Failed Upgrade From Vista To Win7 Rtm
I tried to upgrade from Vista to windows 7 rtm,
everything was OK but when it start to open desktop for a first time, taskbar start to crash and reapear, it is like constantly refreshing, and it is impossible to open any program cause it shuts down immedieatly,
and taskbar and desktop continue to "refresh".
that is happening also in safe mode, only much slower.
windows doesnt repport any error, and also repair option said it does not detect any problem... ?
does anybody have similar experience, and how to solve it?

It is now trying to restart, comes to the blue screen, says 'Windows 7 install failed, trying to rollback' , restarts and does the same thing again. Steps tried:- Let this run overnight. Upgrade From Vista To Win7 Failed - Rolled Back
I ran the upgrade of Win 7 build 7000 over Vista Ultimate SP1 32 bit, and everything seemed to proceed fine until it ultimately ended up telling me the installation failed and it needed to roll back to the old operating system. Which it did, and I'm back to a functional Vista system. There was no error code or detailed message as to why. See the detail error code at the forums...

Vista Ultimate To Win7 Ultimate RTM Upgrade: Incompatible App Removal Error
Disk copy of Vista Ultimate used for upgrade attempt. First upgrade attempt identified several issues with apps needing to be uninstalled. First removed Trend Micro Internet Security 2008, but deferred reboot to complete, until rest of problem apps were uninstalled. After reboot, restarted upgrade install with check compatability online test (Win7 Upgrade Advistor Beta) - no problems found. Then, "install now" option taken: completed temp file copy, setup started, accepted option for "go online for latest updates...", accepted license terms, then, very quickly received the following "Check Compatability" errors: Windows needs to be restarted so necessary changes to system files can be made before continuing. For these items, make the following changes: Uninstall these programs. Open Control Panel and search for "uninstall a program". Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 - Examination of registry and installed programs and features list shows no sign of uninstalled app.

Fail Upgrade To Win7 Ultimate RTM 32 Bit From Vista Ultimate 32 Bit
I just tried the upgrade from Vista 32bit Ultimate to Windows 7 32 Ultimate. Several issues occurred. First the install uses an incorrect version of jraid.sys (I suspect it may be a 64 bit version from what I have read on various posts). After copying the files the system reboots and fails as the jraid.sys file is corrupt or wrong version. I booted the Vista load and copied the Vista version of jraid.sys from windowssystem32drivers to $Windows.~BTwindowssystem32drivers and the system reboots Windows 7 and continues the install process. As it gets to the final stage, I get a message that the upgrade has failed (with no other info) and a rollback to Vista occurs. the $Windows.~BTsources ollback folder has a setupact.log file that details the roll back but the setuperr.log file is empty. Any suggestions?

Upgrade To RTM From Vista Not Progressing
I am attempting to do an In-Place upgrade of Windows 7 RTM x64 onto Vista Sp2 x64. Everything seemed to go smoothly except that it is currently stuck at 62% on the last step. It has been stuck there from about 5 hours now. It goes between "Please Wait" and "Transferring files,settings,ect. xxxxx out of xxxxxx". It will not progress at all though; it is stuck on a particular file.What should I do about this? Wait 5 more hours? Restart the computer and pray?Â

Upgraded Vista Ultimate To Win7 Ultimate RTM Ok, But Boot Screen Is Still Vista's
I got my copy of Win & Ultimate and a legal key from TechNet, did an upgrade of my Vista Ultimate computer. All went well and other than my new copy of Norton Internet Security 2009 not working (long story for another thread). The problem I'm having is that the boot screen (Starting Windows with the 4 colored balls and the windows logo) did not change, I still have the old Vista one with the boring green progress bar. I never dual booted this system and I have tried the fixes out on the net - using an administrator command prompt to send: bcdedit /set {current} locale en-US or bcdboot %WinDir% /l en-US Neither one worked. This is not a fatal flaw, but it is annoying in an otherwise perfect upgrade. Is there a registry setting I can change or another fix to try for this? It used to be easy to change the boot screen in XP and not too hard in Vista, how do I get my correct boot screen back in Windows 7?

