So I recently deleted my linux partition on my computer. After doing this I have over 160gb of free space I need to relocate to my c:/ drive. I used computer management to delete the linux partition, now I'm staring at the green box telling me I have free space. So, what to do? Picture included!
View 5 RepliesI have Win7 installed as my OS. In my desktop I have 2 different physical hard-drives. First one is 40 GB which is whole C-Drive without any partitions. Now the other hard-drive is having capacity of 500 GB, which I had divided into 4 partitions namely D, E, F (each 100 GBs) and the last one is G-Drive with 200 GBs capacity. Now, 2 days back I had used Win 7's inbuilt Disk Management tool and had shrunk my D-Drive by 15 GBs. Hence, I had got a new partition with 15 GBs capacity which I named as Z-Drive (just to recognise it very easily).
Today my work was over and I had no need for that Z-Drive anymore so I just explored 'My Computer and formatted Z-Drive using right-click context menu. After formatting Z-Drive I started Disk Management tool. I just right-clicked Z drive and clicked 'delete volume' so that I may get that much space as 'Unallocated' and then I would again extend the D-Drive (or so I thought). But when I deleted my Z-Drive, don't know how but G-Drive also got deleted along with it and now both Z and G drives are shown by green color in Disk Management tool and they are showing their capacity (15 GBs and 200 GBs respectively) as free space!
I have a lot of crucial and important data and files on G-Drive. How this G-Drive got deleted automatically along with Z-Drive?? And I haven't formatted G-Drive, are my files and data still present on G-Drive? After all this I right clicked 200 GBs partition (G-Drive) and selected 'New Simple Volume' and followed the steps accordingly (I had checked 'Do not format partition' while creating 'New Simple Volume on that green colored 200 GBs space) but this tool waits for 3-4 minutes and gives error message as "The operation failed to complete because the Disk Management console is not up-to-date. Refresh the view by using the refresh task. If the problem persists close the Disk Management console, then restart Disk Management or restart the computer".
I had refreshed and restarted the computer several times after that and tried to create that 'New Simple Volume' but every time the same error-message pops up. Is my data still safe on that 200GBs space (as I had checked 'Do not format partition' while creating 'New Simple Volume')? How I can convert that 200 GBs space into G-Drive? I have a lot of important data and files on G-Drive!
I currently partitioned my drive so I can have a dual boot of Windows 7. How would I go about deleting the Ubuntu partitions, so I have just Windows 7? I don't want to just delete the partitions because the computer boots off of GRUB. Can you guys help me out?

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have had a startup registry file corrupt after restoring to factory defaults. this has forced me to re-install the os. my DATA partition is no longer mountable through linux but shows on the set up when i try to install to the DATA drive it states a file is corrupt on the disk that i burnt. my files are saved in a backup folder buts its 100GB ( i have no means of transferring or storing it). windows cannot repair the os: this is why im forced into a reinstall. how do i remount the partition from linux? how do i reinstall windows while keeping my files bearing in mind it does not function (assuming the above fails).

I don't really want to keep linux and was planning on installing the Retail version of Windows 7 once i buy it. However, while im booted in windows, i cannot see linux at all. I can only see the Windows 7 partition (C: ) and vista partition (D: ) under Computer.
But i can see it in Disk Management
The last two partitions are for linux.
So my question is, when i decide to install windows 7, will the windows 7 install disc see those linux partitions so i can delete them while installing Windows 7? You know the utility in the Windows 7 install disc that allows u to delete, format etc. partitions.

my memory card shows some folders and in this some files wid name like these charters Ω Σyïº.≥╒ and they are not deleting..i also try to delete this folder & file with unlocker and it also failed to delete those file.my memory card is 2 gb and when i check the property of this folder it shows 36 gb data.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI am using dual booted laptop Windows 7 and Linux. I opened my Disk management and I right clicked the Linux partition drive and I selected "Delete Volume", After that i formated that partition. Now when I restarted my laptop, i got error like this:
"Grub loading. Error: Unknown files grub rescue>".
Then I created a live USB contains SGD iso file. I booted this USB on booting time and selected Windows boot. It asked in the black screen with options "Start windows normally " and " Launch and Start up Repair and " I selected the second option and I tried to restore my back up files, then I can see that C drive contains only the files and folders which I was stored in D drive. and D drive shows only 200 MB size. I dont have CD drive in my laptop. Before this problem:
C drive is -58GB
D drive is -141GB
Now C drive shows 141GB and contains the files which were in my D drive.
1.Can I delete my recovery partition after creating recovery discs.
2.Or Is there any advantage of keeping that partition than recovery discs.
I am currently running XP as my main OS on one partition but I also have Windows 7 Beta on a separate partition on the same hard drive. Right now I cannot currently access Windows 7 when booting up, I have no clue why that is as I used to be able to do that.
What I want to do is delete the partition Windows 7 Beta is on and install Windows 7 RC as my main OS. I have tried booting to a disc with GParted on it to delete the partition but it will not boot to the cd, I know my BIOS is in the right order as I can easily boot to the Windows 7 RC dvd I have made. When I try to use something like EASEUS Partition Master or the Disk Management on XP, the delete option is greyed out when I right click on the Windows 7 Beta partition. I cannot figure out how to do delete it so I can extend my XP partition to the full space on the hard drive and then install the Windows 7 RC.
Im using windows 7 OS, I have 2 different Hard Disk 1 is for OS 40 gig and 2nd 80gig is for my files, problem is the second HDD have a partition of 11gig and 69gig, i use it previously for my XP OS.. now im trying to re size my partion in 2nd hdd im trying to make 11gig into like 25gig up.. and this is what ive done.. i partition my 69gig to 20-49 and i try to delete 30gig so that i can merge 11 gig and 20 gig..when i delete the 20gig it become free space. and when i try to merge 11 and 20gig i cant their is no function of extend in 11gig partition, and then when i try to make new simple volume in that 20gig i deleted it shows an error of "Their is not enough space on the disk to perform this operation"..

