View 1 Replies View RelatedAll I want is to create a password when I use my laptop (Windows 7 preinstalled, Toshiba Satellite), as I used to do on my XP laptop.I've tried to set a paassword for the Administrator Account but I get the message: ''You are creating a password for ---. If you do this, you will lose all EFS-encrypted files, personal certificates and network resources. To avoid losing data in the future, ask user to make a password reset floppy disk.''I have no idea what this means. Does this mean that I have to make a rest disc before I create a password??I'm the only user of my laptop and don't need to create a user account but I did to see if I can create a password. But I got the same message again for the user account.

I'm trying to learn a little about how Win 7 works...so I'm starting from scratch, so-to-speak.What I've done thus far & what info I am seeking:I've looked at all the tutorials I can find here on the BC site and even tried typing a query in the search box, but have been unable to find any instructions which explain how to create a password for the Windows 7 default Administrator account (or even a separately-created Administrator account).(The tutorials I have already reviewed indicate the Win 7 default Administrator account is by default...disabled (on a new computer, I'm guessing), and after going through the multi-step process of enabling the Admin account, it is recommended the user secure the account with a strong password).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure which section of the forum to post this. For some reason in Windows 7 RC1 (build 7100) I don't have the option to create a new folder in the root of one mapped domain network drive. What's weird is that with all of my other network drives I can, and I can make new folders in subfolders of the drive I'm having problems with. I just can't in the root of that one drive. The account I'm logged in with does have full control of the folder the drive maps to. I've checked with another member on our domain that is running the same RC1 and he doesn't have this problem.

View 3 Replies View RelatedHere's the scenario: I have a 1TB disk with several partitions on it.
#1: Primary partition with Vista on it.
#2: A 500GB primary partition used as storage/backup.
#3: A 50GB partition encrypted with Truecrypt, Logical drive
Now, I want to create a new Primary partition at the end of the drive, so I can install another copy of Windows 7. Notice my 500GB storage partition does not need to be Primary, but it is, and I cannot create any more Primary partitions. How can I change the storage partition to a logical drive, and have my new partition be Primary?

The problem is that my machine doesn't boot from the USB drive. Anyway, I've tried with a 32 bit version of Windows 7 on my USB drive. This works well, but not with a 64 bit version. Why it doesn't work? Just to be on the safe side, I've tested it several times with other USB drives and followd thoroughly the instructions(diskpart).
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a External PVR unit that is connected to our home Theatre system and we watch downloaded movies that are stored on it's hard-drive.. This box is also connected via UPNP and I can see ALL Drives attached to my laptop which is located upstairs in the study...I was able to, from the computer, map this drive (N Drive) and was able to copy the movies files directly to the hard-drive of the PVR.Until recently, I was able to create new folders on the PVR hard-drive and then copy the files, but am no longer able to do so as I keep getting an error msg stating:"Could not create new file N:Moviesxxxxxx. The system cannot find the file specified"I can however copy the movie files or any other files directly to the hard-drive (ANY FOLDER).. Just cannot create any new folders!!!! Which I was able to do previously.?

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy son is running Windows 7 Pro on a sad little 1 Gb RAM PC 3.4 GHz and of course it is somewhat underpowered and the PC is badly in need of a formatiing anyway..Problem is I can't get to a Format command anywhere??????I can get into BIOS OK, set the DVD as first boot option but when I save it (F10) and then it reboots, the screen always comes up with the "Start Windows Normally" option! I can reach the "boot from any CD/DVD option but for some weird option the arrows on the keyboard will not alow me to move away from this latter choice yet the board works fins with everything else.I can't get it to boot from the original Win 7 CD, Windows Vista or even Pro OS's ................ so of course again cannot get to the format command.I have created a System Recovery Disc but I am not 110% sure how to use this disc but nonetheless cannot seem to find an option for formatting there anyway.
