So I'm having an issue with my Acer laptop. I installed Windows 7 Enterprise on it and now I'm getting no sound . I tried installing some drivers but none would work. Windows update doesn't give me anything regarding sound. I fear that the sound chip is defect. In device manager there is nothing regarding sound either.
View 2 Repliesmy Acer Aspire 5738G to factory settings. (I've done it before and i never seemed to have a problem). I know it should be simple to do this, by simply pressing "Alt" and "F10" at the Acer Splashpage when you bootup, and going to the acer eRecovery page. But when i do this i get the error message."HDD RECOVERY VALIDATION FAILED" I've tried my hardest, searched all over google for a solution, but every problem seems to be different.And i can't figure out what is particularly wrong with my computer. I am only an amateur when it comes to computers, and disks, partitions, locating partitions, etc etc is not my strong suit. Is there anyway i can check if the hidden partition "PQservice" is still in my drives? If it helps in anyway, i though i might mention that the previous time i restored back to factory settings.When i completed it, i didn't fully complete the windows installation process, and now whenever i log into my computer, it mentions that my "windows is not yet genuine, click here to register it blah blah blah". I didn't bother doing it because i assumed it wasn't vital, i was and have still been able to use my computer fine for the past year or so without having to do it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having an Acer Aspire 1680 notebook with an AC'97 compatible soundcard apparently from Conexant, however unfortunately Windows 7 does not seem to recognise it automatically. I can install the XP drivers successfully but then all playback is stuttering and laggy. I also searched for Vista AC97 drivers respectively Vista Conexant drivers but they all do not appear to be compatible.
Does anybody know whether there is a working driver for Windows 7?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a acer aspire 5935G 64bit running Windows 7 home premium and cannot for the life of me get the internal speakers to work I have been on the acer website and downloaded Audio_Realtek_6.0.1.5932_W7x64W7x86_A as recommended by the site but to no joy.At first I just downloaded and tried to install which didn't work - well it said it did but the little speaker in the bottom left has a 'x' in the centre when clicked it says there is a issue and tries to fix it then fails.My device manager has one failed driver 'with yellow/orange exclamation mark' on high definition audio controller. Other sound drivers that do not have a error are another high def audio controller which are both in the system devices section, and then theres a hdmi audio controller in speakers and sound section. I then tried to disable then uninstall all sound drivers and try again which gave me the same result as above.Now after unstalling it one click on speaker and it installs windows audio drivers which do not work.

checked all possible setting as per my knowledge. The point to note here is that sound is working perfectly OK in Ubuntu 11.10. so my speakers appear to be OK.
Has anyone experienced no sound with Windows 7? Running Home Premium 64 bit on an Acer Aspire 5742G. A bit of a search indicates sound issues when people upgrade to 7 from XP etc, but this laptop came with 7 installed already. And there has been sound...sometimes. But more often than not, just no sound.
Troubleshooting doesn't reveal any problems. Apparently everything is "working correctly". So I suppose it could be a hardware fault. Oh and the volume is turned up and not muted

I've solved my gaming graphics issues, namely by choosing the parts I wanted rather than buying yet another "Media-Center"-style all-in-one unit that did everything, but not very well, I'm now in need of a solution to my present awful headphone sound quality. I have a generic Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio card that is not very good, sound-wise, and, because it doesn't even include an optical out plug, goes unused. I purchased a refurbished Turtle Beach headset w/DSS decoder, and, while it works as advertised, the headphones are terrible for music. I've replaced the TB Headset with a much better-sounding Pyle set, and will buy some "real" headphones as soon as I've determined that the source itself is sending out a good-sounding signal.I've seen pro and con arguments about sound cards, like the Xonar series that have headphone amplification included. My issue with that is I am more concerned with the graphics for games, and I've built this system with SLI (another gtx580) in mind, and I do not see enough room under or in between the dual GPUs for proper installation of such huge sound cards, though I'm glad to have my ignorance in this area demonstrated. The anti-Sound card group seems to be gravitating towards a separate headphone amplifier, and I"ve seen them from the $20 dollar model included free with another headset I purchased, to the $1800 tube amps. I think I would like to either go this route, or purchase a home stereo receiver that can output the PC sound, thus having both satisfactory amplification for low-volume music listening( or ear-bleeding levels, if desired) and the ability to power speakers elsewhere. I guess what I'm asking is for some entry-level priced PC headphone amplifiers to start off with. I see countless rating comments for the FiiO series, and while the prices are certainly attractive, the fact that they're so low-priced also makes me leery of their actual amplification abilities while staying neutral in tone.

I just bought a new pc from Dell. I opted out of buying the SB sound card they had as an option and now I am sorta regretting that. I loaded RC 7100 as soon as I got the machine and after going through this forum I am sorta left with the impression that SB cards don't work with Win 7. Is that really the case?

I'm experiencing a strange sound in windows navigation start sound if i play that file in a media player it works fine but sometimes this odd sound appears in windows navigation start sound.I've ran malwarebytes (no issues), sfc scannow (no issues).I'm running on board sound card.
View 2 Replies View RelatedYesterday I installed a new external hard drive - following the installation - my sound no longer played through my television (video is fine, HDMI connection) and sound now comes ONLY through the laptop speakers.The option for HDMI Audio doesn't appear in the 'sound' menus. I have 'checked' "shoe disabled" and "show disconnected" in those menus. [code] I use my HD TV as my primary monitor for gaming, so having sound through laptop speakers and not TV is quite annoying.Perhaps my only solution is another sound card?

On startup I get an error from MMDevApi.dll saying that it might not run on Windows or... something else. This also occurs anytime a program tries to use the sound card ie. WoW, Yahoo IM, Live IM, SL, etc. I've updated my sound card drivers to the newest ones. I still get an error that says the device is detected when going to "Sound Devices" in the control panel.
Trying to adjust the sounds themselves leads me to the Windows Audio thing... which won't start even from the component list.

normally i only have 1 sound card/sound device in sound settings when i use hdmi with my tv, i have 2 sound devices in there, and i can choose 1 one of them as default, and all applications i run will play sound on that default device, so i choose hdmi (my tv) as default, open chrome for my mom watch movies, sound play on my tv (hdmi), that's what i want and i open firefox, go to Internet, sound also play on my tv (hdmi), that's not what i want, i want it (firefox) to play sound on my pc, so my mom can watch movies on tv, and i can watch Internet on pc
is there a way to do this? a way to set per-application sound card/sound device setting? i know some programs like windows media player or vlc can let you choose sound card, but firefox, chrome do not. i tried indievolume and it did not work, even uninstalled, reinstalled but did not work, or is there any browser that let me choose sound card setting (like wmp and vlc, but these 2 are not browser)
