I initially purchased and installed Home Premium on my machine. I then found an issue due to running files on a work PC that I am connected to with a VPN. So, my network admin sent me our corporate copy of Win 7 Pro to install.
When I try to install it I get stopped during the process and I am told to use the Windows Anytime Upgrade. When I search and run the app it asks me to supply an Anytime Upgrade serial number or go online to buy an Anytime Upgrade. To upgrade to the Pro version it's like $85.
Can't I just run the install and have it install what I need to make it a Pro version without having to do a clean install? How can I upgrade? When I had XP home a long time ago I was able to upgrade to Pro by just installing Pro on top of it.
The serial numbers of the two versions are different because I had originally purchased and did a clean install with the Home version and then I got a new DVD and serial number for my works Pro version.
while installing 7 H.P. it gets to completing installation then freezes up after computer reboots a warning message appears stating windows 7 has failed to install and resume after reboot, and then the same warning message appears.
I tried the roll back installation option and a message flashes on and off to quickly to read. and Vista will not come up to start over.
I am running xp 64 and have an upgrade disc for windows 7 32bit home premium. I know from previous tries that xp 32 will not install over xp 64 without a complete format of the hard drive. I was just wondering if 7 32 bit has the same issue. I do also know that 7 upgrade discs will allow a clean install as long as a previous version of xp or vista is recognized. Just wondering if anyone has tried this or had any issues or success?
i have the upgrade for windows 7 home premium, a member of the household has recently brought a netbook which has windows 7 starter. I am wondering if i connect an external dvd drive to the netbook, if i can do an easy upgrade to home premium on this netbook?
I have purchased a laptop with Windows 7 Home, but I have a genuine dvd and license for Windows 7 Professional. I am looking for any tips, pointers or warnings before I go ahead and install Professional over Home.
I am hoping it will offer an upgrade option take the new license and go ahead and install the additional features, leaving everything else (existing software, data, etc) neatly intact. But any advise regarding this would be gratefully received by the Windows 7 newbie.
If I were to buy a new pc that had Windows 7 home on it. I have ultimate on my this computer and when I installed it on this computer I noticed that it asked me if I wanted to upgrade or to install a fresh copy...If I did not like the home version could use my ultimate disk to upgrade home to ultimate?
I recnelty built my own pc and installed a legit windows xp home, I also bought windows 7 pro 64bit upgrade version, to replace the current windows xp home 32bit.
I bought the upgrade from software4students.com, I 1st tried to do a clean install but i got this error message "0x80070001" So i tried to custom install, all was going well until it reached the "expanding files" stage, it was stuck on 0% then came up with the error message 0x80070001, My pc rebooted and i found that my OS was unable to run as there was a system32.dll file missing,
I removed the home OS, and reinstalled it, tried upgrading again, but ocne again it failed!
I've just gotten a new computer with Windows 7 Home edition initially installed. I haven't activated it yet, seeing as I've not purchased the key as yet. There's a store that is selling a Windows 7 Pro Upgrade cheaply, and I am planning on purchasing that. My questions are:
1) Is it possible to upgrade from Home to Pro?
2) What sort of repercussions will occur? (As in losing of files etc) I only ask so that I don't start installing everything and then losing everything again.
3) If I do have to do a clean install, will it affect the hard drives other than the one that had the OS on?
I am trying to upgrade two office computers from Windows 7 home edition to Windows 7 professional edition so we can connect them to the domain we have. I went to Windows anytime upgrade, typed in the product key, it was accepted everything was going smoothly then it comes up says it will be about ten minutes which is fine. Three or four minutes later it comes up and says the upgrade wasn't successful please try the upgrade again. When it is tried again it does the same thing.
I successfully bought the upgrade version of Windows 7 Home Premium N, downloaded and extracted it and now I want to install it.
When I choose UPDATE in the intallation dialog it tells me that I cannot upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium ???
Every website from Windows and other people tells me that it IS possible and even the Windows 7 Update Advisor told me that I should not encounter any problems upgrading.
Has anyone of you yet encountered upgrading problems of compatible Vista/7 versions?
Or any other idea what I can do to solve the problem?!
I know that I can make a clean intall of 7, but this would be a pain..
I have recently bought LENOVO Z560 with pre-installed 32-bit Windows 7 Home Basic.
I want to know: 1) How can I upgrade to 64 bit Home Basic
2) How can I know/ get the PRODUCT KEY of my pre-installed 32 bit Home Basic
3) Do I need to pay extra amount if I upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit (as, I have heard that if I purchase, I will get 32 and 64 bit OS in a single pack only)
4) Will my existing set of drivers work fine with 64 bit Home Basic. If not, from where can I get the drivers
I bought and downloaded about a year ago, Windows 7 Anytime Upgrade to install the new OS on a computer that was bought with a Vista system already installed. Now I have some problems with the computer and I'd like to perform a clean reinstallation of Windows 7.Is it possible to do so even if I only bought the Home Premium Upgrade version?Do I absolutely need the Home Premium Full version?I was thinking of downloading ISO images from the Microsoft Store and burning them to a DVD. Will that work if I only bought the Home Premium Upgrade version?
