How to reboot Windows 7 remotely from RDP Login Screen?
If I RDP to a system older than Windows 7 OS, the CTRL-ALT-END works on the RDP log in screen to bring up the Windows Security window to reboot. But it doesn't work for Windows 7 system! I have a Windows 7 Ultimate system that I need to restart remotely from the RDP login screen but I just can't.
I have a classroom that we need to log in as a local admin (the exam software needs administrator privelidges to work correctly) and I was wondering if anyone could come up with a solution to save me having to go to each machine and log them in indevidually.
View 3 Replies View Relatedwhen I was playing a game and it crashed on a loading screen, I then could only boot into windows extremely slowly so I knew something was wrong. Since then I have booted into safe mode and done a virus check and it found nothing, I had then done a start up repair multiple times and for one reason or another the system would then reboot just as the login screen is loading. I have recently de fragmented the drive externally and run a slow disk check which found nothing. I've launched start up repair again which says it's unable to fix the problem and I can't boot into safe mode because it'll reboot. I should also mention I was having problems with the drive a few weeks ago where I was getting different error messages before booting but I managed to sort that out. If a solution can't be found it would be safe to say the drive is failing. Here is the bsod when I disabled automatic rebooting along with the startup repair error.

As in when i turn of display last local users, so that if i was to enter XXX into the username and XXX into the password and it will connect Although i wouldnt mind being able to set up roaming profiles between these systems either.

My wife did something on her PC (she doesn't know exactly for sure what & can't explain it completely me), and now she can't boot up her PC. She says it had something to do with changing the security settings for a program she uses a lot so it wouldn't keep asking her if she wanted to launch it, and that's when it told her to restart the PC, then it wouldn't boot up anymore.When you reboot, the screen eventually goes to a black screen saying "Windows failed to start. A software or hardware error may be the cause" or something to that effect. It offers me the option to "Launch Startup Repair" or "Start Windows Normally".If I Launch Startup Repair, nothing much happens --- it says it's adding files, then it looks like Windows is about to boot up, then it goes to a black screen for a long time & nothing happens.
If I choose Start Windows Normally, it simply reboots & eventually brings me back to the same screen again.I've tried using rebooting and selecting ESC to get to the boot menu, then installing the Win 7 installation disc & selecting the DVD drive, then I select thelanguage, then I click Repair, but it sits there forever with nothing happening.I also tried an outside boot disc I found on the web & it doesn't launch.
As of about 3 days ago my Dell Inspiron N7010 (Windows 7 Home Prem 64bit) fails to boot up. It gets to the initial Windows screen before the login screen and freezes, then sends me into Startup Repair. [code] I've tried running the diagnostics and get no error codes. I've tried restore points, memory diagnostics.. pretty much everything except factory image, with no success. I have a lot of government programs installed on this laptop, so.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy son has a Toshiba Satelite P205 that he just upgraded from Windows XP Home Premium to Windows 7 32-bit. After the upgrade completed the computer booted fine. The within 20 minutes he got the BSOD and the system rebooted. Now he can't get Windows to fully start. We've tried all of the options from F8 with no success. We have the Toshiba System Recovery Disk but it won't launch. (The Boot sequence has been changed to boot from CD/DVD and then the Hard Drive.)The Memory Diagnostic from the Windows 7 disk ran fine with no errors. I'm thinking I might need to re-format/wipe the drive to start fresh but don't know where to obtain a boot CD(no floppy drive on this laptop). Does anyone recommend a software that I can purchase to clear everything without destroying the CD/DVD accessibility so I can then use the System Recovery Disk to put it back to the original factory Settings?