Event log entries: ------------------- Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller: Driver initialized successfully. Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller: Network controller configured for 100Mb full-duplex link. A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the Network Store Interface Service service to connect. The Network Store Interface Service service failed to start due to the following error:The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. The DNS Client service depends on the Network Store Interface Service service which failed to start because of the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. ------------------------ From http://www.speedyvista.com/services/Network_Store_Interface_Service.php I find the following definition for this service: - Stopping this client loses internet connections. - Delivers network notifications to clients. Stopping the service will cause loss of network connectivity. As you can see the failure of this service is causing the DNS client (and other network related services) to fail at boot. Looking at the last entries in the upgrade's setupact.log (found in C:$WINDOWS.~BTSourcesPanther) you see it hang on the SendDiagnostics step. I suspect it hangs because it fails to send the diagnostics info over the internet to Microsoft (just a guess as to what this step does). Upgrade From Vista Failed At 72% Rebooting Loop
It was running Vista SP2 with all latest patches applied. I'd run the Upgrade Advisor and, as advised, removed Kaspersky Internet Suite 2009, Microsoft Mobile Centre 6.1 (I think that's what it was called), and a Dell modem program. I restarted to complete the A/V uninstall.I downloaded the ISO image and used Roxio to burn to DVD.Install got stuck at last stage ("Transferring files, settings etc") at 72%, so I left it overnight, but still no joy. So I restarted If I select the Windows 7 option it gets to "Setup is starting services" then I get the error message:"The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation."I click OK, it says "Setup will continue after restarting your computer", but then after restarting, I end up with the same error message.If, after restarting, I select the "Windows Setup Rollback" option it gets as far as the pretty blue screen with the white bird, then restarts the laptop and I'm back at the menu to select either "Windows 7 or "Windows Setup Rollback".I haven't yet tried any of the Advanced Boot Options (F8).So, in summary, I'm stuck with a machine that wont get into Windows 7 and wont rollback to Vista.

How To Restore Vista After Win 7 Upgrade Failed At 75%
I have a Toshiba laptop x205 Vista Ultimate x32 3GB 250GB drive with 70GB free. I tried to upgrade to Windows 7 x32. I ran the Upgrade advisor and removed the itunes and Bluetooth software as requested. The report was otherwise fine and the initial compatibility test went through without issue as well. The install made it to about 75% when a popup display out of disk space but the install seemed to continue for a bit then the laptop restarted. I chose the resotre option but it booted into Win7 splash screen and then rebooted again. I cannot finish win7 nor restore to vista.I donwloaded the Windows AIK and installed it on my WinXP PC. I created a boot cd so that I could get into a command screen to acces the harddrive. I deleted some large applications (autodesk) to make more room but no luck.  I have a backup but its a few months old and not sure how to get it loaded anyhow since the laptop won't boot without restarting itself. I'd like to get a proper boot cd that runs some minimal version of an OS so I can delete more files if necessary. I know the registry will be off but at least I can ensure there is space available. I'd also like to get my data backup again. I guess a restore of vista would be great.Any ideas would be appreciated.

Upgrade To Windows 7 RTM From Vista X64 Ultimate Stuck
Just wanted to state that I encountered the "stuck" issue as well, but on my machine it was stuck at 32% for hours on a machine with over 1 million files. I powered down my machine and it restarted in Vista with no problem, although there were three new folders obviously created during the upgrade to hold installation files. I've deleted those folders.I was unable to find a log file that might indicate the file(s) which were causing the "stuck" condition. NOTE TO MICROSOFT: It would be GREAT if you could provide more on-screen feedback about what specific file or setting is being migrated, and some onscreen indication of the location of a log file (if it exists) where one could go to find out how far the process went. You display every file as it is installed in Visual Studio. Why be so obscure during the upgrade process in Windows 7?In my case, I've been testing Win7RC in a separate partition via dual-booting. I zapped that partition and did a clean install of Windows 7 RTM, which went off without issue. I've been re-installed my programs (a pain, but I'll only put on what I need). In the meantime, I've still got my Vista partition to boot up in if I need anything there.

