Deleting Partition With Dual Booted OS?
Apr 3, 2012Installed 7 Home Premium 32 bit on a partition, now i found out all my drivers, at least the important ones are 64 bit only. How do i remove the partition safely?

Accidentally Dual Booted Windows 7
Mar 27, 2011I used to have ubuntu dual booted with win 7.then i decided i didn't want ubuntu dual booted anymore and wanted my boot up to automatically boot win7.I deleted the ubuntu partition, but then I lost my boot up menu during startup.So I ran the Win 7 Ultimate disk in hopes to repair that.Instead I ended up with a fresh install that seems to be a seperate partition.the good news is it fixed my boot up , but now I have the option of 2 win 7s when I boot.I want to have just 1.and i think the one I want to keep is the fresh install, so my question is.How can I make my new install of win 7 be the only operating system on my computer. The older win7 i have is the one i have been using , but think i want to put all my data i need on a external hard drive, then delete that partition, then make the new fresh installled win 7 as my only operating system on my laptop.

Jun 24, 2011I've an hp mini 110 with windows seven starter and I want to make a dual boot 7/XP...I downloaded the 32bit version of the sp3 XP and following this guide: Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP I installed on a new partition...(I didn't put the sata drivers cause when I started the usb on the boot xp started to install without problem)..after xp finished I booted but I get this error "windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.."...when I only can see XP and It can't be opened...I tryed with the 7-system-recovery on the usb to make recovery and put these strings on prompt
bootrec /FixMbr
bootrec /FixBoot
bootrec /RebuildBcd
but nothing,same error!!!I thought it was a sata driver issue so I downloaded the drivers and opened on the system recovery through usb but it says they can't be installed....so should I slipstream in the xp iso before install xp??

Deleting Win 7 Beta Partition
May 7, 2009I am currently running XP as my main OS on one partition but I also have Windows 7 Beta on a separate partition on the same hard drive. Right now I cannot currently access Windows 7 when booting up, I have no clue why that is as I used to be able to do that.
What I want to do is delete the partition Windows 7 Beta is on and install Windows 7 RC as my main OS. I have tried booting to a disc with GParted on it to delete the partition but it will not boot to the cd, I know my BIOS is in the right order as I can easily boot to the Windows 7 RC dvd I have made. When I try to use something like EASEUS Partition Master or the Disk Management on XP, the delete option is greyed out when I right click on the Windows 7 Beta partition. I cannot figure out how to do delete it so I can extend my XP partition to the full space on the hard drive and then install the Windows 7 RC.

Aug 15, 2011Im using windows 7 OS, I have 2 different Hard Disk 1 is for OS 40 gig and 2nd 80gig is for my files, problem is the second HDD have a partition of 11gig and 69gig, i use it previously for my XP OS.. now im trying to re size my partion in 2nd hdd im trying to make 11gig into like 25gig up.. and this is what ive done.. i partition my 69gig to 20-49 and i try to delete 30gig so that i can merge 11 gig and 20 gig..when i delete the 20gig it become free space. and when i try to merge 11 and 20gig i cant their is no function of extend in 11gig partition, and then when i try to make new simple volume in that 20gig i deleted it shows an error of "Their is not enough space on the disk to perform this operation"..

Jul 16, 2011I deleted my partitions by mistake. Drive originally had 2 partitions, 100MB (Windows 7 setup partitiion) and 930GB (Data storage partition). In summary:
1) I deleted the 100MB partition (because disk is(was) now storage disk) and 930gb partition were deleted too.
2) I started following a guide from microsoft and re-create the 2 partitions as RAW (without format).
3) I deleted the 2 raw partition and created a full space partition to the disk QUICK FORMATTING NTFS.
4) Started to try "Recuva" but most of the files recovered (1,000,000 files) are broken, i tried the option to recover Folder Structure but fails.
Is there any way to recover the files and Folder Structure properly? Except of the partitions deletions/creations I didn't write anything inside the disk.
Error When Deleting Partition - Not Enough Space To Complete Operation
Jan 15, 2012I have been messing around with Ubuntu and other OS's and after I installed Ubuntu on a 5gb partition, I realized that is way too small, so I went into Windows, opened up Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc) and just deleted the volume. Well now I have a green partition and when I try to delete the partition, I get the error "There is not enough space available on the disk(s) to complete this operation" I am doing this all on my internal hard dive in my laptop.

