GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 Memory And Compatibility?
Jul 4, 2012
I bought a Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 mobo and while checking the Memory QVL on their website I saw that they have not listed 8gb individual sticks of ram. They provide the Module P/N of 2x4gb and 2x2gb ram packages.I have learn that the Module P/N number has to be very respected to secure the compatibility, but when I for example look for the 2x4gb ram package specs on a different package (1x8gb), the Module P/N changes slightly and it is not found on my mobo's QVL. Is there a problem if I choose the 1x8gb package even thought the serial number varies slightly?I already bought a 2x4gb ram package because I did not think that in order to take full advantage of ram slots capacity (get to 32gb) I have to use 1x8gb sticks. So now that I have 2x4gb ram in my system, is it possible to use the other 2 empty slots and use a 2x8gb package in order to have 24gb in my system?

Using Win 7 64-bit with AMD SATA drivers with a strange issue.
When this board boots up it does an AHCI initialization which shows the attached sata drives. After that, Windows 7 loads and runs without a problem. However, when I reboot Windows it sounds like the hard drives spin speed is slowing down then speeding up again.
It does this about 4 times then the computer shuts down. When the computer restarts and goes back to the AHCI init screen it now shows "S.M.A.R.T. Error", but Windows boots without a problem. If the computer is shut down (powered off) the next boot will not show the error.
I've had Windows 7RC 32-bit, and currently also have XP-64 and XP-32 partitions on this machine with no problems at all. If I set the machine to Native IDE instead of AHCI everything goes back to normal with no shutdown issues.
Any ideas?

Wasn't exactly sure where to put this question.I have a machine with a h67a-ud3h-b3 MOBO abd an currently using both video outputs. Nice board. Does anyone know if I can add an addtional video card to the board without having to disable the on-board video. Yes, I'd like a 3 or 4 monitor system. Everything I've found on the subject is very vague.

I installed all the drivers available from the Gigabyte website for some reason the wifi function simply does not work. Also, the screen plugged into the 7950 works fine but the other screen connected into the motherboard gets the message "no signal detected".

i am having a problem with my memory getting tied up / used up and not being able to access it again until i reboot.
machine: dell xps studio 8100
os: win 7,
processor: i7 2.8
ram: 16gb (max it will take)
video: ati radeon 5700 (running 3 monitors)
versions: as far as i know i am running current versions of everything, including video drivers, flash, chrome, etc. (i've tried running chrome with both the build in version of flash and the system version -haven't seen a difference)
browser: i nearly exclusively run chrome / canary with auto-updates so am at the latest builds.what seems to cause me to use up / run out of memory is after i play videos (Internet, netflix, etc.), the memory seems to get used, but is not returned to the system, even if the browser is closed and re-opened.right now for example things are working fine; i rebooted my system a couple hours ago (but have not played any videos). i have adobe lightroom running, picasa, chrome and canary (currently 4 web browser windows open with 52 tabs open). task manager currently shows me using 8.20gb of ram, that seems pretty reasonable to me.
normally my system will keep running properly (if a program is closed, memory is freed up) right up until i start to play any videos (Internet, netflix, etc.) then it will start using up more memory. (of course i expect it to use more memory during playback) however, even if i restart the browser, the memory does not get freed back up. for example, just prior to the reboot, with everything closed, i was using right around 8gb of ram. once i rebooted, i was using 1.something gb of ram prior to opening any programs.however, once i start playing some videos, i never seem to be able to get my ram freed back up again unless i reboot the whole system. this is not just a problem with how much memory the system shows as being available, i frequently actually run out of memory. (task manager will show me as using around 15gb and then everything starts swapping out like crazy).

I find that if I run chkdsk and watch the memory usage in task manager it jumps by about 50MB every 2 seconds or so until it either finishes or hits around 3.2GB at which point my physical memory shows 99% used (I'm running 4GB), and the system of course slows to a crawl.f you just run a quick chkdsk on your boot drive you may not notice it, but try running something longer like chkdsk /r on a flash drive or chkdsk /f on a bigger internal drive (but not your OS drive as this would require a reboot) and watch the memory usage climb. I have duplicated this on both systems I have running Windows 7. My XP machine (checking the same USB flash drive) uses a much more normal amount of memory for chkdsk (20 - 30 MB).

