View 1 Repliesi often leave my pc on a couple of hours and turn the monitor off.
it has happened twice now that when i come back my intellimouse optical only operates when i put high pressure on it its also very rogh, dodgy, laggy whatever. one of the more weird glitches Ive seen.
anyone got an idea? it also happens sometimes that my keyboard light (saitek eclipse 2) turns off and on again.
Running Win 7 64 bit on a Dell laptop. Previously had an older MS wireless mouse that worked fine. Went to upgrade to IE 9, and the mouse quit working. After repeated tries at un-connecting/re-connecting the USB, restarting computer, all met with failure. The system still does not recognize the device in the USB port. Have tried other ports as well with same result.
Being an older wireless mouse, went and purchased a newer HP optical wireless mouse. No driver included to install (no software at all). Same results in each port tried (3 in total) as the previous mouse. Device not recognized and not installed. Plug and play is on per what I can find in the system. New batteries were tried for both devices. Placing the mouse and receiver in different distances between while hitting the 'connect' buttons did no change.
Verified the new mouse is on the compatibility list for Win 7 64bit. Tried running the troubleshooter but it takes me continuously to the device page telling me the device is not recognized and not installed. Tried a system restore to yesterday, before I did the IE 9 upgrade/install (via online). Noticed System Restore said 2 windows updates were done at the time I did the IE upgrade. Completed system restore - no change for either mouse after trying all the above again, with system restarts as well.
I custom built a PC today using an MSI motherboard. I started it up and checked the bios settings but changed nothing as the default settings were fine. I can use the mouse on the msi bios. I then exited bios and installed the OS windows 7. During the install I was unable to use my logitech optical usb mouse however the keyboard was fine.Windows installed successfully but the mouse still wont work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am presently using a Logitech Trackball mouse. It has a cable and is connected to one of my computer's USB 2 ports. I started using it when my cordless Trackball suddenly "died". It just froze in the middle of my monitor and every attempt to revive it failed. Googling for a solution only led me to see that I wasn't the only one experiencing this tragedy. The Logitech forum is literally full of complains concerning the Trackball.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell XPS 14z which is about 11 months old. I have Windows 7. I am having trouble with left-clicking.I first noticed the problem while working in AutoCAD. I suddenly stopped being able to use my left-click button at all. I hit ctrl+S to save so that I could reboot, hoping the button would resume functioning when I restarted. Strangely left-click immediately started working again. Initially I only had this problem in AutoCAD. The semester ended and I stopped using AutoCAD. I was assuming that there was a problem with that program and planned to reinstall before the next (this) semester of school. Then, I started experiencing left-click problems while browsing the internet, I use Chrome. I do tend to open a lot of tabs at a time when I am running a search, don't know if this is relevant. Left-click sometimes would randomly stop working, sometimes it would just lag - click..... wait.... action long after expected, sometimes it would randomly also start working again. Sometimes when using the left button to drag a scroll bar in chrome it would "stick" (the function would stay on, the button did not appear to be physically stuck and this happens with mouse or touchpad) and moving the cursor away from the scroll bar would navigate the page up and down. The non functional left-click problem would also occur in Windows, when I would say attempt to go into device manager to see what was up.***I should also mention that when the left-click on the touch pad stops working double tapping the touchpad also stops working.***I have tried connecting a wired optical mouse - same issue occurs with the external mouse, though sometimes either the left-click on the mouse or touchpad will work while the other doesn't, both or neither will work playing with the mouse click settings, faster and slower double click - no luck updating the mouse and touchpad drivers - they report that they are up to date rolling back the drivers uninstalling the mouse going back to a restore point before the problem I saw one post which suggested that the display driver caused a similar problem, I have updated my display drivers I saw a post responding to a similar problem but only in internet browser, one reply suggested reregistering the dll for the mouse in IE. I tried this, didn't work - is there a dll which would address my problems? This seems like a hardware issue to me because both the touchpad and external mouse have the same problem? Agree/Disagree? I can do a system recovery or reformat if necessary, just looking for a way to avoid that if possible. I did manage to limp through backing everything up.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIt seems as though my two optical dvd-rom & dvd-ram drives are working only intermittently, since loading windows 7 64 ultimate from vista 64 ultimate.
While there are many drivers that I have saved as downloads plus those that can be found online there are drivers that are only available via disk, so having the optical drives consistently function properly is of the utmost importance.
Anyone with any suggestions are solutions please let us all know your thoughts.
I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop which is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.I don't know how long it has been since the DVD drive stop functioning. Whenever I insert a factory DVD,CD, or even custom/ blanks my drive does not recognize the inserted device. For some reason, which I cant understand, the drive itself clocks, but the OS isn't recognizing anything. When I checked the drivers, it said they were up to date.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy cd/dvd/bluray read/write drive on my laptop suddenly disappeared. All "my Computer" shows is my C: drive, whereas I used to have a D: drive. I was uninstalling a few programs before it happened, one of which was Daemon ProTools, which I suspect to be the culprit.
I read that the program TestDisk might be able to help. I ran it but only my hard drive shows up in the program too. When I insert a disk, I can hear the drive reading it, so I know it didn't become disconnected.
