How To Remove Secondary Hdd From Windows 7 Pro Computer
May 12, 2012
I have a windows 7 Pro OS running which was loaded with one HDD attached. Windows was running fine. I installed a secondary HDD to allow some backup; it was able to be installed, fully formated and was healthy. I tried to backup but was told by windows it was not large enough so I uninstalled by accessing device manager from inside computer management and clicking uninstall and confirming device removal. There was then, no visible indication that the secondary drive was installed. I shut down and physically removed the secondary drive and tried to reboot but all I could get was "A disk read error occurred. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". So I reconnected the drive and it boots fine. My question is, what do I need to do to be able to disconnect the secondary drive without getting that error?

I installed windows 7 on my computer that has two hard drives and I tried to remove the secondary drive ( it was used as storage) when I removed the second drive I was then unable to restart my computer. I tried to repair start up from the install disk (3 times) it did not work. when I plug the second drive I am able to start up again. I would like to remove the storage drive and replace with a larger. I bought a wireless seagate 2tb free agent goflex hard drive and wanted to put the 2 tb hard drive into the computer and take my 1 tb drive from the computer and use it in the wireless system.

Using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. W/ASUS P7P55D Deluxe board. Very stable and non buggy. Computer was running great with multiple drives. I substituted one of my 1TB drives with a brand new Seagate 3 TB drive. With the new drive hooked up, the computer will not boot and gives a message that there is no hard drive detected, put media in and hit the key. (something to that effect).
If I enter the bios in the condition, it shows all the drives in their correct order and the boot sequence is the first hard drive, CD, etc. It has detected the new drive as drive #3. But it will not boot. But, if I disconnect the new drive (power and SATA connector), the compute will boot up fine. I have checked all the connectors ad they seem fine. Is there something about the sequence in which the SATA connectors have to be connected?

I have a laptop computer that indicates it is part of a homegroup. I would like to leave the homegroup but I get the error message "Windows couldn't remove your computer from the homegroup." The homegroup was started on my desktop and I changed the password. I expected the laptop to detect that the password had been changed but it didn't. So I tried to leave the homegroup to rejoin with the new password but I'm not allowed to leave.

My computer originally came with Vista. I began to have issues with navigating in "My Computer", as it would often freeze and make it nearly impossible to use at times. I received a free upgrade to Windows 7, which I had hoped would solve my issues. It did not, unfortunately. Is there any way that I could remove all the Vista files from my computer

I reformatted my comptuer about...2 months ago roughly, which i would think would reset the computers setting so i wouldn't be in a home group but reguardless i can't leave the homegroup that i'm in. i can't view homegorup password which makes me belive i'm not actually -IN- a homegroup but my computer THINKS it is. i've tried deleting the idstore.sst file and replaced it with the trouble shoot thingy but that didn't work.. If there is a way to completely reset the HG feature that would be great, or replace a file to kick em out of the home group or something.

So basically, a couple days ago, I installed a new ASUS Mobo, Intel CPU and Vengence RAM. But when I tried to boot into Windows 7, it would act like it was loading just fine, and then get a BSOD so quick that I couldn't read it, and fail to boot (I do not have an OEM copy of Windows). With not many options, I decided to reinstall Windows to fix my problem. And in that install screen, it listed all of my HDDs, without letters. I was like "uh-oh, which one is it?" So, I pick one, and it's the wrong one. But, instead of removing Windows from what was my D drive and now is my C drive, I'd like to just remove Windows 7 (the still corrupted one) from my now D drive. Is that making any sense? lol So anyway, I know that you can't just "uninstall windows", and I've read about just deleting the file folders... but that I have to give myself permissions to do it. Of course, I can't seem to do that. I have several to choose from, including "trustedinstaller" "creatorowner" "System" "Administrators" nothing seems to work. They even have full access and permission, and when I try to delete the Windows folder, it says "you must have permission to continue" I click okay, it continues, and then says it can't delete the folder. When I try to give permission to one of those names, it denies access for the Windows folder.Oh, also, formatting is really out of the question, as this D drive has all my precious files on it that I can't lose. But, I do have enough space to maybe partition it, copy it all over, and then format the windows partition?

I am unable to use the Windows 7 image backup program because it doesn't see my second internal hard drive. I can see the drive in disk management. ( it shows up as SDATA1 D drive) and has plenty of room left 400 gigs out of 700 gigs.

I recently baught a Clevo Metabox P170EM laptop (the Australian version, i think the US version is by Sager), and it has a 128gb SSD Crucial M4 and a secondary 750gb HDD. I am not actually sure what kind of harddrive it is, all I know is that it is 750gb 7200rpm.I baught the laptop without an OS, as I had a Windows 7 disk already, and I had to go into drive management to format the secondary HDD. That all worked fine, I got it up and running, and was copying data across for a day. I also installed a couple of games (Crysis 1 &2, Dragon Age Origins if it matters) and played them from the secondary drive without a hassle. While playing, I got 122 Windows Updates which required a restart. So I let them install while I worked on clearing up my old laptop.Next time I booted the new one up, all of the icons for the previous games were blank and the HDD was unavailable. It doesn't show up in My Computer or Disk Management or even the BIOS (is that normal?)It also seemingly uninstalled some of my drivers - my nvidia GTX 670M wasn't recognised til I reinstalled the driver from the CD. I tried reinstalling every driver but no luck for the HDD.

