View 9 RepliesI have been wondering for a while, what if theres a game and i want to edit it's dll files or exe files? theres a game called amnesia and i want to add a extra button on the game's launcher, but i do not know how, i managed to download a couple programs that can do things like take the exe appart, or read some dll files but not with much success, if i take appart the exe i get 3 files, .text, .data, .rdata, and a folder called .rsrc with icons of the exe in it, i see the icons, sadly i havent found any way of opening the text or data files, the dll files ive managed to open, read and edit save, but then it doesn't change anything or if i modify the exe code it saves but then doesn't launch

View 8 Replies View Relatedmy OS is windows 7 sp1 x64, and I have the following problem:
I wanted to edit an XML file in the folder C:UsersUSERNAMEAppDataRoamingMozillaFirefoxProfilesdefaultsearchplugins
While I can edit the file, firefox will not recognize the changes that I made to the file. I tried to start my editor with administrative privileges, but this didn't help. I had the same problem before, with a file that was located in the programs folder. I was able to change it, but the program didn't recognize the changes.
Windows 7 has this neat feature where I can navigate into a compressed (zip) file from Windows Explorer. The icon appears like a folder with a zipper through it & I can just navitage.I can't edit a file in the zip folder directly. I have to first copy it out of the zip, edit it, then copy back into the zip. What am I missing here? If I can overwrite a file why not just allow me to edit it?

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently my music files [it might be with other types of files too, I haven't checked] have somehow changed the security setting so that I can't do anything with them, I can't edit the info in iTunes and I can't delete the files. About the only thing I can do is move the file. I have figured out how to fix this problem one by one with each file (going into properties, security tab, and changing the permissions), however, I've only been able to do this one by one and with each new file the same problem persists. Is there any way I can change some sort of setting or something that allows me to have full control over all files? I am the sole user of the computer, therefore I am the administrator.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI got a new laptop but it has windows 7. 1 of the extremely huge problems this operating system has is this absurd thing where you cant arrange your own files in the order that you want.Im not gna waste my time ranting on here as it wont make any difference, but it does astound me that microsoft would employ such thickos who were unable to create an OS that was capable of offering such a basic function! i followed the (this) registry-edit steps lastnight to enable free-positioning of my files (unawave. de/windows-7-tipps/disable-sorting-auto-arrange.html?lang=EN).I did it lastnight and it worked perfectly!I then turned my laptop off as it needed to install its daily updates, but when i restarted it i can no longer move my files around in my pictures/videos/or my music folders!Photo/video files in other folders can still be moved around freely, however as all my pictures and videos are saved by default into those 2 folders this causes me a huge problem!

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently obtained a number of large video files. They have several different file types (file extensions). Among those types are:
.AVI .MKV .MPG .MPE .MP4 .WMV
There are other types as well.I'd very much like to perform some simple editing on these files. The most common editing operation is to extract or "split" a large file into several smaller component files. In other words, each of thse large files contain several small files - all strung together. For example, there may be 4 or 5 video clips in each file. Instead of creating one file for each "clip", the person who created these files just concatenated them all together in one file. So, I'd like to "split" each of these clips out of the single file and create a number of separate files - one for each clip.In addition, I would very much like to be able to convert files of one type to another type.I don't know a lot about the attributes of the various file types. I've read about them in Wikipedia and so I know a lttle about the reasons these file types were created and what the various differences are among them. The main reason that I'd like to convert most of these files to a single file type is that I consider it kind of sloppy to leave these files in there original file types.I have used the app Irfanview in the past to perform similar conversions on "still" files such as .JPEG or .GIF files.
1) How easy or difficult is it to convert video files from one type to another?
2) Should I expect to find one app that can do both editing and conversions? Or should I expect to get several different apps - some to convert files and some to edit files?
When I am in my program folders there Is no options menu as I said in the title.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm really hoping I find an answer to this question besides the one I've found on the internet a hundred times over (That's not a good idea, you shouldn't do it).
My question is: Is there a way to allow a user to create/edit files in the C drive (system drive), and in the Program Files contained there? Let's assume that this user is not only a local admin, but a domain admin as well.
The reason for this is I work for a company that does a lot of editing within these areas of Windows. We need to be able to create and edit files where they are stored. I know one way around we've found is to copy the item out of the folder, edit it, and put it back, but this is a pain in the butt.
I also know that most program need to "run as admin", so that's not the problem either. I've given this user every right and permission in the Security tab of the C drive, and had it propagate down through all files, folders, and sub-folders, and still I'm hit with an error that says "Access is Denied" or another one saying that I don't have the right privileges.
Please, if anyone knows how to change this in 7 it would be much appreciated. I know that this worked in XP, and I'm not looking for someone to tell me "this is a bad idea so don't do it", or "maybe it didn't work right in XP". I have seen enough of these.
UPDATE: I have been playing around with saving office and wordpad documents into the C drive, and into the Program files. It seems that I'm able to do both now (for some odd reason), but I still receive intermittent errors when trying to edit or copy/paste or cut/paste from one location to another.
I wonder if on Windows 7 64 bit they did away with the venerable old DOS edit.com or edit.exe (I forget if it was ever an exe file, seems like it was). I know it was there in Windows 7 32 bit.I can't find it anywhere on my new HP dv7 laptop. I can use textpad I guess but for quick and dirty editing of a new file, I found edit to be perfect.

I know about MSCONFIG.
the problem is, when you use MSCONFIG to deselect programs from starting up, you force your computer into "Safemode".
I once used a ms command that allowed me to disable enable all programs that start up with windows, other than MSCONFIG.
It did not force my windows into Safemode.
which command is it that allows you to disable programs from starting up with windows,
BESIDES MSCONFIG ? anyone know.?

I manually wrote 2 DNS adresses, some time ago.
Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter
TCP/IPV4
212.242.40.3
212.242.40.51
-for getting access to a wireless router at the office.
Since then, I haven't been able to delete them, thus not being able to connect to any other wireless networks.
When I try to put in "use automatic DNS server address", then click "ok", it ask me to reboot. -whether I reboot or not, the settings have reverted to the ones above, when I click back in.
If I put in other DNS adresses, it also revertes. If I click on "advanced" and delete the DNS settings / creates new ones (208.67.222.222 / 208.67.220.220), it also revertes (whether I reboot or not).
I have a 150GB FAT32 External Hard Disk which shows up as 'Local Disk (J:)' in My Computer. I right-clicked it, and renamed it to 'T4 (J:)' but it still shows up as 'Local Disk (J:)'! I tried various names but still it shows up as 'Local Disk (J:)' in My Computer. So I went to 'Disk Management' to try and change the label from there and, what do you know, Disk Partition (J:) shows 'T4 (J:)'It turns out that this could be an 'autorun.inf' problem. I think that the 'autorun.inf' of my ext-HDD has a parameter like 'label=Local Disk' or something similar. But now, the problem is that I can't access 'autorun.inf' at all. No rename, no delete, no edit. I tried changing it's attributes from an elevated command prompt but still no luck. No matter what I try, in the end I get an 'Access is Denied' error. All I want is for my ext-HDD to be labeled as 'T4 (J:)' in My Computer.
