How Can Share Documents With Another Users On The Same Computer
Feb 26, 2012
I have set up a wedding budget using microsoft office however I can not figure out how to share it. I want it to update when I input costs so that when I am logged on or my partner is logged into his profile the document is the same. If he inputs a cost on his profile I want to be able to see it updated on my profile.
We are using the same computer.

I have 2 users defined to my W7 computer, lets say Jack (administrator) and Jill (normal user). Both users have had their "My Documents" moved to a second disk drive E: as "Jack's Documents" and "Jill's Documents".
Recently (I first noticed it on 26th August) both users started to see two "My Documents" folders on the E: drive in Windows Explorer. One contains Jack's files and folders, the other Jill's files and folders. I'm sure (but have no proof) that Jack used to see "My Documents" and "Jill's Documents", and Jill used to see "My Documents" and "Jack's Documents".
I've searched for information about this problem but can only find examples for duplicate "My Documents" folders for a single user.

There's something very basic about "sharing" that I'm misunderstanding. Does the term "sharing" mean sharing with other computers on the network?
If so, then how do you share folders with another user on the same computer? Here's an example: Each of my sons has a Standard user account on the same computer. So 'A' can't access 'B's files, and 'B' can't access 'A's files. They want to be able to share certain folders, like pictures and music.
They could simply copy folders they want to share to the Public user folder, but that's not a practical solution. How do users on the same computer share files and folders? Is it possible to put restrictions on sharing ('B' can view some of 'A's photos, but he can't edit them, etc.)? There's got to be an easier way than fiddling with access permissions, which often ends up with unintended consequences.

I have a new Samsung laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium and an older desktop with XP running in it. I have a Servioo(same as Samsung file share) program running in my desktop XP which allows me to view my vid/music/photos through my Samsung BR player.I can now view my documents from my new laptop back through Servioo and on the BR player. However I cannot see anything on my laptop from my XP desktop...it shows my Servioo program but it is unable to view anything. I'm trying to view it through the Windows Media Player. Is there a way to do it? I just can't get the "door" to open. sunlaker has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.

How can I make a Word document that was saved by a guest user available to all users? Its an interesting family history written by my aging mother. My daughter had to use my laptop while hers was in repair - she loggind in as a guest and saved the word document from an email. I can switch to the guest user and see it there, but I would like to access it from my user account. I am using Windows 7 and Office 2007.
I have fiddled with the document properties, but that didn't help. The document only shows up in libraries if I am logged in as guest.
Microsoft web site has instructions for using a "public" folder, but I don't see one on my computer, and they don't say how to create a public folder or how to move an exisiting document into the public folder.
It doesn't seem like "file sharing" is what I want, because only the one computer is involved. Am I right about that?

I am a student and looking for a way to share my documents across various devices.
Asus android tablet
Android phone
Windows 7 laptop
Windows 8 desktop
Mac
I have heard of various software that do this like google docs, dropbox, safe sync from trend micro, skydrive and similar ones. But my problem is that they dont update the documents, for ex: I update it on word form one pc, but it doesn't get update online so when I have to resync everything, drag and drop would be nice and if it came with conforence calling it would be better. I don't need anything "secure" from antivirus companies becasue its just school HW and documents. What would be the best software for this?

Kaspersky tells me there is a 2 viruses in my Document and Settings and I have tried there and in USERS/All users, etc and it to is ACCESS IS DENIED and I want to confirm that Kaspersky DID delete all traces of that virus.
HOW do I get this get to these folder to check? Ask my mother or my priest for permission to access my own computer that i bought and paid for. Of course I am misguided as i believe that I should have access to my own computer.
But don't want to get started on my rant about Microsoft 7 and "permissions" and "access" to my computers. the ole "pay us but don't expect any access"
anyone know how to get around this madness?

I was looking into how to make this happen and I am running into some problems. What I want to do is basically run my main OS on the first screen and maximize vmware with my other windows 7 os on the second screen.I have two sets of keyboards and two sets of mice, windows 7 is ready to roll on both my computer and my vmware, I just need to find a way to isolate the keyboard commands to just the vmware on the one set, and just my machine on my OS.From what I've looked up, this can be done. I have a decent amount of knowledge in vmware and computers, but I was hoping someone here could fill me in if they knew how to do this, because the only "walkthrough" I could find is for vmware 6.5 and vista, and I don't think it applies to what I'm doing on version 7.1. I need to be able to have two users on my computer at the same time, at my disposal.

Many of my documents that I copied over to my new computer from my old one (which I still have and runs Vista) were written on Microsoft Works & have the file association WSP . As Win 7 doesnt come with this older program, short of going back to my old computer & converting them to a program I can download onto both (which would be very time consuming to say the least) is there some way to either convert them to a file association that a program on Win 7 can open or download a program that could open them?

My computer in question is a Toshiba L455-S5980 running Windows 7
Home Premium.
I have a wireless network with a Linksys WRT160N router connected to a
Sony desktop running XP MCE(2005). In addition, I have another Toshiba
laptop running XP Home Edition.
With the new Windows 7 laptop in the Network I can see all 3 computers, as well
as access files sharing in both the XP computers. However, I cannot access any of
the Win 7 files from the XP computers.
When I go to Network and click on Win 7 name it shows two folders as being shared. Even though one folder indicates "Share" when I Right click on it and go to "Share with" it has a lock icon beside "Nobody" and I cannot change it to Homegroup Read/Write etc. The other folder "Share with" Advanced sharing and I do not know what further to do in ths regards.
The XP computers Workgroup name is MSHOME; however the Win 7 laptop was
named WORKGROUP by default, but I changed this name to MHOME where all 3
computers now have the same Workgroup name, If anyone can assist me in establishing file sharing of the Win 7 .

