Error: Device Driver Software Was Not Successfully Installed
Jan 28, 2013Most times when I start my machine or just turn on my monitors (the Windows Display setting is set to turn off at 20 minutes, sleep is set to Never), I find that Windows is installing software. Sometimes it's successful, sometimes it fails.I see others have had this issue, but the offered remedies (reinstall drivers) did not work (I consider I may not have done it properly).? How can I get Windows to install the software correctly and then stop attempting to re-install the software?(Below is the text of the message I get.)

Device Driver Software Was Not Successfully Installed For Cable Modem
Jul 21, 2012When trying to install my USB cable modem (Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2), I'm always getting a popup message that says "Device Driver Software was not Successfully Installed." I don't even get a "Found New Hardware" message beforehand. I just switched over to Windows 7 Professional 64-bit from Windows XP today, and the modem was working fine earlier (when I was using XP).
When I put the Setup disk that came with my modem, AutoPlay will play it, but I can't set up anything that way. If I go through Device Manager to try and update the driver, I get a message along the lines of "Windows could not find updates." I even get this message when I manually direct it to my D: drive where the disk is.
I've even tried uninstalling the driver from Device Manager, unplugging the USB from my PC, restarting it, and then plugging the USB back in, but I still get the same error.
It really shouldn't be the modem, as it was working fine earlier and I am even using it right now as I type this on my other PC (that runs Windows XP) and it's working fine. Would anyone happen to know how to remedy this?

Jan 2, 2012When I plug in my ipod to any of the USB ports I get "Device driver software was not successfully installed." I followed all the itunes / ipod troubleshooting and no luck. I updated drivers and unintalled them and still no luck. I am getting this error with two seperate ipods, i restored one back to the factory settings and still nothing. All other devices (camera, thumb drive, etc.) work in these USBs.I have a 32 bit windows seven.

The problem is that Flash will not stay installed. Another problem (related?) is that I *cannot* install Itunes on this computer, it will error out each time, and Apple is notorious for telling me it is a Windows problem, nothing they can do, so I found a way around the "long pole in the tent" requirement of Itunes to Sync iPad/iPod, and this really isn't even a "problem" anymore as much as an annoyance. Other utilities, Avast virus protection, Malware Bytes, Spybot Search/Destroy with immunization, and always running Iolo System Mechanic.
All software and operating system is up to date with current patches and updates. A program I use regularly that may be suspect but also seems so innocuous as to have no bearing on it is a keyboard macro program, Keyboard Express v4. For example with this program, I can define some hot keys like ALT-CTRL-T which will insert some text I define to the program into wherever the cursor is at on the current web page or Word document. Always text, no graphics or funkiness here.
I usually use Firefox (v11.0) as my browser but interestingly enough, I discover that Flash has also disappeared when I go to IE (v9), and it appears there is a different Flash for IE than there is for Firefox, depending on which browser is used to download (multiple times daily) the Flash installer. An interesting aspect is that after I re-install Flash, IE and/or Firefox, then later on go to Outlook and click a link in an email, Outlook gives me an error message about not being able to open the link. But if I reboot, Outlook is now fine to click on and open that same link, although Flash has again gone away.

Dec 27, 2012I installed a new motherboard an asus p8p67 with a intel i3 and upgraded to windows 7 64bit. Everything went fine the first day, but next day everything kept telling me to install flash player which I already did that along with java. I went to control panel flash player was there hit update, says I had latest version. I uninstalled flash player went to adobe and downloaded it again, install process says I have the newest version already installed but I have no flash installed at this moment. The little bar at bottom keeps saying website wants to install following adobe flash player addon which is showing right now as I write this. I installed it at first with the default 32 bit internet explorer which is ie9 but now nothing seems to work and still have no flash player installed.

