View 3 RepliesI have all but concluded that my old USB dongle I used for wifi is not compatible with Windows 7 (it installs correctly but detects no networks; An Edimax Ralink RT73 USB dongle).
So what are some inexpensive USB wifi options that are tried and true Windows 7 performers?

3.When I was trying to add more files to the locker created in 1 the locker tried to "increase it's size on the run"...
4.This process failed and "Folder Lock" shut down and since then I cannot locate the locker anymore on my PC nor can I see it in "Folder Protect"
5.Having read on a forum, I uninstalled "Folder Protect" and reinstalled...but that did not help..I still could not find the Locker.
6.I even uninstalled and reinstalled "Folder Lock"...even this did not help

My work programs require XP and supposedly will not function on windows 7 nor the XP mode of same. I need a new computer, most likely a laptop, so I can work while traveling. I can't buy XP anymore. Any suggestions other than a new job?

View 6 Replies View Relatedafter upgrading to internet explorer 9, i realized that ie9 doesn't work with most of the things i do in the browser!! facebook locks up, Internet doesn't like it, and most of all, i can't do my online classes because internet explorer 9 is not supported by webassign or csi blackboard. webassign and blackboard do not work in firefox, either.i thought, uninstall ie9 and put internet explorer 8 back on. after being to over 20 different websites, i cannot find an installer for ie8 for windows 7 x64 anywhere. i did try the installers for both windows xp x64 and windows vista x64, but both of them said the installer was incompatable with my version of windows.
i contacted microsoft and they told me to go to programs and features, windows features, and check internet explorer 8. but after i uninstalled ie9, only the internet explorer 9 feature was listed, not 8.so i called support back, and this time they didn't tell me to do that. instead, the support rep, as stupid as he was, told me that internet explorer 8 is not compatable with windows 7. i told him, my computer came with ie8 pre-installed. windows updates is what broke it!so basically, tl;dr, i need an installer for ie8 for windows 7 x64.
An ex coworker of mine installed Windows 7 Pro on a pc for one of our clients, which was never activated. Now it's 30 days later and it's asking for the key. The sticker with the Windows 7 Pro OEM key on the side of the box is rather illegible. I input the key in an attempt to activate, but it fails. My issue is I don't know if I'm putting in the wrong key or the Windows 7 Pro that was installed is not OEM version. Is there an easy way for me to tell if it is OEM or not without having to reinstall?

I cannot install some programs that have to beusing setup.exe (if I use msi installer - it's OK, but some programs like Adobe Photoshop Elements must be installed using setup.exe). When I click on setup.exe, I'm instantly getting a message that this file cannot be found.
This is not a problem with the particular program, but with many. Also, couple months ago I didn't have these problems with the same programs. I've tried Microsoft FixIt - didn't help. I don't know when this happened, but at least two months ago, so I cannot even use the restore point.
I'd also ran SFC /scannow, it fixed some problems, but not this one. Are there any ways to fix this besided re-installing Windows?
I recently had to reinstall windows due to my computer crashing. Upon reinstalling everything I tried to access both msconfig and regedit under the search box in the start menu. When it does this it says "No items match your search". What could be the problem? Everything else is running perfectly and I know I have no viruses or malware.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've recently built a new computer and am trying to install Windows 7 on it (Professional 64-bit full version, acquired through MSDN-AA, burned on a DVD). The installation works for a few minutes but then it tells me that Windows can't find the driver for the DVD drive, an LG GH22NS50 DVD Writer, and prompts me to browse for it. The driver is supposed to be plug'n'play, so there's no CD and I can't find it online. I don't know how the installation has worked at all without the driver, but I seemingly can't get past this point without pointing Windows to a driver.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been trying for around 6 hours today to get my new computer up and running, but I've run into a problem, my sata disk wont be located during the windows 7 installation. "No drives were found" I've turned on AHCI and I've downloaded drivers from Gigabyte's homepage, but I get the message "To continue installation, use the Load Driver option to install 32-bit and signed 64-bit drivers. installing an unsigned 64-bit device driver is not supported and might result in an unusable Windows installation." Anyone have any ideas on what I can do?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have seen a thread on this topic, old (312 days) and didn't report a clear solution. I intalled quite some time ago a Windows7 RC1 64 bit, which worked fine and honestly was not bad at all. Unfortunately I didn't use it for a while and now I discovered it expired, so I need a new clean istallation to do my job: find compatibility issues with WIndows 7 professional edition. I received a new DVD with activation key (i guess it must have been downloaded from MSDN) for the purpose.
I'm running windows XP 32 bit right now, but can't install windows 7 because after booting from the DVD it says it can not find a suitable driver. What is this about? I can see all my 4 HDs and the 3 DVDs (one is a Blue Ray driver less than 9 months old ) 2 are sata drivers (a Plaxtor burner and the LG BDD); the 3rd one is an old Toshiba IDE DVD rom (still the faster of the 3). In the installation windows I can browse all drivers and directories, I have unzipped the X58 matheboard drivers in a directory. The installation program can load the drivers (even very very slow).... I tried to load several drivers, but I can't figure out which driver is needed; a DVD rom driver is not available
Where can I get this file. I am trying to make a USB Boot drive, But I do not have Bootsect.exe on My windows 7 64-bit DVD. Home version. Is this only on Pro or Ultimate, or only on the 32 bit version ?
