how to move the prefetch location on Windows 7 from C:Windowsprefetch to another location or drive? I'm thinking to relocate all write activity from C: to the ramdisk. So far I only found the prefetch, temp and installed application that writes to drive C. Anyone can give me complete list that write to drive C?

My Prefetch Data is being deleted and I don't know what is doing it and it's getting very annoying. Tuneup is telling me it is being deleted but from what I found on Google tuneup does not actually delete it the only programs that have been known to delete it are CCleaner and Kaspersky and I only have Kaspersky and that only deletes the Prefetch Data when asked to which I have never done.

Before I reg'd I was asking purging perfetch files, I saw posts saing it was ok but did not speed up your pc. Using a registry clean up program would however, I used one once and it caused issues with programs connected to plaing TW08 (OL) and I was forced to reformat. The good reviews I saw came from those running Windows 7 32bit and I'm running Windows 7 64bit coukd that have been the difference.

My questions revolve around the location and size of Library folders. My root drive is an Intel SSD of 160 GB. My plan is to load program files only onto the C: drive and have all data and seldom used by useful programs on the 1 TB D: harddrive. My questions are, 1. Is there a way to change the default location of the Library folders to a drive other than C:? 2. Can the Library folders, or additional Library folders be located on the D drive? 3. If I have to leave the Library folders on the C: drive, I am concerned about the size. When I do a properties check on the folders listed under libraries, is the size given the size of the Library folder on C:, or the size of the folder actually holding the files?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using the method suggested in the Windows 7 Inside and Out book to relocate my user files. All seemed to be fine until I attempt to relocate the 'public music, public pictures, and others' files. The 'location' tab of properties of each public folder will not allow/accept changes to the files address.
Is there something different about the 'public' I need to be aware of?
I was trying to relocate some of my personal data folders in my User Profile folder (My Music, My Videos, My Pictures). I right clicked on the folder, selected "Properties" and then selected the "Location" tab from the two rows of tabs. I set the location to my D drive (non-system drive). Clicked "Apply" and "OK". A My Music folder already existed on this drive. Got the prompts for "Do you want to move the files in this folder to the new location? (clicked Yes)" That worked for the My Music folder. Then I tried My Pictures folder... same right click, Properties, Location. Set the path to my P drive where I had an already existing My Pictures folder.
Got the same prompts for "Do you want to move the files in this folder to the new location? (clicked Yes)" Then I got a warning message that said "Unable to copy folder where one already exists (or some verbage similar to that)". So I tried it again. Nothing. Closed out of all folders and then reopened to try again. When I right clicked on My Pictures in my User Profile and selected properties, there was just a single row of tabs with no Location tab. There was no way to change the path of the folder. ??? Puzzling. So I am looking for a way to repair the User Profile folder and reenable the Location tab on the folder properties. Just did a clean install last night

The partition labeled "Extra HD" can be erased, but I don't want my boot partition to be messed up at all. Is this even possible? When I try and download from Microsoft it says XP m/c illegal action (or some such). So far I have been unable to find a copy I can download on a XP m/c.
Normally in Windows Vista when you click printers you can select to show the location of the printer. How can you do this in Windows 7?

When I do a save as file and I click on Desktop on the side bar it will save it to my desktop in System32/config/desktop instead of user/desktop. If I save a file instead of save as it will go to my normal desktop under user/desktop. Is there a setting somewhere to change the default desktop back to user?

I (think I have a backup) on an 5yr. old 40g portable done with HDClone. Now I'm trying to follow your Win 7 Image Backup, I do have a few more older HDD's but I want to use a new 32g Corsair flash, but "Create a System Image" keeps giving me a "the drive is not a valid backup location." View 9 Replies View RelatedI set up Backup and Restore in the Wrong place, I believe. I set it up on my G Drive which is called HP Tools. The drive capacity is 3.95G. I began getting messages that there was no more room on the G Drive. It had only saved to the drive once.
So I went out and purchased a 8G flash drive and set it up to use that drive. Now I am getting similar notices saying there is no more space on that drive. It has only saved one restore point.
How much space do I need? In the past, with other computers, I have saved it on my C drive I believe.

View 6 Replies View RelatedA day or two ago, I noticed that the drop down menus (like for any program, File, Edit, whatever) are suddenly all shoved to the far left side of my screen, unless they're about 3 - 4 inches in on my screen. Instead of starting on the left edge of the menu you click on, such as favorites, and having a slight gap between the edge of the menu and the edge of the screen, it shoves it flush to the edge of the screen.

When I open a wmv file such as I get with an email, the window that opens is in upper left corner of my screen and is about 2" square. I always drag it to nearly full-screen size and watch it and then close, hoping that it will retain the final size. Not so. I have looked for settings to correct this in both Windows and WMP, but have obviously missed something, as often happens. Suggestions?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI currently have my Xbox 360 connected up to my Laptop via Ethernet and I am having a problem with streaming videos and music. Everything else works fine, it connects to Xbox Live etc, and connects to the Laptop and finds the video files, it just won't play them. It gives the error:
'The connection to your computer was lost. Make sure your computer is turned on, connected to the network, and running media sharing software.
Status Code: 53-C00DF238'
I can't find much information about this error apart from one person stating that the ethernet connection to their Xbox had made itself public rather than private and could fix it by changing it to private again.
This is where I'm having a problem. The connection is showing up as an unidentified network with no internet access and as a public network. I can't figure out how to change it to a private network, there just doesn't seem to be an option.
Everything else on the laptop is working fine, my firewall is configured correctly, media player 12 is sharing correctly, the homegroup is set up etc. It just won't stream the video and the only thing I can think of now is that it needs to be a private network in order to allow streaming. I just can't change it.
I have attached a screenshot of my network & sharing centre to show you how it won't let me change the network location type.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop PC with a Broadcomm Gigabit ethernet onboard. I live in a rural area and do not have cable internet and I have to use wireless. I have a UM175 wireless USB device. I use the USB to connect to the internet and use "Internet Connection Sharing" to share with my local connection (Broadcomm).
I set the Broadcomm to 192.168.0.1 and all the other PC's on my home network can get to the Internet through it.
My problem is I cannot get the Broadcomm network location to get set to Home. It keeps defaulting to Public, and because it is Public, I cannot use Homegroups with it because it is being seen as a Public network.
I tried removing the wireless card and, using Device manager, I disabled the Broadcomm and re-enabled it but when it came back online it automatically reverted to "Public".