Sep 19, 2012Every now and then my WiFi stops working, and if I go to dev mgr, the General tab tells me that "No drivers are installed for this device" for device status. On the other tabs, however, I have all the details on the installed driver, and if I ask Windows to update the driver, it tells me that the best driver is already installed. The problem is solved by rebooting, but I find that annoying. I'd like to figure out WHY it does that. I've saved earlier versions of that particular driver from over the last three years, and the problem occurs with all of the drivers. This is a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit system. The driver is an Intel driver; the one installed at this moment (it just happened again, and I have not rebooted, since I had a powerline enet outlet handy), and the version of the Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN is 14.3.1. I have other versions of that driver saved, from 13.2.1.5 to 15.1.1_Ds64. I had reverted to the 14.3.1 because the more recent versions seemed to be worse about the driver disabling itself or whatever it is doing.Coincidentally with this, the event viewer shows that mmc.exe was terminated because it was hanging. I had just run sfc yesterday, and there are no corrupt files that Windows cannot fix, and there weren't even any corrupt files that it DID fix.

Feb 8, 2011For a while now(speaking in month terms), my sound would be working just fine. But sometimes when I put it into hibernate(for the night) and turn it back on, my speaker icon would have a red X over it. The only way this goes away is if I leave the computer off for a long time or, spam restarts(lol). What can be the problem here? My guess is that it's getting old or something.
Also, when I try to find it in the device manager, it doesn't show up. It can't even detect it either.
Also, I reinstalled the drivers yesterday, and it worked again....for another few hours. So when I retried doing that, windows update didn't detect the sound card.

Sep 13, 2011I have a HTPC in my living room which since updating on the weekend now has no sound I have found similar issues and posts on various forums from searching all afternoon Sunday but none with a solution (that works for me) other than a full Windows 7 reinstall. I have a PC running onboard realtek (ASRock ConRoe 745 DVI), which was working perfectly until Service [pack one update and two other updates this Sunday. I unfortunately discovered for some reason the System Restore on this machine was set to off so that is not an option The audio symbol bottom right says there is no audio device installed, however if you look in the device manager there is the correct Realtek device installed with no exclamation mark and it is reporting as working correctly. If you right click on the red cross and click playback devices it takes you to the realtek device properties and it is set as default. (In fact if you unplug the speaker jack the PC advises you of this even though it says no audio device installed). If you click on the red cross it launches the fault detection wizard and returns "Audio Device is Disabled - Not Fixed"I have tried uninstalling the device - scanning for changes - reinstall Repeated the above but deleted the device drivers Tried a SFC scan and a Chkdsk Scan (No errors) Tried with the Microsoft default high definition audio drivers and the latest (and not latest) realtek drivers Tried disabling in the BIOS uninstalling and reinstalling after re-enabling Tried uninstalling the updates and repeating the above Tried uninstalling the service pack and repeating the above Finally unenabled the onboard card and installed a PCI soundblaster Audigy - Same problem?

I found out using that website that the Network Controller was an Antheros Wireless Network Adapter. Antheros. When I installed my drivers and saw that I had a Broadcom LAN card, I assumed that I'd also have a Broadcom Wireless network adapter. Well nope. I deleted the Broadcom driver, installed the Antheros one and now the problem is fixed.

Feb 3, 2012I've been searching on Google for the last three and a half hours for a solution but came up with nothing, so I thought I'd post here to see if anyone can tell me what's up. I turned on my laptop today to find that there was a little red 'x' over the audio symbol, and upon further inspection it turned out that there was no audio driver installed. I wasn't very bothered about it at first, because after a Windows update once I had to reinstall it, and everything ran smoothly from there because I just reinstalled the driver which originally came with the laptop. Now, this is the problem. I tried installing the driver, and the installation seemed to go fine, I was prompted to restart, did so, but when I logged in after the reboot, I was still getting the "No Audio Output Device Is Installed" error. I searched around, tried a different Realtek HD driver. Same result. Tried again with a different driver, no luck. Wax on, wax off. I can't figure out why it's happening, but maybe someone here can?
