I am trying to do a usb upgrade of 64 bit windows7 on my 32bit vista computer. My laptops dvd drive is broken so I got a digital copy of windows7.
The problem I am having is that to prepare the usb drive and make it bootable I need to run a program called bootsect.exe. The problem however is that this is a 64 bit program and I cannot execute it from my 32 bit vista install.
Does anyone know a way around this? I need to complete the final step which is making my usb drive bootable.
I have the 32bit version of bootsect.exe will this work and then go on to install 64 bit ?

I am running an ASUS U-47 laptop and am trying to access the system recovery options. However, when I try and access them, which I have done from both the recovery partition as well as a system repair disc, I am only directed to the restore to jfactory preset wizard, which offers me three options; restore windows to entire HD, just this partition, or 2 partitions. I am trying to access the bootsect.exe in order to remove grub, and as far as I can see, the only way to do that is through the command prompt in the system recovery environment.

1.I had created a locker on my desktop using "Folder Lock" software.
2.Subsequently I made the locker invisible using "Folder Protect" software.
3.When I was trying to add more files to the locker created in 1 the locker tried to "increase it's size on the run"...
4.This process failed and "Folder Lock" shut down and since then I cannot locate the locker anymore on my PC nor can I see it in "Folder Protect"
5.Having read on a forum, I uninstalled "Folder Protect" and reinstalled...but that did not help..I still could not find the Locker.
6.I even uninstalled and reinstalled "Folder Lock"...even this did not help
7.I understand the lockers created by "Folder Lock" are UNDELETABLE.
8.Clearly my locker is somewhere on my hard disk but I am unable to locate it.

Needing to resize digital photos i have recently taken. WinXP had a great little tweaker toy for this...i can't seem to find it in Win7. Is there a small program to do this. In WinXP all one had to do was right click on the image and voila, one could instantly resize an image.

after upgrading to internet explorer 9, i realized that ie9 doesn't work with most of the things i do in the browser!! facebook locks up, Internet doesn't like it, and most of all, i can't do my online classes because internet explorer 9 is not supported by webassign or csi blackboard. webassign and blackboard do not work in firefox, either.i thought, uninstall ie9 and put internet explorer 8 back on. after being to over 20 different websites, i cannot find an installer for ie8 for windows 7 x64 anywhere. i did try the installers for both windows xp x64 and windows vista x64, but both of them said the installer was incompatable with my version of windows.
i contacted microsoft and they told me to go to programs and features, windows features, and check internet explorer 8. but after i uninstalled ie9, only the internet explorer 9 feature was listed, not 8.so i called support back, and this time they didn't tell me to do that. instead, the support rep, as stupid as he was, told me that internet explorer 8 is not compatable with windows 7. i told him, my computer came with ie8 pre-installed. windows updates is what broke it!so basically, tl;dr, i need an installer for ie8 for windows 7 x64.

An ex coworker of mine installed Windows 7 Pro on a pc for one of our clients, which was never activated. Now it's 30 days later and it's asking for the key. The sticker with the Windows 7 Pro OEM key on the side of the box is rather illegible. I input the key in an attempt to activate, but it fails. My issue is I don't know if I'm putting in the wrong key or the Windows 7 Pro that was installed is not OEM version. Is there an easy way for me to tell if it is OEM or not without having to reinstall?

I m using hp envy dv4-5205tx running windows 8(came with it when i bought the laptop)I m having trouble running games in windows 8 and prefer running windows 7..So, before doing anything, i tried to find all the drivers needed for my laptop in the official hp site, and I saw that only drivers for windows 8 available for my model since its a new model.I tried to find the drivers manually, but scared that it might be incompatible with my laptop model. But i seriously want to reformat to windows 7.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
I cannot install some programs that have to beusing setup.exe (if I use msi installer - it's OK, but some programs like Adobe Photoshop Elements must be installed using setup.exe). When I click on setup.exe, I'm instantly getting a message that this file cannot be found.
This is not a problem with the particular program, but with many. Also, couple months ago I didn't have these problems with the same programs. I've tried Microsoft FixIt - didn't help. I don't know when this happened, but at least two months ago, so I cannot even use the restore point.
I'd also ran SFC /scannow, it fixed some problems, but not this one. Are there any ways to fix this besided re-installing Windows?

I recently had to reinstall windows due to my computer crashing. Upon reinstalling everything I tried to access both msconfig and regedit under the search box in the start menu. When it does this it says "No items match your search". What could be the problem? Everything else is running perfectly and I know I have no viruses or malware.

I've recently built a new computer and am trying to install Windows 7 on it (Professional 64-bit full version, acquired through MSDN-AA, burned on a DVD). The installation works for a few minutes but then it tells me that Windows can't find the driver for the DVD drive, an LG GH22NS50 DVD Writer, and prompts me to browse for it. The driver is supposed to be plug'n'play, so there's no CD and I can't find it online. I don't know how the installation has worked at all without the driver, but I seemingly can't get past this point without pointing Windows to a driver.

Nearly zero programs, control panel items, sound can be accessed on my child computer. The files are still there but windows says cant find. Some programs still work like Network access, Internet Explorer, explorer, a few downloaded games, superantispyware (which found no virus) Other virus software can't be accessed. Everything works fine in SAFE MODE except sound. Some updates can't be done in safe mode though. No error number pops up. Did I loose a .DLL? Virus? There is a rundll36.exe.mui file I am thinking about removing. I do have 2 copies of the regular rundll.exe file. My computer is English so I don't know why I would need a .mui.?? I have Windows 7 Ultimate x36 HP Tablet. no servicepack, and don't want it.

I've been trying for around 6 hours today to get my new computer up and running, but I've run into a problem, my sata disk wont be located during the windows 7 installation. "No drives were found" I've turned on AHCI and I've downloaded drivers from Gigabyte's homepage, but I get the message "To continue installation, use the Load Driver option to install 32-bit and signed 64-bit drivers. installing an unsigned 64-bit device driver is not supported and might result in an unusable Windows installation." Anyone have any ideas on what I can do?

I have seen a thread on this topic, old (312 days) and didn't report a clear solution. I intalled quite some time ago a Windows7 RC1 64 bit, which worked fine and honestly was not bad at all. Unfortunately I didn't use it for a while and now I discovered it expired, so I need a new clean istallation to do my job: find compatibility issues with WIndows 7 professional edition. I received a new DVD with activation key (i guess it must have been downloaded from MSDN) for the purpose.
I'm running windows XP 32 bit right now, but can't install windows 7 because after booting from the DVD it says it can not find a suitable driver. What is this about? I can see all my 4 HDs and the 3 DVDs (one is a Blue Ray driver less than 9 months old ) 2 are sata drivers (a Plaxtor burner and the LG BDD); the 3rd one is an old Toshiba IDE DVD rom (still the faster of the 3). In the installation windows I can browse all drivers and directories, I have unzipped the X58 matheboard drivers in a directory. The installation program can load the drivers (even very very slow).... I tried to load several drivers, but I can't figure out which driver is needed; a DVD rom driver is not available