I have lowered the encryption and allowed windows to activly look for networks which it does well but it will only do this for a short period of time. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem? Like I said the network will apper and I do have access to it on occassion but then disappers and will not return.

I have windows 7 and when I purchased it I had no clue about computer share and logging into your own computer.I didn't realize if I had a computer you would have to have permission to access your files. Now that I am stuck with windows 7 and I don't have permission to access files such as Documents and Settings (the little gold lock) I want a computer that is MINE alone and I don't have to ask permission to do anything.I have been through all the steps as Administrator, system recovery, reinstalling windows and I am always locked out of system? files. The first 2 steps setting up the system is country/language, which is understandable then Name and Password. What do I need to skip Name and Password, not being or sharing with any users or owner or administrator. Just turn on my computer, it opens to the desktop and go to work.Is there any way to have this luxury? I think it is called a standalone PC? It doesn't look like any of the windows 7 can be like this so what can I do without buying a new computer or is that not an option??

I am thinking of upgrading our family's two computer systems, which are about 8 years old. To build/buy a decent computer will cost about $500. Could be done a bit cheaper, but then two computers will double the priceSo, I was thinking. Most modern computers have multiple output video cards. Most computers have multiple USB ports. Would it be possible to plug two keyboards, two mice, and two monitors into one computer and have two people using that computer simultaneously? This should work just fine from a hardware perspective. With USB hubs and multiple video cards, maybe 4 or more people could use the same computer simultaneously. I would like to do this on Windows 7.I come from a UNIX background and this sort of thing is done all the time on UNIX systems, either text mode or graphics mode. The available hardware is very ripe for this type of usage. Its easy to get multiple monitors and multiple keyboard/mouse connected to a computer. Even multiple sound cards. CPUs are powerful and multi-core. Memory is cheap and plentiful. I think this would be a very good use of multi-core CPU

My father bought a new computer a few weeks ago and I copied his documents (mostly word and excel) onto his new system, I had a phone call from his this evening saying he is unable to edit some word documents because of them being "secured and from an unrecognizable source". There must be a (policy) setting in Office 2010, Windows 7 or Avast I need to change to allow all of his documents to be editable I gather, if so where is it?

It is easy to share a folder with Everyone, or to share it with other user accounts on the same computer, but how can I share a folder with a specific user account on ANOTHER computer in the workgroup?Reason: in my neighborhood, four friends are connected by cable to the same router, and we all belong to the same workgroup. Each computer has a folder (named "public") that we share with everyone else, but I also want to have another folder (named "private") that I can share with only other computers in my apartment, but not with my friends (on other apartments). How can I do this?

Main computer is the office computer. Its a desktop that a person is constantly on and doing stuff. There are 3 others that need the same information and documents at any given time. These 3 people have their laptops that are constantly switching wifi hotspots. They need to change information sometimes, and need access to all of it any time. The way its setup now is 1 person is on the main computer, but when one of the three need to access it, they remotely log in and take control. Only one person can access the computer at a time. How do I set it up so all four of these people can access and change the files at the same time if they want? The main computer is being used constantly, but someone always needs a document or file while the main person is working on it. So it slows production when someone logs in.

I took out my Windows 7 boot drive and put it inside of a USB enclosure and when I try and go to my profile, I can't open Users folder on other computer. I don't have an administrator account on this other computer. Is there any way to open up the folder? It just says access denied when I try and open it up on a windows xp computer with no ADMIN privileges (I can't get admin on this computer).
On a XP computer that has admin it opens fine. I figured since I actually wasn't using the OS that was on the drive I wouldn't have any trouble reading any folders on it (but I guess that because it's NTFS there are more security measures, unlike FAT32 which would let anybody read anything). Would I just need to open up the folder on a computer with admin and then copy the things over while I still have admin.

I just installed a new 64 gig SSD in my computer. I also have a 2T secondary hard drive. The SSD is not big enough to contain all the stuff that will eventually be in "My documents",i.e. under "users" so I need to move the users directory to my secondary hard drive but havewindows behave as it were in its original location.I did some research and found the following technique which seemed plausible (and several people said it worked for them)
1. Install windows normally.
2. After install, boot from installation disk.
3. Get into the command prompt by clicking "repair".
4. Use robocopy to copy c:users to d:users. The command line should be: robocopy c:users d:users /mir /xj /copyall
5. Verify all files copied successfully.
6. Delete c:users. Command line should be: rmdir /s /q c:users
7. Delete c:documents and settings. Command line should be: rmdir "c:documents and settings"
8. Create junction to new users directory. Command line should be: mklink /j c:users d:users
9. Create junction for the old "documents and settings". Command line should be: mkdir /j "c:documents and settings" d:users
10. Restart computer.
Note:When in recovery mode the disk drives end up with different drive letters than what the normally have.Consequently my SSD drive which is "C" became "E" and my hard drive which is "D" became "C". Confusing, but I adjusted the above commands to reflect this. All seemed to go well until I rebooted. The computer booted up fine, but when I entered my password to log in windows complained that it could not find my profile. Since I could not log in at all I was forced to re-install windows. Supposedly, this is doable and I NEED to do it asap as my SSD will not hold all the stuff that will eventually be in "users".

I am cleaning a laptop out and i created a brand new user name. I deleted the other 2 users using the control passwords2.
So the machine starts and i select the user. Process usage is very high and it says 50, but actual user shows about 9. I click show processes from all users and i find the culprit as well as 50 processes. I deleted the users so there shouldnt be that option.
Why is there more processes if this is the only user, why does it even have the option?
