I was extracting icons to add custom icons to my HTC Thunderbolt's framework, I extracted a huge folder to my desktop by accident and now I can't move or delete these icons on my desktop. It keeps saying..."Could not find this item, This is no longer located in C:\UsersMichaelDesktop. Verify the items location and try again"I've tried placing the file they originally came from on my desktop, moving them to the recycling bin, placing them in a new folder, rebooting and nothing works. I keep getting the message above.
I have two folders on one of my external drives. When I double click them, I am told they are empty but when I try to delete them, I get the following message:"Could not find this item" "This is no longer located in G:\. Verify the item's location and try again"How can I remove these folders?
I was using Windows 8 Pro, but because of some driver problems, I decided to rollback to Windows 7. I installed it at the same partition, without formating, but for some reason, the windows.old directory wasn't created. I stated that first because the hdd should be almost full, and second because there's no windows.old directory. I ran Recuva for some minutes, and it did found some files that where on the last installation, with many of them not overwritten. I would like to restore some of the files without using Recuva, as that will give me much work. There's any way to make windows.old show up?
where are the ntldr, boot.ini files located in windows 7, and windows vista? if there are no boot ini, where is the boot loader found in the c drive? do not need to know about bcdedit. i just need to know location of the ntldr file of windows 7 and vista. or any other files related to boot loading and startup.

I have just built my first pc, and I am stuck at installing windows 7 . Here's what happens, I am trying to install off a USB stick as I don't have a dvd drive for this build. It will load into the setup and it'll stop on a screen requiring me to load drivers.
Here is what it displays: "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now".
So I found drivers for my mobo Asus M5A97, I select them and then after I click next this message appears: "No new devices could be found. Make sure the driver files are correct and located on the driver installation media".
I don't know what to do! I've tried all I can think of!! Nothing seems to work! I am trying to install windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, I've tried installing windows vista 32 bit, and its been saying the same thing as well! I found the drivers here: [URL].
have been trying to get Windows 7 back in full shape but no luck. First i have no optical drive so i had to do a repair disc on USB. And it worked. So i deleted my Linux partition and extended the C: volume but when i tried bootrec.exe /FixBoot i got ""volume does not contain a recognized file system" Hmm so i tried bootrec.exe /FixMbr and that worked! After some messing around in DISKPART i managed to get Windows booting again. But now my Bootloader is located at SYSTEM D: and when i try booting without the USB Repair it wont start Windows.

I am new to computers and studying Networking and had an assignment where I had to load a recording program onto my desktop. I did not know that most people have the desktop in my computer. In the front so to speak but mine is located in CMyNameusers or the same path but also located in the temp folder. My instructor was suprised by this and I was wondering if someone set it up wrong or something. I am running Window 7 home premium on a Gateway NV55S. Is this where the Desktop folder should be located. If not how do I put it in the start menu?
I imported some video from my handy cam and they were placed in my "imported pictures and Video" file, but when i tried to find them via the search tool accessible by the windows button, it could not find "Imported pictures and Videos". i have spent a half hour trying to find them but the computer seems to have no such file called "Imported pictures and videos". Of course, I checked my regular videos and pictures file and found nothing... Why is this folder nowhere to be found?
When using WinXP - I changed the location of the my documents folder to a shared location, which would automatically enable off-line files for the local my documents folder.

1.I had created a locker on my desktop using "Folder Lock" software. 2.Subsequently I made the locker invisible using "Folder Protect" software. 3.When I was trying to add more files to the locker created in 1 the locker tried to "increase it's size on the run"... 4.This process failed and "Folder Lock" shut down and since then I cannot locate the locker anymore on my PC nor can I see it in "Folder Protect" 5.Having read on a forum, I uninstalled "Folder Protect" and reinstalled...but that did not help..I still could not find the Locker. 6.I even uninstalled and reinstalled "Folder Lock"...even this did not help 7.I understand the lockers created by "Folder Lock" are UNDELETABLE. 8.Clearly my locker is somewhere on my hard disk but I am unable to locate it.
I have read pitting imaging against registry backup which are clouding my choice.
1-Erunt requires that you turn UAC off for ERUNT and not to use it automatically. ERUNT has not been updated since 2005. 2-System restore and Norton = must Norton turn tamper protection off to restore. 3-system restore = do not use safe mode(good back up) but you cannot restore afterwards.
I have 2 questions, assuming the above is true;
1= does registry backup cause more trouble than imaging. 2-Acronis and Macrium are good but is Win 7 back up restore as reliable with 64 bit? It is limited but I am concerned about the reliability as oppsed to the other two.
I had an older computer that had XP on it so I installed windows 7 and it ran OK, but slower than when it had XP. To go back to XP do I just do as you normally would and use my XP disk and format it and install and when it calls for the previous operating disk stick my windows ME disk in.

My grandson thinks he is a computer whiz. He reinstalled Windows 7 on my computer and now I do not have access to my prgrams. How can I reinstall my Windows.old file?
How you can get back to vista from windows 7. I have tried formatting and re-installing but whilst formatting an error comes up to say the partition is not allowed to be cleared.I have tried rebotting with the vista operating system disc but it won't run properly.
I newly reformatted my laptop and reinstalled with a new licensed Windows 7, replacing Windows XP. When I close the lid, OR, put the laptop into sleep mode, it does go into sleep mode, but - pushing keys or moving the mouse will not bring it out. I have to hold the power button in for 10 seconds to shut the laptop down (hard power down). So basically, I can never put the laptop into sleep mode.
It is running 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium with 4 gigs of Ram.The problem they are having is that as soon as they stop working with any program, game, etc. the computer will go back to the log in menu and wait until their password has been entered. Once it does, it will go back to where it was. I was running Windows Update and it did it then. It is so weird to see it part way through an update download and have it go back to the sign in.I've tried the following:
1.I reset all setting to Never so that the computer should never go to sleep.
2.I deleted the password on the computer. Now my friend doesn't need to log in but the computer still waits for her to click on the administrative icon before it goes back to Windows.
I don't understand this problem. I've looked all over the net and even supposed to have solved the problems by several of the posts but it just doesn't work. I can't understand that if the computer is "NEVER" supposed to go to sleep why it is!
