Which Windows 7 Licenses
Nov 8, 2011The more I read the more I get confused. I am certain that I want Windows 7 Home Premium is all, and I need 3 licenses in the end.License 1: main build, 64bit, new computer, fresh install. Would like to be able to install on HDD for main OS, but also use under VM with Linux Mint (dual boot). Not sure if OEM allows this as it's tied to one machine.License 2: media buld, 64bit, budget new computer fresh install. Will dual boot with Linux Mint.Not sure if I want it tied to this machine for purposes of future upgrades, as it's a dead socket and may want to move the license to another computer when both are obsolete.License 3: eeePC, 32bit, OEM XP, upgrade to Win7; have run the Windows.exe to verify compatibility and it checks out.So... what 3 licenses do I need to satisfy the above?I really don't want to purchase a 64bit upgrade how-to DVD on accident (seems the marketing is purposefully misleading)- What OEM means, and if it affects installing and running in VM.Why there are 64bit and 32bit versions listed - Whether I can just choose on install between 32/64bit (implied in some places) or I have to get the right license up front - Where to buy (if allowed)...every time I think I've found a deal it's something else.- If a 3-pack of X would somehow work and be less expensive.Do I need more licenses to run VM copies... like will Windows detect other copies of itself in VMs or HDD on the same or other of my computers?But I really just need to know which 3 licenses to buy.

Jul 12, 2012A friend of mine is asking me to help him setup an internet cafe. I've heard of volume licenses for operating systems and other software. After 2 days frustration I'm here. I'm wanting to purchase volume licenses for windows 7 home and microsoft office 2010 for 8 pcs. I've been to microsoft licensewise tool and after 3 hours to get the tool to work, it's not available in my country. So I select the closest but it's showing that it'll cost me $60,000. Buying single units is less than this! So something is wrong, I can't find any help. Hopefully someone else has done something like this? Or is there another way?

Jul 21, 2011I don't know if anyone has had this issue, but sometimes I cannot click the "back" button or "file" or any other topbar icons either in IE9, chrome, also with office 2010. It is strange as when I restore to a smaller window then it works immediately, but as soon as I maximize it, it doesn't work.I have asus c90s laptop with win 7 32bit with aero on, I have some customized settings but I still don't know where is this coming from, it happens many times, and sometimes it just restores back to normal, also happens with my itunes, etc... basically any program maximized doesn't left/right click on any part of the topbar only if I restore the window to smaller size. Also it shows that when i try to click on the bar, it just goes transparent like I have chosen something from the back of the window

Dec 4, 2012This is my first post on tomshardware.com but I just want to say that I LOVE this website! I am on it all the time looking up reviews, and guides, and tips, and comparisons. I can't imagine that this isn't on the forums but couldn't seem to find it (sorry for repeat if so!). It's simple to describe - sometimes (not all the time) if I minimize, move, or close a window bits of it remain on screen cut off. It doesn't seem to be a specific program and it happens with the right-click menus too. Is this just a driver issue? That's the only thing I can think of.

Oct 12, 2011I just recently bought an HP Pavilion p6730f BV533AA#ABA Desktop PC - Intel Core i3-550 3.2GHz, 6GB DDR3, 1.5TB HDD, DVDRW, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Right out of the box it started acting a little touchy. I bought to get a project done for a client, so immediately I installed Adobe premiere cs5 along with a slew of other programs I use day to day. Within the first two days I noticed it would sometimes fail to open new programs after it had been left on for about a day. For example: lets say I go to open firefox, so I click on the firefox icon pinned to my taskbar. It glows, as if it is loading then fades. As if the computer forgot what my request was. I try clicking a few more times; same thing. So I go to the shortcut in my start menu, click it: same thing. the little circle appears next to my cursor for a moment, then the request is gone. Tried hotkeys; (windows button plus number position on taskbar) still nothing. I then try every program on the taskbar, each with the same results. (and giving proper time for the computer to think) Even simple programs like text editor will not open. To top it off, the shutdown process wont even initiate! At which point I have to hard-crash out to restart. After a fresh restart it works fine for a few days or so till this happens.

Feb 25, 2012how the left window reacts when I select a folder.
If I have a long list of folders in the left window and I click on the small arrow to the left of a folder, it is supposed to show the list of sub-folders that are in the selected folder.
It does but here is my problem. Lets say the folder that I select is in the middle of the left window. When I click on the small arrow, Windows Explorer shifts the folder list down so that the selected folder is near the bottom of the window. Generally I can only see one of the sub-folders. And then I have to use the slider to move the selected folder up so I can see more than one sub-folder.
I wish it would leave the folder where it was and show as many sub-folders as possible underneath the selected folder.
Windows 7 Moves (and Size Changes) Arbitrarily On Left Clicks?
May 30, 2012Windows 7 ... just installed a new Logitech K759 Solar keyboard and am using an 'old' Logitech M705 mouse via one Unified receiver (obviously both are wireless)Frequently, and unexpectedly, a full-screen window moves (and size is changed) when the mouse is left-clicked (also seems to occur when the cursor is moved with the mouse). When this happens, the window can't be closed by clicking on the 'red X' (in upper left corner) - the window will arbitrarily change back to full-screen but I cannot type or click on anything. Right clicking (on an 'empty' area) seems to 'freeze' the window in full-screen mode and I can continue typing.There isn't any other wireless transmitter (wireless phone etc) nearby (plus have never had this problem before) so interference doesn't seem to be problem.

Jun 22, 2009I run Windows 7 on two of machines. One runs flawlessly. The other ran flawlessly for about a month or two, and then I started getting a rather odd problem. The OS fails to recognize my (mostly) left mouse clicks for random periods of time, say 5 seconds to like 60 seconds. It'll work, then it'll stop, then it'll work... etc. Obviously this is extremely frustrating. Thinking it's the mouse, I tried another mouse - same problem.
Both mice are USB, but it does not seem to be an issue with the USB ports as my keyboard and other USB peripherals work fine. Running the C2D Extreme Quad core from a couple of years ago, X38 chipset board, 4870x2. I formatted and reinstalled the first time this problem came up, and it started again within a few hours of the reinstall. All I've got installed besides my drivers are:

Oct 3, 2011Recently, within the past three days or so, when I left click on something, it doesn't work. This can be resolved by right clicking on a blank spot in the program I am running. This has happened in Windows Explorer, Lord of the Rings Online, or even on the desktop. I have tried two different mice, re-installed the drivers for both, updated the video drivers.....everything I could think of short of using a restore point. The only software change has been the latest Windows updates. I am running Win7 Home Premium on a laptop. The two mice I have tried have been a MS mouse and a Logitech one.

Oct 7, 2012When I turn on the screen of my PC I get weird shapes all over the screen. Some of them are coloured, some are grey but they appear on all programmes, including a Word blank page and the desktop page. Some of them flash, some of them change shape, ut they are all pixel shaped within the boxes. There are also some strange 'squiggly' marks on the screen. When I opened Windows mail, the left hand side of the screen was completely black and it didn't show any of my messages. As I'm typing this message, I've got grey boxes which change shape as I type and it's covering some of the text.