I was trying to upgrade from Vista Home Premium 64-bit to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, after all the processes when it finally starts booting into Windows 7 (almost after 2 hours process), the message came that the Upgrade has failed and restoring back to previous version of Windows. I am wondering what the problem could be. Though it has very gracefully restored back to Vista now without any data/file loss.I ran the Upgrade Advisor also, and it suggested to remove Windows Virtual PC and Daemon Tools. I did that. My notebook is Dell XPS 1530, Intel T8100 2.1GHz, 4GB RAM, and there was 26GB free space available.I checked technet also but couldn't find any solution there. Outlook 2007 Start Fail After Upgrade From Vista To Win 7 RTM
i use Vista 32 Enterpise version, today i upgrade for windows 7 RTM enterprise version. after upgrade intall, i found outlook 2007 fail to start. error message: the file C:My documentsoutlookoutlook.ost cannot be opened but the fact is, the file is there. i change nothing. i am still using outlook 2007 before upgrade. any help?

i made an upgrade from windows vista enterprise to Windows 7 enterprise, during the installation process i received an error message message that said that the setup cannot continue due to a corrupted file (i have downloaded the windows 7 iso file from http://technet.microsoft.com/fr-fr/windows/cc442495.aspx?ITPID=wtcfeed I tried to reboot and select the option "Rollback" Windows 7 but i always received some error and i cant log into my new windows 7 installation. After that, i made a reboot and pressed F8 to choose an advanced options, i choose boot from last good known configurations. After that i was able to logon to the new windows 7 installation but a lot of problems come when i trie to check my data stored in another partitions of the same hard drive. Windows shows that i already have almost 300Go of data on the second partitions but when i tried to open any folders, thy are all empty, so it seems that o lost everthing on that partition. The weirdest thing in that is that every folders are there but thay dont have any content. So, even i selected the UPGRADE option and NOT the CLEAN INSTALL option there is no data in inetpub folder by example that was not supposed to when you select the UPGRADE option. So there is a way to rolback to installation of windows 7 or at least be able to see my data that are stored in a different partition that the Windows 7 installation partition ?? Please help me, it is almost the end of the wolrd for me, i lost everything on every partitions that i had.

Can You Upgrade A Technet Vista License With A Technet Win 7 RTM ?
I have a test machine that has a Technet Vista Ultimate x64 OS. I have attempted to do an upgrade installation of Win 7 Ultimate x64. The installation goes almost to the end, then I get the "upgrade was not successful" and it rolls back to Vista. I do have Intel Matrix RAID 5 as a boot drive, which might be the culprit. But I upgraded to the v8.9 drivers which are supposed to support Windows 7 RC1. Is there a restriction against upgrade installations of Technet licenses to Technet licenses? I don't want to chase my tail on this if it's a prohibition.

Win 7 Upgrade Failed Rollback Failed
I foolishly (in retrospect) tried to upgrade my Vista Ultimate to Win7 Ultimate (RTM). After a hour or so of working away copying files and setting etc, I returned to the machine (Lenovo T500) to find an error message - "driver cannot be installed" or something close to it with no indication of which driver it was referring to. It indicated the upgrade was going to cancel and revert. However, the next step just opened a Dos box and stopped. When I looked at the msg it indicated basically that "winpeshl.ini present but no cmds" and gave a long path to rollback.exe. I searched for the rollback cmd, and executed the same on as in the message "rollback.exe, "/upgrade" " but nothing happened. I eventually just rebooted and started Windows 7 which was an option (I forget the other option but it did nothing - I tried it first.)So, I have Windows 7 running but with none of my old programs installed! I really want to get those back rather than try to recover the entire machine from scratch. I have several folders on the C drive: $inplace.~tr, $upgrade.~os and #windows.~ls and @windows. ~Q.So I know the old programs are there and all the old setting as well (in those folders). Question is, how can I restart the install to get it to bring those programs and setting into play? I see no options anymore at boot time. Is there a program in one of these folders I can run to kickstart the upgrade to install the settings and programs?thanks(frustrated with what should be a no brainer installation)