Memory Usage Goes Up Gradually (Memory Leak)When I starting the Windows (in the first few hours) everything is normal But after 1 day or 2 (sooner or later) the amount of available memory gradually goes down and the physical memory usage increasing. This increasing, continues until the memory usage reaches near the 88% and at that point , there isn't any memory available to operate any software . Also when memory reaches that point, I can't access any drive in the HDD; because everytime I want to open any folder, the following error appears :c: is not accessible.Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service At this point, I even can't shutdown or restart Windows normally; I must restart windows manually by pressing the restart button.after restart, everything goes to normal again; but this problem appears again and again ...

I just built a new computer and started with 8GB of memory. A few weeks down the line I purchased another set of the same memory because it was on such a good deal and had great reviews (newegg). It also was working well for me, so I figured maybe more could be better.
I haven't noticed any decrease/increase in system performance except Alt-Tabbing has recently got slower. Also, Windows 7 was sitting tight on 1.3gb to 2gb of memory usage prior to the extra 8 (now 16) being added. Even when gaming, it went up to like 3gb. Now that I've added the extra it's going up to 4.5gb or better. Also, is it possible to speed up my alt-tabbing? It seems to have a good 3-4 second pause in it instead of being immediate like it was.
Computer specs:
Windows 7 HP 64-bit
gSkill 16gb 1866 memory (BIOS shows it at 1866, too)
Intel i5-2500k Sandy Bridge (OC'd 4.6 with factory Overclock presets)
ASRock z68 Extreme4 mobo

I recently bought 2x1GB Ram Sticks for a Dell DimensionE510It has a Pentium4 2.80Gh Processorand factory 1 GB RAMIt's currently running Windows 7 x64hen I put the new RAM sticks in the system recognizes the new memory says it has 3.0 GB of ram and runs until I start actually using to new memory, as in start running more programs simultaneously and it crashes and I get two BSOD*. As far as I know the sticks match the motherboard, as in that's what I was told.*"Memory Management" and "PFN List Corrupt"As far as I understand it is a driver issue, but I honestly am not sure.

To start, I have Windows 7, on Sony Vaio laptop. I have been working on the issues with the malware removal team, but now machine looks clean, I am still having issues. When starting the computer and going to the task manager, I can watch explorer.exe start at about 18K memory usage and then grow constantly until it is running with almost all of the computer's physical memory after about seven min. I cannot get the context menu to show up after a few min by right clicking on anything. I had been experiencing "freezing" while playing Eden Eternal (an online role playing game) before that, which made me consider malware and seek help here at BleepingComputer. The freezing has ended, last time I played on that machine at least, but now there seems to be some issue with the explorer.exe taking all of the memory. I haven't been using the machine since I don't trust that there's not something running in the background that shouldn't be. In resource monitor there were "connections" that had "-" for both the name and the PID, but I don't know if that was the malware of if that's normal somehow? Issue with explorer.exe seems to be limited to only one user account, and not the other one. That is to say that if I log on one of the other accounts explorer.exe behaves normally, as far as memory usage.

I have windows 7 64 bit and also running a ssd. Just a few days ago I've started to have an issue where after my computer is running for a couple hours all processes continually increase the amount of memory they are using until I get an out of memory error. Here is a pic of it around 75%. I have 8 gigs of ram (kingston) that before this never went above 4gigs of use, so not sure what is causing this suddenly.

The memory could not be written.Sometimes they will auto close, others I will have to force the shutdown. The thing that seems interesting is that there's a pattern to the memory addresses. When it's a software exe crashing, it's always 0x7xxx51d3.When it's explorer.exe crashing, it's always 0x7xxx87bc.

I purchased a Dell laptop last May with 64-bit Vista. A number of web design and graphics apps I use were not fully functional on that OS, so I downgraded to the 32-bit Vista.
I now plan to upgrade that laptop to Windows 7.
Does anyone have any idea if the compatibility mode selections in Windows 7 64-bit will allow me to run more 32-bit applications than on Vista? I would like to take advantage of the extra RAM on my system, but not at the expense of applications not having full functionality.
I welcome any insights anyone can offer before I do the OS installation.

I am curious about accessing an 'XP machine' with a 'Windows 7 machine.'
I'm planning on buying a storage drive, probably a 1.5TB drive. The new ones, mostly WD for now, have a new partitioning system and require a WD utility or Windows 7. I don't have it yet but might upgrade my Quad Core machine to Windows 7. I have an older laptop that has XP. It's not really powerful enough to bother installing 7 on it so it will remain an XP machine.
I will write to the new HDD from both computers. I guess I would format the new storage drive to NTFS format from Windows 7. (Or I could use the WD utility from XP?). There won't be any issues, right? Windows 7 NTFS is similar enough to XP NTFS?
If I got Windows 7, I think I wouldn't go any higher than Home Premium. I think there are utilities out there to obtain the XP Mode if I needed it. I just need to confirm that both operating systems can write to a NTFS-formatted storage drive with no issues. It will store video files, music files, documents, .exe files or program files but nothing installed; it's just for storage.