I tried to do systems restore but it said that I did not have a system restore point. I cannot start in any safe mode. I have all my pictures, uni work etc., and I am terrified I've lost it all. View 9 Replies View Relatedi have a Dell Vostro 1520 and im running Windows 7 with a 32bit. It is only 2 years only. It started about a month ago. I was on my laptop viewing and deleting some unwanted photos i had. A few minutes later i realized that i deleted a photo that i wanted. So i went to the recycling bin and restored that photo. When i went back to my photos and went into the album, it said something like i do no have permission to access this folder. Please press continue to get full permission. I clicked continue and i got the access i should have. Now i tried many more random folders and the same thing happened. Also when i came out of the folders, the folders had a big pad lock sign on the front of it. After that i shut down the laptop and went to turn it back on. The laptop will power on like normal. I can press f12 for the boot options. which i have already tried many times. I also tried it in safe mode and what-not, but still nothing. I can hear the fan and stuff spinning up like normal. I have also put and CD into the CD ROM and that spins up fine. So after the Dell logo on the screen, it goes black and stays that way with the cursor. You can move the cursor around no problem. I should also add that the battery light is and has been flashing for a good wile. Its flashing orange and blue. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the battery. Because my laptop will not charge with the AC adapter in it for many months now. It will only stay powered on with the AC adapter plugged in. One more thing. The LED lights over the buttons. None of the are flashing, besides one, on the far left. And i cant find out anywhere what this LED light stands for.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOkay so lately I've noticed that my PC isn't displaying the BIOS splash screen anymore and skips straight to the Windows login screen.It didn't really bother me until today when I wanted to boot into Ubuntu and I couldn't select which OS I wanted to use.I'm pretty sure the problem isn't the BIOS itself since I unplugged all the peripherals except the speakers, removed all the RAM and the BIOS did beep repeatedly. And given enough time, I can boot into windows (and only windows ).Apparently people have had this problem before and all the solutions I've read such as "Press 'del' to go into your BIOS!" really doesn't help since I can't see anything in my BIOS menu.The only solution that made sense to me was that my CMOS battery could be dying. I haven't changed my rig since I built it in 2009. The only significant event that happened recently might be that Windows updated itself.

Everything shows up fine until the welcome screen after that it normally used to fade to the desktop but now it goes blank. The screen in Black with only the mouse pointer. Its not hung, i can move the mouse pointer. Then after a minute or so it advances to the desktop. Everything on the desktop loads up in less than 5s. The PC runs fine, it is really fast as there are only a few programs, but only boots slow. My total boot time is about 3-5 min. I think it should be like in a minute or so.I have not tweaked much with the system but have installed a few programs like MS office, Nero, Acrobat and Photoshop. These are the only heavy programs in the PC right now. The only games on the PC are AC1 and AC2. I have uninstalled my graphic driver and reinstalled. I already minimized the programs in the msconfig>startup to the minimum. I have run ccleaner, spybot s&d, Antimalware and i also have a trial copy of Kaspersky AV (upgrading later to 1-year license). there are no peripherals attached during boot except the USB keyboard and mouse. A printer is attached too but is most of the time turned off.

My homescreen inevitably pops up, and a popup says that it was a graphics card error. This is fine, because I still get my stuff back. However..Today, windows 7 (x64) said it had updates, so I update and reboot. After the reboot, my computer was in a completely different resolution (800x600).I tried right clicking and going to "screen resolution", but it wouldn't let me change back to my old resolution (1366x768 or something like that). It says that the only other setting is 1024x768. I have full administrative rights, I haven't installed or used any programs except the windows install. The last program I used was GIMP. Why won't it let me change back my resolution?

Upon reboot, I get the black screen of death with just the cursor instead of the usual login screen. I have tried the following thus far: These all give me the black screen of death with movable cursor:boot in safe mode boot in safe mode with networking boot in safe mode with command prompt last known good configuration I did an initial system startup repair which went through and said it repaired it, rebooted, but no change. I did a pre-boot diagnostic test - nothing memory test - nothing tried restoring from restore point, but it says I don't have any (LIES! BLASPHEMY!) tried restoring from restore point on external disk - seemed okay, then failed. chkdsk - found some stuff, fixed it, no change. tried ctrl+alt+del on black screen of death - nothing
Now, I know that the hard drive itself is alright, that is, the information is still all there still. While I can't give you exact specs, I can tell you that I am on a Dell Studio XPS running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit. I'm at a loss as to what else to do. Despite being a black screen, with just a movable cursor, the system still appears to be running, as every few minutes, it will show the "thinking" cursor, where it shows the little circle next to the arrow.

It has been working well since, with a few hiccups here and there.Three days ago it started behaving really badly: it would boot normally up to the welcome screen, but when I click on one of the users icons it simply stays there with the rotating icon forever. It won't even show me the usual box to insert the password.If I boot to a safe mode (no matter which) it boots without problems, but I see nothing wrong with either the device drivers or anything else.

