File Magically Disappeared, Still Visible In The Windows 7 Search Index?

Aug 10, 2011

I was looking for a file when I noticed it was gone. I fired up the Windows search engine and Search Everything, both of which said the file was still there. When I try to open the search result in any media player, it says the file could not be found.I already restarted my system, but both search engines still say the file exists. Is the file still there? I cannot find it with Undelete Plus, but it did find a lot of files that were recently deleted.

Now that SSD drives are becoming more affordable has anyone come up with a way to move the Hibernation file to a different physical drive. Based on the number of Googles I've seen this appears to be a common issue.

Windows 7 - Page File Re-location?

Feb 19, 2011

I have attempted to place my page file to an external disk via USB > I:, on my Win 7 HP system as I had on my old Vista HP system, to assist in performance.fter setting no (zero size) pf on C: going through the motions on re-start I get a message indicating that windows has by default created a pf on C:, (I take it this is for memory dump purposes) & on checking the external disk no pf was created although in advanced settings dialogue box a system managed text is indicated against drive I:, the funny thing is on C: the page file size was exactly the same prior to change even though no page file is indicated for C: in the dialogue box.I tried again leaving a 200mb fixed sized pf for the memory dump on C: but got exactly the same response, system managed pf on I: where no pf exists on the drive.

File Refers To A Location That Is Unavailable?

Jan 8, 2013

I have more than a 100GB of video files in wmv format on my Windows 7 partition. When I tried to look for it the other day, the folder /Users/kl/Videos/Logitech Webcam/ was no longer there. But when i searched for "wmv" it showed up in search, then then I clicked open location, it said that the location is unavailable. I know that the files are still on the disk because I have 370GB on that partition, and only 90GB is free. This was the same as when I could still access those video files so they could not have been deleted. How can I gain access to these files again? Change USER And Programs File Location?

Aug 21, 2010

I performed a successful clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I installed the OS to a 100gb volume with the intention of using that only for the OS. I, without thinking, allowed the setup to name that drive C. Further, without noticing I allowed the Programs folder and the Users folder to go into this volume. I intended for everything but the OS to go into a large second file named E. My thinking is that the only way that I can fix this situation is to do a new clean install and get it right this time (as much as my limited knowledge will allow. how to rectify this. ntel e6600 Core 2 Duo @ 2.4 GHz Noctua NH-U12P CoolerASUS P5QOCZ Reaper 2X2GB DDR2 800 (PC 6400) EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 640 MB WD 250GB GB SATA II Corsair CMPSU 550W

Hosts File Alternate Location Is Not Recognized?

Nov 28, 2012

I have tried to move the hosts file location by changing the registrykeyHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesTcpipParametersDataBasePathto the desired folder location. However, it appears that this key is somehow ignored by my system (Windows 7 64 bit) and the default location%SystemRoot%system32driversetc is still the one where the hosts file is read.I notice it because any changes made to the hosts file in the default location are detected (I check it with the ping command) and any changes to the new location are simply ignoredI have copied and pasted the hosts file with different values between the default and new folder, so I guess it is not a problem with the hosts file having the wrong format. I also copied and paste the new folder path to the registry key so it is also not a problem of having misspelled the folder path, either. I also restarted the computer after changing the registry key.

Can't Move WindowsImageBack Or System & User File To A New Location

Nov 11, 2011

I originally backed up my System & User files using the Backup utility in Tools to a slave drive. That drive was full so I purchased a larger capacity drive and installed it in place of the original slave drive.

I copied over my data but have been unable to copy the file original "Backup" file (shows "0" bytes & empty) I created.

I also had a "WindowsImageBackup" folder (160GB) that had folders and files in it that I have also not been able to copy to the new slave drive.

I am saving my old "Slave" drive so I assume I can use it to restore my original image I created, eyh?

Windows 7 Sharing 'breaks' When Move A File To Shared Location

Jan 15, 2013

Why does Windows 7's networking/sharing have to be infinitely more complicated than XP was? I have a computer running Windows 7 Home x64 that I call "file server". My main day-to-day machine is a laptop running Windows 7 Pro x64. There are several other computers throughout the house all running WinXP Pro (32 bit). I do a lot of video processing on my laptop, and whenever a file is done processing and ready to live on the file server, I move it over there. As soon as I do this, sharing for the computer called "file server" DIES. All shares on the machine become inaccessible, and all other machines lose access. My workaround for the time being is to simply reboot the file server, which magically restores sharing. However, this is a horrible workaround since files of all types are being accessed from that machine all day long.

Default "Browse For File" Location In Web Browser "choose File" Box

Jul 18, 2012

how can I change this?

I believe the location is causing crashes, since I blew up lots of Library registry values (in an attempt to remove them from the OS), and I think it defaults to the library page.

eg, 2shared - file upload and sharing [edit: stupid editor auto href'd the text... bah]

crashes IE and Firefox (not Chrome for some reason... possibly because it uses its own code?) when I click the browse button (same for any "browse" button that spawns a native find-your-file thing).

It may be something else, but anyway...

edit: If I disable "Expand to Current Folder" in Win Explorer, the crash does not occur. So perhaps it is trying to expand to a folder that is broken?
I want to keep "Expand to Current Folder" on, though, as I like the feature.