Aug 29, 2012I'm a long-time reader but new poster. I am currently running Windows 7. I want to install Windows XP onto another disc and have a dual-boot setup. I keep Windows 7 up to date and secure, but for the XP partition, I would rather not have antivirus running or even installed, in order to limit background processes. I will not be logging into any place or making any credit card purchases when booted into Windows XP. It will just be used for surfing, games, etc. Further, if and when XP becomes compromised or buggy, I will simply overwrite the partition with a backup image.
If I use Bitlocker to lock down the Windows 7 partition (with the encryption key on a thumb drive) and boot into Windows XP, am I correct in thinking the XP installation see or can't access the Windows 7 partition? If XP gets compromised, can a virus access or write to the Windows 7 partition?
Is there any other reason why this would not be secure? Can a virus write to the BIOS?

During this process, I selected 'Custom installation'followed by the hard disk partition containing my personal data and 'Drive options (advanced)', followed by 'Delete'. Is this a secure method of erasure or should I take additional precautionary steps before selling?

I am running Windows 7 dualbooted with WinXP, everything works fine. I want to get rid of the XP partition, and keep the Windows 7 one only, but there is a problem. THe partition on which XP is installed is set as system and active. I've googled around but I've found no easy solutions to this. Any ideas on how to do this without reinstalling the OS?
My second question would be about the Windows 7 update: I installed the 7100 build, when it got released, but as I saw now, the latest builds are like 7200+. Are the changes updated on my build somehow, or I would have to reinstall to have the new build?
Dual Booting, Two Hds Vs Partition
May 23, 2009What would be the easiest way to do a dual boot? Would it be:
1)Use a second hard drive, one with XP one with Windows 7? If I did this would I be able to plug the XP drive in and see it as my D: drive? What if I went and switched it back in the bios to the XP hard would I see windows 7 stuff in D:? I’d like to do this since I have two hard drives one that is brand new.
2) Just partition my current hard drive and dual boot. If I did this would I be able to switch back and forth and see files on both boots? Also what about if I added my other new hard drive would both see it easily?
I don’t know much about dual boots so please fill me in and answer my questions.

Choose the same hard drive and leave it unchanged without formatting. When it asks you what to do then choose to install in a different directory "C:Windows.xp".Finish installing that one and only the necessary drivers.afterwards.Install Windows 7 on C: over the regular C:windows. A warning will tell you that it will move the old files to "Windows.old" directory. The good thing is it doesn't touch the Windows.xp directory.Install and run EasyBCD. Windows 7 And XP On Same Partition - No Dual Boot Possible
Jan 10, 2012I installed Win7 on the same Partition as WinXP. I was in a hurry and forgot totally to partition the HD before I installed, was doing 100 things on the side during the Installation, and noticed my mistake only after the install was complete. Is there any way I can do a Multi boot for those two OS now? The WinXP folder has been renamed to Windows.old, and even with EasyBCD there's no way I can get the Comp to boot into WinXP.

On start up I got the dual boot option and would just select the SSD as the main OS drive.I got tired of the dual boot option and foolishly formatted the OS partition on the Caviar.I has assumed with on OS on the caviar it would default to the SSD. Dumb me.I can rectify this with out reloading Win on the SSD. I finally got all my applications set up right.

I have 133 GB free on my 230 GB internal hard drive, but when I partition the drive the computer will only let me open about 5 GB of space. I have defragged the drive and nothing changed.

Jan 16, 2009I've just installed Windows 7 64-bit on my desktop PC as it worked so well for the past month on my laptop I shrunk my Vista 64 partition and installed Win 7 x64 build 7000 on the new partition. All went smooth and well!
As I wanted to transfer some files and settings from my Vista install to my new Windows 7 I assigned a drive letter to my hidden Vista drive in the "Disk Management" utility and went on with my business. Now, as I'm done I'd like to hide my Vista partition again but I can't get it to work
When I select my Vista partition and select the "Change Drive Letter and Paths" and then press the "Remove" button I get the following error box:
"Windows cannot remove the drive letter of your volume. This may happen if your volume is a system or boot volume, or has page files."
My Vista volume is the first volume of the physical drive, the boot files is there but I don't have any page file on it. How come this drive could be hidden and revealed in the first place but not hidden again?

But I'm stuck at resizing the existing partition as described at Partition or Volume - Shrink
I get as far as the command prompt and selecting the drive, but as soon as I type "shrink querymax" or "shrink desired=15360" or even just "shrink" I get the message
"Diskpart has encountered an error: This service cannot be started in safe mode"
Now I can't see any way of getting a command prompt WITHOUT starting in safe mode.