I still have warranty, and today when i start up my computer it just froze and it commanded me to go to Windows Recovery ( recommended ) it went through my files and tried to repair it and i had to system restore.
as i system restored into later save date, it said that it failed?! so i didn't know what to do there. i tried hardware resetting and it didn't work.
also when i turned on my computer it would sometimes go to the login screen and it would say welcome for hours and hours, untill it became a black screen and it froze with the cursor..
When i turn on my computer it would always flash or blink once on the caps lock.
Windows 7 machine working fine from 20 april 2011 - 5 October 2012 I found an old cd and stuck it in the machine to see what was on it. Turns out a few scanned hi-res images and a fujiimage viewer.exe file. I thought i'd open the image viewer and see what it was. Double clicked and away we went. I moved the mouse to navigate to the start of the image viewer and the computer froze (blue circle thinking icon) I waited 5 mins and then ctrl + alt + del to get to task manager. Pulled that up - image viewer not responding - so attempted to close the program from task manager. Poof windows lost all my desktop icons and went to the loading screen background not my desk top background. I waited another 5 mins and then hit th re-start button.So comp goes back to loadup - gets to the bit where windows is loading and the flag comes up all nice and shiny. Freezes. Reset. your computer falied to load. Options to check and repair or star windows normally. Start win normally, get to flag screen. freezes. back to your comp failed to load. go to repair. wait 1+ hours. windows cant repair. reboot. your comp failed to load (im getting sick of typing it let alone looking at the bloody thing). Start win safe mode. starts gets to log on. loads desktop. looks ok. restart. gets to logon. slowly ( i mean over 5 mins to get to desktop). gets to desktop. hit Ie falis to load. firefox fails to load. desktop greys out. try to shut down. takes 2 mins to get past logging off sign. then hangs on win shutting down sign. I reset again I knew bios battery was on it's way out so I changed that, also f8 at startup and chose load from last known good configuration. over 40 mins to get to desk top. after 2 mins of trying to click on the desktop icons greys out. cant pull up task manager.

I was wondering if there was any way to have a passworded account, but if I switch the computer on and go away for 10 minutes, I want to be able to come back and just login without having to go through the whole start up process? I only have one account, and its more for security.

View 4 Replies View Relatedi was trying to ghost my old HDD to my new SSD. So i got my software, turned off my computer and installed my SSD. My computer wouldnt boot off my old HDD so i looked in my BIOS menu for boot order. I seen that my SSD was set for slot 1 and my HDD was slot 2 for sata i thought that might be the problem, i saved and exited. Leaving my computer off i switched the sata cables and started it up again thinking that now my HDD was set for 1. I started up my comp and it started just fine, windows logo popped up and then my screen was black, i still had 1920x1600 resolution and my mouse cursor was there (small mouse cursor). I thought maybe it didnt boot correctly so i turned it off and put in my windows CD. started up again and booted off CD drive. Clicked on install windows, and clicked on Startup repair and let it run for about an hour with nothing really changng. It was getting late and i just wanted to take out the SSD and start fresh tomorrow night ( i only get 1-2 hours a night ) to get things working so i did a hard shutdown and went to bed. Tried it before work and still got a black screen with a movable small mouse cursor, tried it in safe mode with networking and i had 800x600 ( large mouse cursor) and it still wouldnt boot my desktop.my question is if i made it a slave, would i be able to salvage my important info? so when i get home tonight i have some sort of a game plan.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi have a MSI A6000 Laptop. Ive been trying to fix this problem for 2 day with 12 hours time and read countless forums but still haven't been able to solve it.
I recently encountered windows 7x64 installation error, where i could not select disk partition to install. ( i formatted and deleted all of the partitions for a clean install). But somehow after running the memory diagnosis i was able to go through the installation. But during the installation on the second time it restarts, my computer gets a black screen when starting.
i cannot access the post screen menu or the recovery option( it is however possible to access the same thing via booting through the USB and selecting the recovery option instead of installing). Also the memory diagnosis tool does not work any more giving an error. The bios options are as follows:
MAIN : Serial ATA [Hard Disk]
Serial ATA [ATAPI CDROM]
Advanced: PCI Latency timer [64]
Legacy USB support [enabled]
AHCI Mode [endabled]
After installing 2 new GPU's i tried to run a game when suddenly my screen turned black. I rebooted my pc, logged into my normal account and everything was changed to basic ( like you just installed windows 7 ). A small thing popped up saying: User profile has been damaged. You are now using a temporary profile. ( Files that have been installed will be removed after the system has been shut off )I went to my User profile file and tried open it, but a messages popped up saying: C/Users/Jens Cannot be opened.File has been damaged and cannot be opened.Ive been searching on google, but i havent found anything to fix this.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 7 Home Premium.As I brought my computer out of sleep mode the computer had crashed with the screen showing vertical, multicolored lines that vaguely resembled gray.I had to hard restart my computer and after the splash screen, the login screen with all the users never appears, nor does my cursor.Nothing is on my screen except a faint glow indicating that it's active.