I am using LG DVD ROM on my desktop computer. Unfortunately Now there are some problem with it.too large to explain here hardware problem. But the real problem arising at start up of windows 7. In normal cases as i press CPU button to start computer light on DVD ROM glow for 5 times , a beep sound and after that there is screen asking for which OS you wan to use(Xubuntu 11.04,windows 7).But if that light glow unexpected way then different start up screen appear. A white screen appear with large word CONSISTENT with on it. I think this is due to problem of DVD ROM. If i remove that then this issue should solved. So finally the thing i want to ask that is Does it require to make any change in setting of BIOS or computer to remove DVD ROM if no then i am going to unplug it. I just want to remove this from CPU so that it start up properly. My plan is to remove all cables inserted in DVD ROM and leave it there as it is(don't open bolts). As i have seen there are two cables that connects computer to DVD ROM i will unplug both of them.

I just built this computer a couple of months ago, yesterday I turned on my computer in the morning, and it ran fine, did my usual morning website raid on soccer etc, turned it off went out to do some errands, came back and turned it on and it kept hanging on the "Windows Loading" screen, read around about a couple of things it could be, i think I narrowed it down to my secondard hard drive (WD 500G Caviar Blue) which i use for storage and downloads, all my games and OS are installed on my solid state.
So whenever my secondary hard drive is plugged in, my comp hangs on "Windows Loading". If i unplug it, it loads up windows quick and easy like always. I turned on hot swap, and if i plugged in my HDD after my computer was already loading into windows, it would be fine than once it recognized it, it would start crashing my windows explorer etc constantly. I tried switching SATA ports, now it goes into windows with the hard drive plugged into another SATA port, the HDD is recoginzed in Disk Management, and is also recognized in device manager, but I cant access it.
These are my specs.

I currently have a standard computer setup with a windows 7 operating system installed. What I want to do is dual boot with Windows 7 as my primary os but using an esata cable connect the hard drive from my laptop to the computer and have this as a secondary boot option. The laptop hard drive has a full install of vista on it. Is this possible, every time I think about doing it I worry about the drivers on the laptop hdd and how those will react to my main computers hardware as obviously the laptop hardrive is setup to look at the laptop hardware.

I have an SSD drive mounted as a secondary master on my motherboard that has lost performance. I did have some things on the drive that I ended up deleting because load times were painfully long. I did not format the drive using the format options in Windows as I know this further degrades performance for SSDs, but there is nothing on the drive at all right now.
My question is, is there a way to secure erase the drive while still inside Windows? All the info I've found regarding secure erasing a drive has to to with having to boot the computer with some disc (insert title), unplugging the sata cable to the drive and plugging it back in, running said program, and erasing the drive. I understand this if the drive is the Primary Master and Windows is to be installed on the drive, but this is not the case for me.
Is there a way to do this inside Windows since its a secondary drive, meaning Windows is on a completely different drive, or is there a program or something for SSDs where you can restore performance inside Windows.

I have an Asus Striker Extreme motherboard. Since I have a PS3 but access to only one ethernet port, I've bridged my two motherboard ethernet adapters and plugged my PS3 into my computer so they can share the connection.I'd like to know if it's at all possible to configure Windows somehow to prevent it from going to sleep while there's any activity over the network bridge. Obviously I prefer to keep Windows' power saver scheme intact or I'd just disable sleeping entirely. However I don't want to have to reach over to the computer and bumping the mouse every ten minutes as I'm playing to prevent it from sleeping and cutting off my PS3's network connection.

Steam recently messed up on me last week. Now, I have to wait around five minutes to log in. If I click on anything while logging in, Steam will crash. The same thing happens while launching a game. I've looked all over and have found several ways to fix it, but none of them work. People tell me "Well don't click on anything and it wont crash and you'll be able to log in or play your game." That isn't the case. It never did that before, there is no reason it should do it now. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Steam, that did not fix the problem. I know most of the time when you uninstall something, it doesn't completely get rid of every file that it created or it installed. Most of the time, it just gets rid of the files that it installed in "Program Files" and/or "Program Files x86" and I want to erase everything, so I can try to do a clean installation of Steam. I'm talking about if there is any files left in my Registry or Appdata folder, I want them removed. So does anybody know of files that stay on your computer after it uninstalls? I already deleted a Valve folder that stayed in my Registry after uninstall. It was located at HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareValve

i have recently landed a job where i will be trouble shooting windows systems. this has brought me to realize hey i have no idea how to find a remove viruses without reformatting the computer. nor do i know how to check a file to see if it was safe or not, even if i opened it in a virtual pc or sandbox.currently i have no money, so going to school for a computer science education is not in my near future, but i have access to books and internet resources that i can learn on my own from. so what i need help with is where should i start. can anyone give some advice of how to go from a user that knows how to download drivers for your video card and replace broken hard drives to someone that can find viruses you never knew you had. what should i learn first so i am not watching Internet lectures that are above my head thus i don't get much from them.
