Home To 7 Upgrade - 0x80070001

Dec 8, 2009

I recnelty built my own pc and installed a legit windows xp home, I also bought windows 7 pro 64bit upgrade version, to replace the current windows xp home 32bit.

I bought the upgrade from software4students.com, I 1st tried to do a clean install but i got this error message "0x80070001" So i tried to custom install, all was going well until it reached the "expanding files" stage, it was stuck on 0% then came up with the error message 0x80070001, My pc rebooted and i found that my OS was unable to run as there was a system32.dll file missing,

I removed the home OS, and reinstalled it, tried upgrading again, but ocne again it failed!

Does anyone know what the problem is?

My pc specs are

AMD Athlon II 3x3ghz

4gb ram DDr3

256mb DDR3 Nivida

boistar mobo TA770e3

Thanks.

Home Or Pro Upgrade

Jun 26, 2009

I've been running Win 7 rc1 (7100) ever since it came out.

Should I buy Win 7 Pro or Win 7 Home upgrade?

Which version would you buy?

I have Vista Ultimate, but that was a joke and a waste.

Also, when I buy the upgrade, can I install on top of rc1, or do I have to clean install 7 and have a valid number for Vista?

Upgrade From XP 64 To W7 Home

Nov 21, 2009

I am running xp 64 and have an upgrade disc for windows 7 32bit home premium. I know from previous tries that xp 32 will not install over xp 64 without a complete format of the hard drive. I was just wondering if 7 32 bit has the same issue. I do also know that 7 upgrade discs will allow a clean install as long as a previous version of xp or vista is recognized. Just wondering if anyone has tried this or had any issues or success?

Cant Upgrade From Home To Pro

Nov 27, 2009

I initially purchased and installed Home Premium on my machine. I then found an issue due to running files on a work PC that I am connected to with a VPN. So, my network admin sent me our corporate copy of Win 7 Pro to install.

When I try to install it I get stopped during the process and I am told to use the Windows Anytime Upgrade. When I search and run the app it asks me to supply an Anytime Upgrade serial number or go online to buy an Anytime Upgrade. To upgrade to the Pro version it's like $85.

Can't I just run the install and have it install what I need to make it a Pro version without having to do a clean install? How can I upgrade? When I had XP home a long time ago I was able to upgrade to Pro by just installing Pro on top of it.

The serial numbers of the two versions are different because I had originally purchased and did a clean install with the Home version and then I got a new DVD and serial number for my works Pro version.

I am hoping it will offer an upgrade option take the new license and go ahead and install the additional features, leaving everything else (existing software, data, etc) neatly intact. But any advise regarding this would be gratefully received by the Windows 7 newbie.

Windows 7 Upgrade From Home To Pro

Jun 22, 2010

I've just gotten a new computer with Windows 7 Home edition initially installed. I haven't activated it yet, seeing as I've not purchased the key as yet. There's a store that is selling a Windows 7 Pro Upgrade cheaply, and I am planning on purchasing that. My questions are:

1) Is it possible to upgrade from Home to Pro?

2) What sort of repercussions will occur? (As in losing of files etc) I only ask so that I don't start installing everything and then losing everything again.

3) If I do have to do a clean install, will it affect the hard drives other than the one that had the OS on?

I went to Windows anytime upgrade, typed in the product key, it was accepted everything was going smoothly then it comes up says it will be about ten minutes which is fine. Three or four minutes later it comes up and says the upgrade wasn't successful please try the upgrade again. When it is tried again it does the same thing.

Cant Upgrade From Vista Home Premium To 7 Home Premium

Oct 22, 2009

I successfully bought the upgrade version of Windows 7 Home Premium N, downloaded and extracted it and now I want to install it.

When I choose UPDATE in the intallation dialog it tells me that I cannot upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium ???

Every website from Windows and other people tells me that it IS possible and even the Windows 7 Update Advisor told me that I should not encounter any problems upgrading.

