View 3 Replies View RelatedWe just bought a HP Dv4 with Windows Vista Home Premium with the option to upgrade to Windows 7. We choose Windows 7 Professional and upgraded the notebook. View 6 Replies View RelatedI am trying to upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium and I am getting an error saying the installation cannot continue because Kaspersky anti-virus is stopping the process. It asks me to look for it in the Control Panel and uninstall it.
Now, I would be happy to do so, but as far as I know, I have never installed Kaspersky AV, nor does it appear in the programs to uninstall. I have seen that there are a few people around who have had this problem, but I have seen to resolution to it, other than suggesting that a clean install be done. Obviously I can do that, but I really want to avoid it. I have too much stuff I'd have to re-install.
I have tried disabling other virus programs (as far as I know, I only have one provided by my ISP). I disabled Windows Defender. I also banged my head against a wall.
Anyone seen this? Why would it think a program is there, when it is not.

If i disable firewall and kaspersky I can get an open port, but once I turn them on utorrent slows down indicating the port is not open. I have included utorrent as allowed in widows firewall but same problem. Has anyone had same prob or got some advice on what I should try?

On Windows on the other hand you do need protection.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just run a virus scan and it found 4 files called NotAVirus.adware although I did notice it ended .win32 (this could be to deter people from removing it?). I decided to just run the recommended setting of deleting them and then automatically run a clean up afterwards. I attempted to access my internet using Netgear wireless smart wizard and it said it was unable to run the task, I attempted to connect through my network and sharing center and it said the page file was missing then windows posted a bad image message. My computer is pretty new (about 3 months). I've restarted and everything seems to be fine now. A cache error?

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I uninstall Kaspersky Internet Security 2010, my gadgets go corrupt (e.g. I can only see a black box with the clock gadget, I can only see an info icon with the weather gadget, I can't see the calendar even if it is on my desktop before uninstalling KIS 2010) and TuneUp Utilities 2010 also gets corrupt because I can't access the Start Center and I can't open WMP 12 because it's corrupted too. So I have to do a System Restore to restore the corrupt stuff and restore KIS 2010 as well but I want to switch to Avira and I can't switch to Avira because of this.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed Win 7RC 32 onto a 160 GB hard disk which I partitioned. I allocated about 25 GB to C: system, and formatted the rest on to a D: drive for data. I've found that this may have been a mistake, as getting program installations to default over to D: are problematic (and not recommended by Microsoft, as per some previous threads I've read here).
And so I am running out of C space, and have several programs "manually" installed over to D. Quite frankly this is a pain, and I am about ready to throw in the towel and just try to extend the C drive. But maybe there is a way to avoid?
My question is this: what's my best approach to correct all this? Specifically, I'd like (if it is possible) for all my libraries/directories to default to D: so that I can readily reinstall Windows 7 (or downgrade) the C: System drive should it become necessary. This was my original goal and hope. I was able to have this with XP, although that was some time ago and I forgot the steps.
Anyone have an good suggestions for me, or should I just extend C: and give up this idea?
I have made a sofware (exe) using Borland c++ builder 6.0 under windows XP. It seems that the program do not run anymore under windows 7.0.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't know whether the Windows 7 forums are the right place for this question, but I hope someone can redirect me.
I have about 150 DVDs which back up my photographs. They were burned between 2003 and early 2009 in Win XP Pro x86, using Nero v.5. They were burned as data discs, not photo discs. The files are almost all in TIF, PSD or Camera Raw format.
I can read them (i.e. open them in Photoshop) in my XP computer. I can read them in Windows 7 x86 in a VMWare virtual machine. But I can't read them in Windows 7 x64.
The drive is a Pioneer DVR-216DBK, and I've installed the latest firmware. It isn't malfunctioning: I can install programs from DVDs/CDs, and I can write DVDs/CDs.
Searching on-line I found a program named Iso Burner, from which I can slowly and laboriously 'run' individual files (i.e. open them in PS), but I need to be able to see the contents in Bridge.
Can I do this if I:
a) buy a DVD drive that supports older formats, or
b) move the DVD drive that wrote the discs to my Windows 7 machine, or
c) download drivers from....?, or
d) buy the latest version of Nero (which I hoped to avoid; I hardly use DVDs for backup any more)

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn Windows XP, if you try to update a driver and the OS can't find all of the driver files it will tell you which file is missing, and then give you the option to select the folder the file might be in.In Windows 7, if you try to update a driver and the OS can't find all of the driver files it halts with the message "The system cannot find the file specified" and the only option you get is to close the window.I was wondering if there is any to make Windows 7 work more like Windows XP in this regard. Perhaps a registry hack or some sort of modification? Basically I am looking for a way to make Windows 7 look for missing driver files instead of just giving up.