So i have 32x Windows 7 I also have 8GB of memory.
My question is how much memory can this architecture actually see? its 32bit, so shouldn't it only see a max of 4? in the my computer properties, it tells me i have 8, but a bunch of programs tell me i have the 3.25.
Do i need to move to 64x? and what happens with the drivers for my custom built pc? will i be able to find them? (most of my disks wont install 32 bit drivers on Windows 7 beta) i cant really do the vista driver backup with driver max, because i use XP
any help? ideas? suggestions? Thoughts? Comments? Wize cracks?

As we all know, game compatibility frequently changed from build to build - some games that worked in older builds stopped working, and some games that did not work in older builds work in newer builds. Some of the latter can be attributed to patches put out but the game companies, and some can be attributed to the inclusion in Windows 7 missing components necessary to fulfill the total gaming experience of certain games.
That being said, there are now 2 lists to work with - the other list has been changed to a Pre-release list (and un-stickied), and this is now the official repository of games that work with the RTM. Read more at the forum...

I have two computers that are running Win XP Home and one that is running Win Xp Media Center Edition. Will I have any problems upgrading the Win Xp Media Center Edition?
Currently I'm trying to upgrade the system with Win Xp Home. It has a Gigabyte AMD AM2 Socket (GA-M57 SLI-S4) motherboard, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+, 4 GB of ram and a Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS soundcard.
I ran the windows 7 upgrade adviser on the computer and then someone suggest I also run the vista upgrade adviser as well. On both it is telling me that there is a problem with "Windows Aero Support". I've seen lots of posts stating it will run on their video card but I have not seen anything on mine and need to know if I can upgrade to Win 7 Home Premium without a problem. My video card is a NVidia Geforce 7900 GTX. Does anyone know if that card will work with Win 7?
Then also it is telling me that my D-Link DWA-130 Wireless USB adapter is a problem. I went to their website and they have Vista drivers but not Win 7. Someone suggested not downloading the D-Link drivers but downloading the vista drivers and that it would work. I have little knowledge regarding Win 7 and therefore didn't know if this was good advice or bad advice on downloading the vista drivers. Is anyone here using this wireless adapter successfully with Win 7?
Last it mentions that it is not compatible with the Creative Game Port. I don't know if this is something that is downloaded with my Gigaabyte motherboard recovery disc. I don't think it was something I installed but not sure. AS far as I know it is not something I'm using so it doesn't matter if it isn't compatible (at least I think it's not). I didn't know if anyone knew about this.
I'm hoping anyone that has experience with any of this hardware will let me know if it is compatible with Win 7 before I upgrade it only to find it is compatible to upgrade.

Question: When Windows 7 says "This program has known compatibility issues", is it basing it on an analysis of what the program is doing, or is it consulting a list of programs?
So far, I have encountered this with DaemonTools (even though their site claims it's Windows 7 compatible), ZoneAlarm, and Adobe Reader (version 7 - I don't know why that's the latest one I can download fresh from their site, because I know version 9 is out). I've gone ahead and used Adobe Reader because I needed it and it seemed to work okay, but I didn't want to chance it with something like ZoneAlarm that is going to attach itself deep into the OS.
Any advice?

A friend asked me to setup her new Windows 7 Home Premium machine and her old Dell Dimension 4700 with windows xp. She bought a Belkin FLIP USB with audio to accomplish this somewhat, however the windows 7 pc seems to be causing issues as far as i can tell. At random times the keyboard will not switch during a flip but you can flip again and it corrects.
It also would sometimes get the KB/mouse on one computer and the monitor on the other, which was not fixable by her. The only solution being to fully unplug the KVM and let it power down for a few seconds and then rehook it up to the running PCs. She's not really prepared to do that for a KVM that should be simple.
Belkin's website does not claim compatibility with Windows 7 or 64bit, so can anyone recommend a KVM that has "fully" compatible drivers for Windows 7 64bit? The belkin flip will generally work with a little troubleshooting despite it not being supported on win7 64, but she doesn't want to do "any troubleshooting" and just wants it to work all the time.