I set up my main hard drive with Windows 7 on one partition, Linux on another partition, and a third partition for storage. I recently needed more space for Windows, and no longer needed Linux, so using the Windows 7 disk manager I deleted the Linux partition and extended the Win partition using the newly unallocated space.
Upon restarting my machine, I am no longer able to boot into windows but instead am presented with the message:

I have a Windows 7 disk that I am using to access the repair utility, which I have run countless times. I have tried severel of the tutorials to rebuild BCD and FixMBR, etc etc. Frankly I am getting lost in all the commands and not even sure what does what anymore!
I deleted my partitions by mistake. Drive originally had 2 partitions, 100MB (Windows 7 setup partitiion) and 930GB (Data storage partition). In summary:
1) I deleted the 100MB partition (because disk is(was) now storage disk) and 930gb partition were deleted too.
2) I started following a guide from microsoft and re-create the 2 partitions as RAW (without format).
3) I deleted the 2 raw partition and created a full space partition to the disk QUICK FORMATTING NTFS.
4) Started to try "Recuva" but most of the files recovered (1,000,000 files) are broken, i tried the option to recover Folder Structure but fails.
Is there any way to recover the files and Folder Structure properly? Except of the partitions deletions/creations I didn't write anything inside the disk.
I have been messing around with Ubuntu and other OS's and after I installed Ubuntu on a 5gb partition, I realized that is way too small, so I went into Windows, opened up Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc) and just deleted the volume. Well now I have a green partition and when I try to delete the partition, I get the error "There is not enough space available on the disk(s) to complete this operation" I am doing this all on my internal hard dive in my laptop.

During this process, I selected 'Custom installation'followed by the hard disk partition containing my personal data and 'Drive options (advanced)', followed by 'Delete'. Is this a secure method of erasure or should I take additional precautionary steps before selling?

At the time, I was thinking that 40gb should be well enough for Windows and any programs I install. - After right clicking on the stick or on a partition and selecting format, nothing happens. Literally nothing, its like I didn't press it.
- Another a bit troubling issue, is that when I tried to scan with my antivirus, I get that the scan engine cant initialize, although the whole software works. I am using Bitdefender Internet Security 2010
I am currently scanning with ESET Online Scanned for viruses, to be sure I don't have a nasty one, but from what I see is that other then that, everything works fine. Finished the scan, with no issues. Also the troubling memory stick, i went to another PC, and was virus free and also was easily formatted. So i am afraid is something related to the system or something like that.

machine: dell xps studio 8100
os: win 7,
processor: i7 2.8
ram: 16gb (max it will take)
video: ati radeon 5700 (running 3 monitors)
versions: as far as i know i am running current versions of everything, including video drivers, flash, chrome, etc. (i've tried running chrome with both the build in version of flash and the system version -haven't seen a difference)
browser: i nearly exclusively run chrome / canary with auto-updates so am at the latest builds.what seems to cause me to use up / run out of memory is after i play videos (Internet, netflix, etc.), the memory seems to get used, but is not returned to the system, even if the browser is closed and re-opened.right now for example things are working fine; i rebooted my system a couple hours ago (but have not played any videos). i have adobe lightroom running, picasa, chrome and canary (currently 4 web browser windows open with 52 tabs open). task manager currently shows me using 8.20gb of ram, that seems pretty reasonable to me.
normally my system will keep running properly (if a program is closed, memory is freed up) right up until i start to play any videos (Internet, netflix, etc.) then it will start using up more memory. (of course i expect it to use more memory during playback) however, even if i restart the browser, the memory does not get freed back up. for example, just prior to the reboot, with everything closed, i was using right around 8gb of ram. once i rebooted, i was using 1.something gb of ram prior to opening any programs.however, once i start playing some videos, i never seem to be able to get my ram freed back up again unless i reboot the whole system. this is not just a problem with how much memory the system shows as being available, i frequently actually run out of memory. (task manager will show me as using around 15gb and then everything starts swapping out like crazy).
I find that if I run chkdsk and watch the memory usage in task manager it jumps by about 50MB every 2 seconds or so until it either finishes or hits around 3.2GB at which point my physical memory shows 99% used (I'm running 4GB), and the system of course slows to a crawl.f you just run a quick chkdsk on your boot drive you may not notice it, but try running something longer like chkdsk /r on a flash drive or chkdsk /f on a bigger internal drive (but not your OS drive as this would require a reboot) and watch the memory usage climb. I have duplicated this on both systems I have running Windows 7. My XP machine (checking the same USB flash drive) uses a much more normal amount of memory for chkdsk (20 - 30 MB).
