Oct 25, 2012Is there a way to stop internet explorer or any browser from opening up by itself...? New computer is launching internet explorer on its own and multiple windows of the MSN homepage when I do attempt to browse. Is this problem caused by a virus, or a defect in the operating system? I have not downloaded any programs other than the manufacturers Windows Office., and my setting are still the "defaults"

Apr 3, 2010This has been a pet peeve of mine on Win7 ever since I upgraded months ago.
I'm real big on using Windows Explorer to navigate around my drives, looking at files, photos, movies, whatever. There are two things that the folder list, on the left side of the screen, does differently from it's XP predecessor that bug me:
1) It doesn't auto-expand a folder when I click on it. I have to double-click. Years upon years of doing things one way, and they suddenly change it.
2) This is the one I'm posting about... As I'm browsing down the list on the left, burrowing into sub-folder after sub-folder using the arrows.. right as I'm about to click on a folder that I want to view.. Suddenly the list will SNAP back to the top of the page as if it still thinks I want to be looking at whatever other folder I used to be in (usually the default Libraries folder). So I'll sit there and flip my mouse wheel a few times to get back to where I was.. and it'll SNAP BACK TO THE TOP AGAIN. It also happens when I've selected a particular folder, but I'm trying to navigate to one of the many sub-folders. It'll SNAP back up without warning, putting the root folder that I've selected at the very bottom of the screen, forcing me to scroll down. Again. Also happens when I'm trying to use Explorer to open a file from inside of a program.. File>Open, search, scroll, SNAP, scroll, SNAP, scroll, STOP IT, scroll, there it is. Frankly, it's pissing me off.
If there's one thing that bugs me the most about computers these days, it's when they try to do something "helpful" that I honestly don't want it to do. I know better than Windows what I'm trying to do when I'm using this computer. I am not the AOL-using end user that doesn't know what he's doing.. Technical Support? Yeah, been there, done that.. now I train tech support.. believe me, I know what I'm doing.
Is there some option somewhere to tell Windows to leave Explorer the hell alone when I'm browsing my drives? Get it to play the way I want it to play?
How Does One Stop Shortcut Creation In Windows Explorer
Dec 30, 2009I noticed a really annoying "feature" in Windows 7. When you click the folder icon in the navigation area of Windows Explorer (at the top - next to the three arrows), sometimes you get the actual path (I want that to be the default, but since Vista it's not) and sometimes you get a shortcut created in the folder you're in. I never want that behavior. How can I stop it from creating a shortcut (I otherwise WANT to create shortcuts, but never that way.) I want to control the text in the navigation window to ALWAYS show the real path (C:My Games), for example, instead of some useless representation (Computer > Local Disk ( C: ) > My Games), which is the current default.

Like, if I have a folder open with quite a few files in it and the file I want to double click to open is on the third row I'll go to double click but with the first click Explorer has scrolled along and the second click lands on a completely different file.

It's not printer specific, since this happens before you have the option to select a printer (and he has several, one local printer and a few network printers). I've tried running the troubleshooting tool, but all that does is restart the print spooler, which doesn't stop the problem.

Feb 19, 2012I've a wired (ADSL) broadband connection, which is connected to my main comp(runs on W7, W8) via an Ethernet. I've second computer(runs on xp) and is connected to my main computer via another Ethernet.The internet sharing ran fine for couple years till on a normal day it stopped just like that. I tried everything to make the sharing whole again but now it's been 6 months and I've pretty much given up. Second comp was formatted with fresh OS many times. On my main comp tried through W7 and W8 differently with different settings. I then followed dozens of tutorial which appeared on google's search. Still no success. I even tried setting up VPN between these two computers. On second comp, in control panel it says connected to broadband from main computer but in reality no internet app(browser, torrent client etc) find the internet. Other stuff such as file, printer sharing, lan based apps like multiplayer games are working fine.

Nov 29, 2011Got a problem with IE. I get a window saying that IE has a problem and gives an option to let the internet find a solution. This does not seem to help any. I can get out of it and keep going , but the same window will keep reappearing.

The problem is that barely works and the tab ends up closing completely or the whole browser freezes. Apr 13, 2012I have an issue I've never been faced with. Have a coumputer running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. There is no internet explorer icon in the start menu or anywhere else. I installed IE9 and rebooted the machine, still no icons. I looked in prorgram files and program files (x86) and each have a folder for internet explorer.....but neither have a exe file. I went into control panel and clicked on programs and features and then turn windows features on and off. IE9 is listed there. I removed the check and applied. It goes through the motions of uninstalling but when it's done it says it could not remove it all. I rebooted but when I went back in IE9 was still listed and checked. I tried to uninstall it with Revo Uninstaller Pro.......but it does not show IE9 as being installed
