View 2 Replies View RelatedIt was doing this once before, but this time there is no BSOD. My system is biostar TH55b hd mobo, Asus ATI 5450 HD Graphics, 4 gigs ram, and several hundred gigs oh hd space. The description of the issue is that my pc freezes daily without any specific messages. Wish I could give you a better desription. This is a fresh reinstall of the os. Also there isn't any bluescreen hence there's no dump file, atleast that I know of.

I have tried the automatic startup repair but it does not fix the problem. I have also gone through Bootsect.exe and Bootrec.exe commands and they have succesfully written new MBR's and Bootsectors yet the PC still restarts. I have had to /force the previous commands to run.
I have also tried Chkdsk /r but for some reason it just runs through very quickly and finds no errors.
Any ideas as the PC's also have the virtual XP setup.

View 9 Replies View Relatedi hope im posting in the right place. For the past 3 weeks my computer has had me so frustrated i dont know what to do. First off it started off just randomly powering off. Which got worse and worse. So we took it apart and made sure everything was clean and dust free etc. Now its not powering off as much but its freezing. Freezing alot. When it freezes you cant do anything. No cntl alt delete, you cant even move the mouse. Its like complete freeze. Also everytime it freezes when i try to restart the computer it hangs in bios about 5 times until finally after restarting it 5 more times i can make it back into windows. It keeps doing it and i have tried almost everything i can think of. I know its not overheating because i have been checking the tempurture of everything on the computer everyday. Everything is running super cool.

File: BootBCD

And I ran a Code: chkdsk c: /f /r followed by a Code: Bootrec /RebuildBcd , where it asked me, if I want to add the entry to the BCD store, and of course I answered yes Afterwards I rebooted the computer, but it came up with a blank screen. I then tried to restart the computer and it keeps coming up with a blank screen. I tried to repair using the Windows 7 - cd's repair, but with no succes. It found the Windows 7 Home Professionel, but when I tried to repair it, it says, that it could not find the OS (something like noOSInstalled). I then came into cmd again, and tried first with Code: BootRec , but it could not find the OS.Now I set it to run Code: chkdsk over the night, but what can I do, if I comes up with the blank screen again? Do I have to reinstall the computer, or are there other solutions?

I did the diskpart thing in command prompt:
vol 0= E dvd rom
vol 1= C 100mb partition (active)
vol 2= D 232gb partition
I had a problem with my windows 7 partition (I ran partition magic 8 on it and let it "fix" the drive, bad mistake and FYI it was a accident). Anyway following this the computer froze and I went to reboot. When I restarted, I got a currupt file system message and no boot.. I had another hard drive sitting aroung and I reinstalled 7 on this new drive. I then plugged in the original hard drive to try to copy files off of it and I got the message that the original drive file system was corrupt and "would you like to format it?" question.
I said no and backed out. I then took this drive and plugged it into a windows XP computer via external USB port and I was able to access files no problem. I could see the files and was able to transfer them to the new drive through sharing of the drives on my network. I think this is interesting (weird really) that Windows 7 wanted to format the drive yet Windows XP saw the files just fine and I was able to save them easily. This actually has happended twice now where Windows 7 says a drive is corrupt and can't be read, but windows XP sees it just fine.
I have a problem with my iPod touch. It is a new iPod touch and i had no problem with it for a long time then one day it just started to not work. every time i plug it in it comes up with a error message saying .It wont charge or connect to iTunes so i cannot sync any music.