Upgrade Path Problem - Win 7 RC To Vista To Win7 Upgrade
I installed Win 7 RC on a new build and purchased Vista Home Premium 64bit OEM with upgrade to Win 7 Home premium. The Win 7 upgrade disc has arrived. I understand that Vista must be installed and activated for the upgrade to work. Attempts to install Vista with Win 7 RC running or booting from the Vista disc lead to error code 0x80070103, insufficient free space. My HDD has > 450 Gb free space in 2 partitions. Do I need to reformat the HDD in order to install Vista over Win 7?

Cannot Upgrade From Vista To Win7
I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate x64 Service Pack 1. I downloaded the ISO of Windows 7 RC 1 and used Nero 9 to burn a DVD. Using both the DVD to perform and upgrade and copying the contents of the DVD to a separate hard drive and performing an upgrade from there, I get the following error:"Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x8000FFFF" I'm pretty sure both the DVD and the hard drive sources are clean and free of physical errors Any thoughts?

Vista To Win7 Upgrade Just Keeps Rebooting Over And Over
My upgrade from 32 bit Vista Home Premium to 32 bit Windows 7 Home Premium seemed to go ok. All five steps were completed but when Windows attempts to boot a message along the bottom of the new Windows screen says the installation was not successful, the previous version of Windows will be restored and not to restart the computer during this time. However Vista never gets restored and the Starting Windows screen appears again and goes through the same cycle. So I don't know now if I have any operating system. Windows 7 won't boot and there is no sign that Windows Vista has been restored. It seems obvious that I should power down the computer but I'm not sure I'd be able to boot up again.

I do NOT want to reinstall all of my applications (and possibly cannot) after switching to Windows 7! This could take days. I am currently running Windows XP. It appears that Windows 7 will not install over Windows XP and keep everything running. It is possible to upgrade from Windows XP to Vista and keep all of your applications intact. Win 7 documentation implies that it is possible to upgrade from Vista to Win 7 and not lose your applications.Is the easy way to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 to first go from XP to Vista and then Vista to Win 7?

How To Remove Vista After Upgrade To Win7 ?
I finally upgraded computer from Vista to Windows 7. MAJOR IMPROVEMENT. However I still have Vista on computer, as when I reboot it gives me the option to run Windows 7 or Vista. I have Windows 7 Ultimate and I no longer need to use Windows Vista of course. And if I am correct it is taking up memory on CPU. Drive CÂ has 24.3 GB available of 62.4GB. And Drive D has 322MB available of 9.99GB. So I would like to clear more space by removing Vista.Can someone please explain in detail, step by step how to properly remove Windows Vista from computer. I have only found articles how to remove Vista to go back to XP. I hope I do not have to reinstall Windows 7 all over again!

Upgrade Win7 From Vista (both 64 Bit)
I think I may have jumped the gun buying the Win7 Upgrade during the half off sale a few months ago. I'm running Vista64 on a XPS laptop and just received the Win7 Upgrade product today. Now I read that no upgrade in place exists for 64bit os's. Right? If I'm wrong there, then no need to answer the rest. If that is true, can I dual boot Vista/Win7? A book I bought on Win7 shows a way to use the upgrade product to do a complete clean install, so I could do the dual boot. If I am forced to use dual boot, will I need to reinstall all apps or can I use one of the migration tools to give Win7 access to the all the apps I already have installed? If I'm forced to reinstall all apps, how will apps like Office treat this install? In other words, would it consider itself as two installs? (1 vista, 1 Win7) If instead a complete clean install is required, again, does anyone know how Office would treat the reinstall?
