View 1 Repliesis it possible to edit Ctrl+Alt+Del screen "links" and its position?
I would like to add for example "Shut down", "Restart" instead of "Lock this computer", "Switch user", and would like to move it to the right:
MS paint preview
If that is impossible, then maybe it is possible to get rid of Ctrl+Alt+Del screen at all and instead of it, like in windows xp, would appear task manager?
I wonder if on Windows 7 64 bit they did away with the venerable old DOS edit.com or edit.exe (I forget if it was ever an exe file, seems like it was). I know it was there in Windows 7 32 bit.I can't find it anywhere on my new HP dv7 laptop. I can use textpad I guess but for quick and dirty editing of a new file, I found edit to be perfect.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI send in cricket match reports to our local paper. Last season I had an XP machine and I used to copy and paste the scoresheets from our website into Word. Here's a typical scoresheetI used to copy the scoresheet and paste it into Word, edit it and send it off as part of the report. The newspaper could also copy and paste it at their end. Fine. Now I have a Win 7 machine and, I may be incorrectly blaming this on the OS, I can copy the scoresheet into Word but I get an uneditable block, looking only vaguely like the scoresheet I copied.I imagine that there is just some "tick" I haven't put in a box somewhere but it would make a massive difference if I could find that box.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have found a file named 'Card_content.xml' in my Nokia Memory Card (Fat Volume). When I try to open it with Notepad, it shows 'Access Denied'. I can not open, rename, copy, move, delete this file. I can see the content of this file using 'DiskInternals Linux Reader'. The Properties Dialog shows that this file has an attribute 'RHAX'. R - Read-only, H - Hidden, A - Archive, But what the 'X' denotes for. Please note that Properties Dialog does not have any column named 'Owner'. I am not able to change its attribute using CMD, CHMOD (coreutils) and other utilities. What the 'X' denotes for? How can I set or edit 'X' attribute of a file?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI know about MSCONFIG.
the problem is, when you use MSCONFIG to deselect programs from starting up, you force your computer into "Safemode".
I once used a ms command that allowed me to disable enable all programs that start up with windows, other than MSCONFIG.
It did not force my windows into Safemode.
which command is it that allows you to disable programs from starting up with windows,
BESIDES MSCONFIG ? anyone know.?
I posted a query in the Crashes and Debugging section, but I want to change the header text, as it seems to be scaring people away. I am able to edit the main text of the thread but not the header itself. Does anybody know how I can do this?

I manually wrote 2 DNS adresses, some time ago.
Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter
TCP/IPV4
212.242.40.3
212.242.40.51
-for getting access to a wireless router at the office.
Since then, I haven't been able to delete them, thus not being able to connect to any other wireless networks.
When I try to put in "use automatic DNS server address", then click "ok", it ask me to reboot. -whether I reboot or not, the settings have reverted to the ones above, when I click back in.
If I put in other DNS adresses, it also revertes. If I click on "advanced" and delete the DNS settings / creates new ones (208.67.222.222 / 208.67.220.220), it also revertes (whether I reboot or not).
I have a 150GB FAT32 External Hard Disk which shows up as 'Local Disk (J:)' in My Computer. I right-clicked it, and renamed it to 'T4 (J:)' but it still shows up as 'Local Disk (J:)'! I tried various names but still it shows up as 'Local Disk (J:)' in My Computer. So I went to 'Disk Management' to try and change the label from there and, what do you know, Disk Partition (J:) shows 'T4 (J:)'It turns out that this could be an 'autorun.inf' problem. I think that the 'autorun.inf' of my ext-HDD has a parameter like 'label=Local Disk' or something similar. But now, the problem is that I can't access 'autorun.inf' at all. No rename, no delete, no edit. I tried changing it's attributes from an elevated command prompt but still no luck. No matter what I try, in the end I get an 'Access is Denied' error. All I want is for my ext-HDD to be labeled as 'T4 (J:)' in My Computer.
View 7 Replies View RelatedHave deleted files, registry keys etc., but still it pops up on opening Firefox. It does not, however, show when using IE [which I do not use generally but did so as a test]. The only place I have found any reference to this abysmal virus is in the clr.lst file and I am not sure if it is permissible or wise to delete the file or even to edit it since I am not sure of it's purpose.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm using Firefox browser.I like the "autocomplete" which routinely fills in user name and password, but recently ran into a problem - on a rarely-used but important site (Doctor's surgery) I forgot my user name and password.Retrieved user name from surgery (which hasn't changed), BUT they gave me a temporary password
Logged in - autocomplete filled it in after first character entered, as was a password BUT it isn't the "right" password - I now have to over-ride it every log-in.So - how does one edit the stored password for this site, alternatively, delete the whole existing entry and let it offer to remember it from new?
I have an ATi Radeon 2600XT and I am running Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 64 bit.
When I go to hardware acceleration (Display > Resolution > Advanced - not sure of the exact steps but been there several times), the "Troubleshoot" button, from where the hardware acceleration settings can be modified, is greyed out.
This is a common problem it seems, but I cannot solve this. I am running the latest CCC drivers from ATi.
To make things even more confusing, I used to run VMWare Workstation 6.5 and Windows Server 2008 R2. I could happily adjust the hardware acceleration setttings (had not updated the ATi drivers but VMWare uses its own display drivers). I then got VMWare Workstation 7.0 and I could not adjust hardware acceleration.
Any ideas how I can resolve this?
my OS is windows 7 sp1 x64, and I have the following problem:
I wanted to edit an XML file in the folder C:UsersUSERNAMEAppDataRoamingMozillaFirefoxProfilesdefaultsearchplugins
While I can edit the file, firefox will not recognize the changes that I made to the file. I tried to start my editor with administrative privileges, but this didn't help. I had the same problem before, with a file that was located in the programs folder. I was able to change it, but the program didn't recognize the changes.