I have a win 7 home version installed on my laptop. I have the code for prof on the way. Can i start installing software already? before upgrading to win 7 prof? Or is it wise to wait until the key arrives?
i using windows 7 home premium x64 sp1, so want upgrade to Windows 7 ultimate x64 sp1..i just want to know what will happen to my installer and install driver on program file after upgrade windows.. do i need to reinstall new driver and software..Does upgrade process just only change version of windows..
I'm currently running Win 7 Build 7100. I plan on purchasing Home Premium. My computer was originally running Vista Basic. I did a clean install of the beta (no partition, Vista is gone). Can I purchase the upgrade copy or do I need to purchase the copy for new computers? Will I need to put Vista Basic back on my computer if I want to use an upgrade copy? If I can upgrade directly from the beta, is it best to do a clean install? I'm a little confused as to how this process is going to work.
I want to upgrade my Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 but my install CD is for Professional. Will my computer know what to do and just install the 7 Home Premium version?
It said it couldn't upgrade from my Vista Home Premium and had to do a custom install clean on top of Vista. I have not gone any farther than to see the installation finished and I see that it saved my Vista files in Windows.old.
I sure thought Win & would upgrade from Vista. Now I have to reinstall all my apps again. And if I'm going to do that anyway I might just as well install the 64 bit version instead of the 32 bit I installed.
Is this best?
I have MS Office 2007 as well to reinstall. Does it work under 64 bit Win 7?
I have Win 7 Home premium installed and activated.(it came on the computer) The non profit that I do work for allows us to buy the Win 7 Pro upgrade DVD for almost nothing so I did. When I try to upgrade from within Windows, it tells me that I need to use Windows anytime upgrade. When I attempt to use it, and type in the provided 25 digit license, it takes it, starts the upgrade, and then tells me that the license number is valid, but not for anytime upgrade.
When I try and boot directly from the DVD with the system BIOS set for DVD as 1st boot item, it skips right past the DVD and boots from the hard drive.
Is there anyway to do this upgrade from the DVD, or is it only good if I do a complete re install?
I emailed Microsoft support this question and got a useless answer back; they just sent me a link to download the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, which basically told me what I already knew (that my system is capable of running Windows 7).
So I called them just now and the so-called "tech support" person wasn't much of a help either, she didn't seem too bright and didn't know much about the whole upgrade process, giving me conflicting information. So, I hope someone on here can answer this for me.
I recently bought a new laptop that came pre-installed with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Then I found out that Home Premium does not have "XP Mode" capability, so I used the Student Discount offer to buy Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (full version not upgrade) from Microsoft's website for $29.99 (what a bargain!). Can anyone tell me FOR SURE, whether I can do just an upgrade (where all my manufacturer's pre-installed applications, drivers, and all my currently installed applications and settings are preserved) or if I MUST do a clean install (reinstalling all of these applications, etc.)?
I downloaded the 64bit release candidate yesterday and tried the upgrade from Vista Home Premium SP1 64bit. Everything checked out fine and the upgrade started... when the last stage is around 66% complete I get the message:
Werfault.exe application error, the instruction at 0x76B93892 reference memory at 0x00000000, the memory could not be read.
The installation program rolled back, which was very nice! I made a few changes and tried it another couple of times with the same result.
My system has an Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard, AMD 9850 X4 cpu, 4GB memory, EVGA GTX 295, two Maxtor hard drives - 300GB and 500GB, 2 DVD drives, etc.
Anyone have any suggestions other than a clean install? I had tried the Win 7 beta version with a clean install and that had installed but that was all I did with it.
I purchased Windows 7 Professional for my old computer. Shortly after the install my old computer failed. I've since purchased a new computer with Windows 7 Home. My question is: can I somehow upgrade the Home version to the Professional version using the Professional Install disc? The old computer was 32 bit and the new computer is 64 bit if that makes any difference.
I recently bought a new laptop which came installed with win 7 home premium. On my desktop machine that it is replacing I have win 7 ultimate installed. I want to transfer the ultimate license to the laptop but when I tried to perform an install from the Windows 7 ultimate CD on the laptop I was directed to the windows store to purchase a Windows 7 ultimate upgrade. How can I use my Windows 7 ultimate disk to upgrade to Windows 7 ultimate on my laptop?
My laptop has windows7 starter installed. i have purchased anytime upgrade to home premium but it won't install. The product key is recognised. Microsoft doesn't seem to offer any support without payment.
I ran an upgrade with win home 7. I am the administrator. When I try to delete old programs, I get a message that reads require permission from Admin or trusted installer. How do I delete these programs. I put my password as an administrator when I logged in.
