I click on a shortcut and nothing happens. The only thing different is that I placed the "Show the desktop" on my taskbar. The icons here do work. What paralyzed my regular desktop icons and how do I unparalyze them?

View 6 Replies View RelatedIn UNIX, for changing the directory path, there is "cd" command. .This works fine in windows 7 too.. But the problem comes when we are trying to change the path using environment variables. .
In UNIX, cd $JAVA_HOME changes the path to the value set for JAVA_HOME,
Similarly is there any command in Windows which does the trick from command prompt for changing path using Environment variables. .
I have a ASUS Laptop with Intel I3 processer and Windows 7 Home Premium. I recently had a forced shutdown during a Windows upgrade session. Ever since then the Boot and Shutdown times have increased to over 15 minutes. I have run the msconfig unticking all but the antivirus (Kaspersky) and it still takes >15 min to boot and Shutdown. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two windows updates that keep failing. When i go to shutdown my computer I always have an update icon attached to the shutdown key. The download is always 1of1. Then when i reboot, the update icon is still there. I'm thinking since the two updates are failing, it has something to do with the 1of1 update not downloading properly. I went to windows update to check for new updates, and the only one is the two that keep failing. My computer just blue screened on shutdown today, winch got me thinking i really need to fix this.

View 9 Replies View RelatedOk So I got myself into a unique bind here. I was trying to install some custom system files (for a theme) and I did it wrong and now I cant open explorer.exe . I dont want to goto a backup because this is a easy fix. (in my view). So I need to know how to run command prompt with administrative privleges from command prompt.
I am trying to do this command: copy explorer.exe C:Windows
So if there is also another command I can just tack onto that that gives me admin rights to do it. I would be happy.
I'm a Linux user just starting to get the hang of Windows 7. How can one perform these functions with the Windows cd command:
1) Go back to the previous directory (cd - in Bash)
2) Go to the user's home directory (cd ~ in Bash)
3) Bookmark a directory (not built into bash, but cdargs or DerB can be added)
When I type into the command prompt the following: DIR "C:UsersRoyMy Documents" I do not get a listing of the My Documents directories and files. Instead the message displayed is "File not found".