Has anyone of you yet encountered upgrading problems of compatible Vista/7 versions?

Or any other idea what I can do to solve the problem?!

I know that I can make a clean intall of 7, but this would be a pain..

I want to know:
1) How can I upgrade to 64 bit Home Basic

2) How can I know/ get the PRODUCT KEY of my pre-installed 32 bit Home Basic

3) Do I need to pay extra amount if I upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit (as, I have heard that if I purchase, I will get 32 and 64 bit OS in a single pack only)

Upgrade From 7100 To Home Premium

Sep 20, 2009

I'm currently running Win 7 Build 7100. I plan on purchasing Home Premium. My computer was originally running Vista Basic. I did a clean install of the beta (no partition, Vista is gone). Can I purchase the upgrade copy or do I need to purchase the copy for new computers? Will I need to put Vista Basic back on my computer if I want to use an upgrade copy? If I can upgrade directly from the beta, is it best to do a clean install? I'm a little confused as to how this process is going to work.

Upgrade From Vista Home Premium

Oct 28, 2009

It said it couldn't upgrade from my Vista Home Premium and had to do a custom install clean on top of Vista. I have not gone any farther than to see the installation finished and I see that it saved my Vista files in Windows.old.

I sure thought Win & would upgrade from Vista. Now I have to reinstall all my apps again. And if I'm going to do that anyway I might just as well install the 64 bit version instead of the 32 bit I installed.

Is this best?

I have MS Office 2007 as well to reinstall. Does it work under 64 bit Win 7?

Is this what others have seen?

Upgrade Win 7 Home Premium To Win7 Pro On DVD

Nov 28, 2009

I have Win 7 Home premium installed and activated.(it came on the computer) The non profit that I do work for allows us to buy the Win 7 Pro upgrade DVD for almost nothing so I did. When I try to upgrade from within Windows, it tells me that I need to use Windows anytime upgrade. When I attempt to use it, and type in the provided 25 digit license, it takes it, starts the upgrade, and then tells me that the license number is valid, but not for anytime upgrade.

When I try and boot directly from the DVD with the system BIOS set for DVD as 1st boot item, it skips right past the DVD and boots from the hard drive.

Is there anyway to do this upgrade from the DVD, or is it only good if I do a complete re install?

Win 7 Home Prem (64) UPGRADE To Win7 Pro (64)

Dec 10, 2009

I emailed Microsoft support this question and got a useless answer back; they just sent me a link to download the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, which basically told me what I already knew (that my system is capable of running Windows 7).

So I called them just now and the so-called "tech support" person wasn't much of a help either, she didn't seem too bright and didn't know much about the whole upgrade process, giving me conflicting information. So, I hope someone on here can answer this for me.

I recently bought a new laptop that came pre-installed with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Then I found out that Home Premium does not have "XP Mode" capability, so I used the Student Discount offer to buy Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (full version not upgrade) from Microsoft's website for $29.99 (what a bargain!). Can anyone tell me FOR SURE, whether I can do just an upgrade (where all my manufacturer's pre-installed applications, drivers, and all my currently installed applications and settings are preserved) or if I MUST do a clean install (reinstalling all of these applications, etc.)?

Upgrade From Vista SP1 64 Bit Home Premium To RC

May 6, 2009

I downloaded the 64bit release candidate yesterday and tried the upgrade from Vista Home Premium SP1 64bit. Everything checked out fine and the upgrade started... when the last stage is around 66% complete I get the message:

Werfault.exe application error, the instruction at 0x76B93892 reference memory at 0x00000000, the memory could not be read.

The installation program rolled back, which was very nice! I made a few changes and tried it another couple of times with the same result.

My system has an Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard, AMD 9850 X4 cpu, 4GB memory, EVGA GTX 295, two Maxtor hard drives - 300GB and 500GB, 2 DVD drives, etc.

Anyone have any suggestions other than a clean install? I had tried the Win 7 beta version with a clean install and that had installed but that was all I did with it.