The windows boot configuration data file does not contain a valid OS entry.
I'm trying to get a Toshiba satellite L300D to start Win-7. It gives an error message:
"An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data"
Not really sure what that means, but my guess is thats a file that it isn't finding. My pic isn't very clear, the Status is 0xc000000f, again not sure what that means. This machine has been running and well behaved for a long time.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI checked the forums and could not find my specific issue.
The other day, I successfully installed Windows 7 Ultimate (full version, clean install) on my primary "C" partition and everything worked. Now, I believe I have a corrupt OS. When I attempt to boot normally, I receive an "Error loading operating sytem" message. The Windows 7 installation CD is detected, and begins booting, but following the "loading Windows" screen no options are displayed.
Here is what I did to cause this issue:
-I had an old external drive not compatible with Windows 7, so I decided to try and install XP onto a secondary partition.
-In order to create this partition during the installation, I deleted my "E" partition which I had previously locked with BitLocker. I left my "C" partition (System Rese) and "D" partition (with Windows 7) in tact.
-I began installing Windows XP. Upon reboot, I received my first "Operating SYstem Not Deteced" error.
-I tried booting from my WIndows 7 CD to see what was going on, but following the boot from the CD, the installation program stpped running before any options were displayed. This occured after the "Starting windows" message was displayed.
-I tried booting from the Windows XP install CD. This CD boot properly. I deleted the partition I had attempted to install XP on.
-I tried booting normally, and "Operating SYstem Not Deteced"
-I tried booting from the WIndows 7 CD again and "Operating SYstem Not Deteced"
At this point, I am considering loading from the XP CD and deleting all partions with hopes for a fresh Windows 7 installation.
Anything else I should try before deleting my partitions?
also, each time i start the computer, there is the following message - error failed to load branding configuration -. couldn't find anything on the web. What could it be ?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire one. It came with XP and I have it dual booting into Windows 7 which is working well which I installed from a USB Drive as this model doesnt have a CD Drive.
In the main boot screen it says "Earlier version of Windows" For XP and "Windows 7" for windows 7. All was working well until yesterday...
Now I can't boot into "Earlier version of Windows" i.e. XP. It gives me the C:\windows\system32\config\system is missing or corrupt message. I can boot into Windows 7 fine but all of my work stuff is on the XP platform (I know I can access the files from "7" but I need to get it operational again).
Any ideas? Can I do a repair from the USB Drive?..I've tried a couple of things to boot from the USB Drive but to no avail. And I can't find the BOOT.INI file from XP (I think it gets moved to Windows 7's hidden boot partition when I installed it. I cant seem to access that partition either).
I am running Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate on two PCs on my home network. I went to use one yesterday and was presented with a black screen. I rebooted the PC hoping that would solve my issue and was presented with the following error message while trying to reboot:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
File: BOOTBCD
Status: 0xc000000d
Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data
I checked my other PC and saw that it had been updated with several Windows patches yesterday. I'm guessing that the broken PC had an issue installing or rebooting from one of the patches. I ran the repair utility on the windows 7 dvd as instructed by the error message. It was unable to find a previous installation of windows with an error box saying: The file or directory C:BootBCD is corrupt and unreadable please run Chkdsk utility.
I tried the auto repair anyway, which appears to be working until the end when it gives me the "The file or directory C:BootBCD is corrupt and unreadable please run Chkdsk utility" error again. Then it says it can't save the fixes and says it can't be repaired. When I check the details it says I need to "repair offline" and that it cannot find an OS installed.
In my searches for an answer, I read about rebuilding the BCD through the command prompt. I ran the following commands:
BOOTREC /FIXMBR - said it was successful
BOOTREC /FIXBOOT - said it was successful
BOOTREC /REBUILDBCD - failed saying The file or directory C:BootBCD is corrupt and unreadable please run Chkdsk utility
I ran chkdsk and got no errors. I only have one hard drive, but when I go to a command prompt (from the repair section on the Windows 7 Install disk) it defaults to D:. I checked C: and it appears to be making the reserved system space drive C:, which would explain why I can't find a windows install on it. Worst case, If I just go down the path of re-installing windows without formatting the drive, will it pickup my old settings?
Here is what system info I could get (from the BIOS startup diagnostics):
Main Processor: AMD Athalon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
Memory Testing: 2030592K +64M shared memory
Memory Information: DDR2 533 Dual Channel, 128 bit
CPU L2 cache size: 512K x 2
I'm getting this every time I boot up my computer. It happened after I had my computer on "sleep". When I woke up and tried to open my laptop, it shut off and showed me this:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your Windows installation disc an restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
File: BootBCD

It simply takes me to the same screen when I hold "F8". So I cannot get the "Repair your computer." Option. I do not have the windows installation disc. Also, all I can do is basically start up my computer and it takes me to that screen every time.
im getting that message upon startup. Im running windows 7.It requests for the windows recovery CD to be inserted, so when I put the CD in to boot I get a "windows is loading files" then a starting windows with the windows logo then just a black screen with a cursor, I left it like this several times for at least an hour an nothing happened.I can't press F8 to access safe mode etc, nothing will happen.Pressing F12 to boot from CD just does the same thing as putting the CD in normally.
