View 2 Replieswhat processes or services run on Port 80. I am trying to run XAMPP Apache virtual web server and Apache fails to start because a system process is listening on port 80. Apache needs to run on port 80. I had "thought" i fixed the error when I ended the service "web deployment agent service" (after realizing it runs on port 80), after doing this, apache started up just fine no problems. I restarted my computer, and sure enough, apache wouldn't run again. typing "netstat -aon" in a command prompt, sure enough again, port 80 was occupied by a process with a PID of 4...again. I open task manager, and the process descript is again, NT kernal and system process. I try ending the process form the task manager, and it will not stop.I have double checked services.msc and web deployment agent service is deactivated and not running. because of this i am perplexed as to what additional services would use port 80 just after a re boot.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI need a program that will close all the non-essential processes and services? Does any know how to do this or a program that will do it? EDIT: Ill rephrase. I only want processes that allow the computer to start and then for me to be able to delete a file that is being used by some unknown process.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Windows 7 install may be corrupted by something obscure that does not show up in or is not detected by Defender and other software. Is there a no simple way any longer to log processes and look at the names of the binaries and services rather than just watching them come and go in a Window? Or see how long it takes for a corrupted system driver to load? Or if the OS is constantly reloading it because it crashes? Has Windows Pro series become so dumbed down that effective system monitoring and analysis is now almost impossible?I do have Win7 pro so the system monitor and analysis tools should do more than just a "home" install does...but I cannot find any documentation on logging the activities of system processes anywhere. My install of Windows 7 seems to be indexing to drive like a dog with a broken hind leg. I was forced into a WGA check and it seems to me that there is something not quite right going on.I dread having to nuke and re-install because that means setting up all my wifes software and internet passwords, Citrix, office, and the list goes on and on...not to mention hours of updating Windows 7 from service pack one! My problems are most likely not a device on this machine because the machine runs like a dream with Knoppix, (my favorite OS of all time) Slackware or Mint Linux...but with the Windows7 that it was originally designed for it has recently started to run like a dog!
Could my trouble be something as simple as a flaky wifi driver? Strangely the Belkin USB wifi that I use runs like a top with Linux though, so I doubt that it is a hardware issue. The belkin driver is certified for Windows 7 and never acted up in the past.Because in the past I have seen Windows updates murder communication drivers especially with 2000 and XP it is a possibility that a recent critical update messed up the Belkin .inf ndis settings. Anyone else have a recent problem with 7 and Belkin Atheros USB wifi drivers?I will try running without the device and see if Windows gets its mojo back before I do anything drastic like nuke it and either dump windows for good or suffer through another ridiculous Windows cleansing re-install!

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to sort out issues with my Windows 7 machine and want to disable/set to manual services that I know are not needed, but every time I have done this in the past (a while ago now) I invariably run into an issue where I've inadvertently disabled a service that was needed by something, and I end up scratching my head (as all of my hair falls out around this point) and enabling everything just to sort it..
Is there any utility that anyone is aware of that lets you toggle service status, with the option to reset to default or reset to last status, while showing a list of services that I've changed?
I can't seem to word it properly for a search engine to find relevant results, and find usually specific services and not something I'm hoping exists.
I wish the Services.msc mmc had a checkbox or some sort of flag to show altered services so you could sort them by that, which would help a lot, but it doesn't.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI waited for weeks in Micosoft Technet for a solution but all that was offered was to kill all non-microsoft processes using msconfig and then ShellExView and it didn't help. No other possible solution/ troubleshooting tips were offered. [code] 98-100% of the time for example, if I try to change my volume, adjust/change the network from the taskbar, the popup window disappears when I attempt to move the mouse away from the right side of the taskbar where these icons live.Another example of the behavior is that I cannot use the Calender dropdown in Outlook 2010. I can still input the date myself, just that the dropdown loses or never gains focus. If I uninstall nvidia and use Win 7 64bit vanilla vga the problem still exists unless I also uninstall the vanilla drivers and NOT reboot. For this short window of opportunity, I can use dropdowns and popups.I have bought new mouse and keyboard to attempt to eliminate them as culprits, but all have been USB types so would still be using the same drivers, I believe, and I have not installed special drivers for them.Have uninstalled video drivers and Clean Sweep(ed) numerous times.

View 1 Replies View RelatedPart of my job involves taking images of many different computers using Norton Ghost and saving them to external drives. One of these drives is a Western Digital MyPassport that is soon being re-purposed. When taking one of the images with this drive I accidentally clicked on the System Volume Information folder and, while I caught my error this time, saw that there were 2 other ghost files already saved in that location. I would like to pull these off of this drive and transfer them to one that will still be in use for storing images, but can't gain access to the System Volume Information folder outside of Ghost to do so, and the steps to access the folder on my computer don't seem to work for the drive (show hidden files and folders is selected, hide protected operating system files is unchecked, and system restore is turned off for the drive).

How can I cleanup/delete all these useless entries? How can I delete ONE single entry manually?
Second question: Assume I want to hide icons and notification for mutiple/all entries (here approx 40 items) in ONE STEP.
Third question: How can I save/backup the current notification settings (for later restore) into a file? Are these notifcation settings stored in a certain branch of the Registry (which exactly) ?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm familiar with the fact that the processor is actually shared among many processes on every OS. That means that every process is actually running a portion of the time on the processor before it is paused and scheduled for later. If that is the case why for example when you play music or video on PC isn't the sound dicontinuous - it should be if it's played just a portion of the time? Or is the period between process switches so small that people don't even notice when it stops and starts again?

View 4 Replies View Relatedobviously you can see that I'm new here and here for a specific reason and this being my reason. So I just noticed that I had 5 explorer.exe processes running before with no windows/browsers open. I could tell my main one apart because it used more memory and the others all had *32 at the end (I'm using an x64 version of Win 7 Home)
I ended them and nothing happened, but then I also checked msconfig under the start-up tab and saw.
I've recently bought a new laptop with a load of program/process that i'd imagine i would never use.Would anyone be willing to tell me which programs i can uninstal (and what they do, if you could) and which processes to disable. You don't have to recommend what i do for all of them, just the ones you know.
