may have to reinstall but I'd like a second opinion before I go do something like that.

Jul 29, 2011I have a Dell 1525 laptop and the other day I was updating it with Windows updates. My laptop didn't have SP1 yet so I installed that with some other updates and then my internet stopped working, even though it showed as connected. So I did a system restore to before the updates which fixed the internet. Then I installed all the updates except SP1 and the internet still worked. But when I tried to install SP1 (either in win update or with SP1 download) I get the error, "missing sqmapi.dll". This has happened to me before on a PC where I installed SP1 then did a system restore to uninstall it, then tried to install SP1 again, then got a similar error. So both times when uninstalling SP1 with system restore and trying to re-update SP1 has had the same consequences.