I presently have a 6 year old Dell X300 running XP, it has been a good machine but is getting 'tired' and I am looking at getting something new. The type of machines I am looking at like a HP Pavilion dm1 or a Lenovo Thinkpad X100/ 120 (new) running windows 7 of course. They do not come up a optical drive. So my question is what happens in the case of a HD failure? With the X300 I have reloaded windows on to the new HD using the CD drive and recovery disks provided. But in 2011 what is the way of being prepared for a HD failure with machines that have no optical drive and no windows 7 supplied reinstallation cds/dvds?Is there way of doing it thru a USB flask drive? is that the answer?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI know quite a bit about computers, and this is my custom build. I upgraded my mobo/cpu/ram in June, but my budget ran short of getting an optical which used SATA. yesterday was my birthday and I was able to purchase myself a new optical drive. The problem is. Last night I opened my case, put it in, power and data cables and then my computer won't boot correctly. This also happened when I first upgraded, but the problem isn't being solved this time. My keyboard only lights up when I flip the PSU power switch on the back. When I boot up I get no lights on my keyboard, my monitor light stays orange, all fans, etc turn on inside the case. I tried unplugging the new drive and starting it, with it's previous configuration, but that will not work. I have tried spamming the key to get into the BIOS, which is what worked in June when I was getting no video.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows 7, Enterprise, 32-bit OS. It's Dell E5400 notebook. My machine for sometime was a part of a domain. Now I have changed from Domain to Work group. I don't know what went wrong, but I cannot access neither optical drive nor pen drive at usb. I went for take ownership at security tab at their properties. But there was not security tab there. I formatted my pen drive with NTFS file system and found security tab. But no use. I cannot take ownership. I am getting these errors : "an error occurred while applying security information to: :F" and "access is denied" I went in safe mode. Everything was accessible there. From safe mode, I tried to give permission to "administrators" including my user account, but same error occurred.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy friend has an HP Pavilion DV6 Entertainment Notebook with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit installed. It's only about 3 months old. I rebuilt the unit with a fresh copy of Win 7 HP 64bit as I did not want all the bloat-ware that came with the machine. The issue is that the unit is unable to see the optical drive (no optical drive icon). In the device manager, there is an exclamation mark next to the optical drive. It was working originally. Windows 7 normall takes care of the drivers for this drive doesn't it? Is the optical drive faulty. I've tried un-installing and re-installing but still hasn't corrected itself.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI did some work on my system yesterday and I removed my DVD/RW drive along with some cable management. Now that you can buy alot of software online and install it without the need for an optical drive, is one even needed anymore?
I have an external DVD/RW (USB2) that I occasionally use with my netbook. Can I use that to install Windows and other software that I still have a disk for (3 or 4 programs)? I'll also use it to burn ISO's (Linux) should I need to.
Does anyone know if it is possible to boot from an external USB optical drive?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows 7 enterprise 64 bit pc and an Onkyo receiver. I used to have them linked with an aux cable for music. But since I had enough of the bad sound quality I bought an optical cable and connected it. Now I have the problem that my subwoofer gives a lot of less sound then with the aux cable with the exact same settings and music. Also my pc recognises the optical cable as an HDMI cable and I don't think this is right. I can't change any settings either in the sound.
Pc Wizard told me I have this onboard sound card: ASRock SB600 High Definition Audio Controller Pine Technology HD48x0 audio
I was using a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500, which has worked flawlessly for me until now, when it suddenly stopped working. I was simply watching a video embedded in a webpage when it suddenly stopped late on the night of October 3rd (a few hours ago). I've downloaded or installed nothing. The mouse is in use 18 inches from the tower. It's plugged directly into the tower. Thinking I would reinstall the device driver I uninstalled it, but now Windows won't recognize my mouse at all.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a totally new problem with my MS Intellimouse Optical. I have used this for some time (98, ME, XP) with no problems. I now have a new system - Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I have downloaded and installed the latest Intellipoint software (7) from Microsoft, and installed the Mouse. But...
- The Mouse is recognised not as an Intellimouse Optical, but an Intellimouse Web
- I cannot therefore change the side button settings on the mouse (via Control Panel>Mouse) from the default "Forward" and "Back", or the centre button either. This is annoying. I have uninstalled and reinstalled a number of times, to no avail.
(a) How to get Windows 7 to recognise my mouse as the proper type (Device Manager etc)....or
(b) How to hack the settings (XML / Registry / whatever) to change the default option, so the mouse does what I want it to without trying to change the buttons via the Control Panel.
I know how to disable thumbnails system wide and this is not what I want to do.
The problem my system is having is when I place a disc such as an SVCD in the drive and want to copy one of the files. When I go into the folder with the videos, Windows tries to make thumbnails of all the files or at least it tries to gather information on them. The problem is that since it's an optical disc, there is only one laser, so there is a very long explorer.exe freeze while it tries to do so. I guess it is reading a little of each file at a time and trying for all of them at once.
Is there a tweak or a setting I can change without affecting videos stored on the HDDs?
I can't get my pc to output 5.1 audio through my spdif. My ht shows what is coming in, sound wise. I get 5.1 from my dvr, but not my pc. I'm running on board sound and video, my video card died. I have an Asus m4a78-em mobo. realtek hd.
