When I try to add a web page to my favorites in IE8, the browser crashes. I get a popup saying that Internet Explorer has stopped working, and that Windows can check online for a solution to the problem. Clicking on Check online for a solution and close the program just makes the same popup come up again.
View 9 Repliesi've had this problem of google chrome at times crashing. once it does it that first time, it will continually crash if i try to open it about 3-4 times and then bsod my computer. it only happened once i think in january, and then went about 2-3 weeks without issue. recently, though, it started happening again. after the first crash of chrome nowadays, i get this weird 'right-click menu ghost,' where the first item i select after a right click will stay on my screen above any other window (but it will not do this if chrome hasn't crashed). i tried going around the issue and just use firefox instead, but firefox seems to be giving me weird flash-related crashes (i think). i'm not sure what is causing the chrome crashes, though. the same pages that crash firefox once will crash it again, but not always the case with chrome, so. firefox crashes also won't bsod my computer from what i notice.
i've run the memory diagnostic that windows 7 has and it doesn't seem to be a memory problem. i've done whatever spyware/malware/virus scans i know of (which, admittedly, isn't much) and it doesn't seem to come up with anything either. i'm at my limit of things i can try by myself...
edit: not sure if this has been the pattern the whole time, but the past two initial chrome crashes had an antecedent something like this:tab 1 contains a Internet video playing, and is the inactive tab. tab 2 contains an embedded (not sure if this part is relevant, but may as well add it) Internet video. i click on it to get it to start playing, and while it's loading, immediately switch back to tab 1 and pause my other video. chrome freezes and crashes, and from thereon will crash if you try to restore the tabs. if you start a new session, it will crash in a few minutes even without any Internet videos.

no bsod, but often the machine becomes totally unresponsive, no mouse, no keyboard.
Internet is especially prone, will fail after about 20-30 mins of we browsing. the video begins to load and then stops and nothing happens. i sometimes get "website not repsonding" and after trying to quit it returns and works for a while, then locks up. all browsers (ie, firefox and chrome) when this happens, task manager becomes unresponsive and the machine will not shut down, often hanging on the "logoff" screen, sometimes hanging on "shutting down" screen.
if a total lock up happens, the only way out is to press the restart button. i've installed a new soundcard instead of the onboard sound (m-audio delta) and tried a different graphics card, the fault remains. i've run memcheck86 and no fault found. core temps are around 51 deg.
all drivers are up to date and i have today installed the 16bit flash upgrade. i've run uniblue registry booster and cleared some errors, but the problem remains.
i've ran a performance report, but nothing i can see wrong. the machine has no problems with my adobe master collection or playing local media (mp3. dvd etc). derek ps as i type this the font in this window is distorting in size somewhat.
heavy-handed cruising down my Favorites list accidentally drags an innocent Favorites folder inside of the folder above or below where the disappeared folder was. I confidently go to "Organize favorites" and pull up the list of favorites. Problem is: I can't just drop & drag a folder that's stuck inside of another folder. It just gets jerked back inside of the wrong folder. The stuck folder is forever stuck as it seems like all I am allowed to move are folders which are lined up neatly against the left margin of the list, not one that is hiding in the wrong place.

I imported some of these bookmarks/favorites from Firefox but not all of them have defaulted.
Is there a setting in Internet Options that allows these icons to be recognized and displayed in the favorites list?

View 1 Replies View RelatedPeriodically I have problems loading the Gmail inbox from an IE8 favorite, if using Gmail "standard view". Gmail "basic HTML" view doesn't have the problem. Likewise Firefox 3.5.5 nor Chrome 3.0.195.33 have the problem in either Gmail standard of basic view. IE8 version: 8.0.7600.16385. Happens with both 32-bit and 64-bit IE8.
Problem only happens if loading from an IE8 favorite, not if manually going to Gmail and logging in.
Typically the problem manifests as an indefinite wait while loading Gmail. However sometimes one of the following two errors happen:

When I open Explorer, Favorites is displayed at the top of the left column, as desired. However, not all of the folders I have designated for Favoriates is displayed in the left column. When I left click on the word "Favorites," then in the right column the entire list of Favorites folders does display. (Meaning:there's a list of nine folders on the right side, but back in the left column under Favorites only seven are displayed.)I've tried all of the solutions described above and none fixes this problem. If I try to drag a folder from Right to Left, two things happen: (A) A copy of that folder is created on the right side (so I'll see the original and a version with "(2)" after the name; and (B) on the left side, one of the folders that used to be in Favorites no longer displays.I don't know why a copy is made on the Right, but the action on the Left leads me to believe that somehow the left column Favorites is set to display no more than seven (7) items, but I can't find where to change that setting

However,the browser works fine, and unless i exit it,i cannot click on anywhere else but the browser or my computer hangs and everything stops responding,even the task manager.This problem occurs in google chrome as well as internet explorer,so i doubt it is a browser problem.I have never experienced such a problem with any system i have used so far,nor have i seen anyone experiencing it,so i am really confused as to what might be causing this.

I have gone online and searched and have came up with many ways people say they have gotten rid on it but none of there solutions have worked for m I read that it is malware and you should not leave it on your machine. I have ran my AVG and it does not detect it. I have deleted it from the all programs and done many things in the settings and set google as my default but to no avail it still comes up.
