The first time I start a browser after each reboot, I get a Windows Explorer crash, but it's not a full blown crash. It just says "Windows Explorer has stopped working", but it doesn't seem like it closes and restarts.
I first noticed it with Firefox, but then I switched back to Google Chrome. Same things. I haven't tried IE because, well, I don't use it. After that, I never see it again until a reboot.
I'm on Windows 7 x64.
Crash details below...

I read through a few threads with similar topics but the issues were either not quite the same and/or resolved comparatively easily. I am trying to repair a 1.5 year-old HP Pavilion running Windows 7 Home Premium 64. This machine is used as the main office computer in a small doctor's office. In spite of my warnings, anti-virus software was not installed until it was too lateThere was a major issue about seven months ago that required another company to repairThe problem is explorer.exe will not run. Double-clicking a shortcut on the desktop, clicking the text name of a program from the Start menu, and even in the cmd results in the same response, a dialog box pops up stating windows explorer has stopped working.
windows is checking for a solution to the problem. followed by another box stating windows explorer is restarting. But the requested application never starts. I have run the Ultimate Boot CD 4 Win, replaced the hard drive and cloned all data, run numerous registry scans, malware scans and antivirus scans. Initially removing over 1500 virus/malware hits and over 1400 registry errors. But the main problem persists, explorer.exe won't open programs.
I'm putting this in Windows 7 because it does this with all browsers. Initially, it did it with Google Chrome, but after I uninstalled it, it started up Firefox when I pressed the control button. I have no idea how it started, I restarted my computer and it still persisted.
My windows started to crash ... when I open Some games .. Like Dragon nest , need for speed , 2 RO clients .. etc ... my pc crash when I open i always went black out but I can still hear the sound coming from my Pc
I currently have a Netgear rangemax wnr834bv2 running ddwrt and acting as a repeater for a linksys vonage router. This setup has worked for a while to give wifi coverage to my house. I currently have 1 xp home computer on via wired connection to the linksys router, 1 xp pro computer on wired connection to the netgear router, 1 xp media center laptop on a wireless connection to whichever router is closest. Until thursday of last week, i also had 1 win7 computer connected wirelessly to the netgear router.
Last thursday, for some unknown reason, i woke up to find that everytime the windows 7 computer tried to connect, the router would reboot and give the computer limited connectivity. If I rebooted the win7 computer, then i could connect, but the connection would stay active just long enough to check email, then the router would do a soft reboot and would then give limited connectivity again. Other computers connected wirelessly or wired, would simply re-establish the connection and work fine.
I chose a restore point before thursday on the win7 computer and it works, only for about 12 hours or so, then i come home and have to restore again. I have turned off active updates and i check to see if anything has been changed, but i cannot find anything.
Has anyone heard of this happening or would know what to even check. So far, i bought another router to test with just 1 new 'win 7 compatible' router and it did the same thing. i'm just stuck.
When attempting to wake up my wife's PC from sleep, the computer will hang for a few seconds at a black screen and then reboot. This is followed by the standard Windows has not shut down properly message asking if I want to launch into safe mode. This has been happening the past few weeks. It's Windows 7 64-bit. I've attached the results of the SF Diagnostic tool.
Stuff I've tried:
- Turning off hybrid sleep
- Uninstalling and reinstalling the Realtek USB WiFi adapter (network adapter problems came up on some google searches)
I am at a loss of what to do, I have tried everything but come up empty every time. Here are my specs:
Windows 7 64bit Intel Core I7 - 2600k CPU @ 3.40ghz Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 motherboard 8GB ram Nvidia 550TI 500W power supply
I was beta testing a new online game called Star wars the old republic, my old much slower rig ran the game fine, but I was in dire need of an upgrade. All my specs listed are new parts except the power supply. They were installed prior to the game, as well as a new install of windows 7 on a formatted hard drive.I was running the game maxed out settings with forced anti aliasing. My computer would subsequently crash into a reboot loop upon entering the game world. The computer it would turn on, you would see the F12 for boot menu etc then crash restart in an infinite loop.Updated the bios for my new motherboard I thought my power supply was the issue so I unplugged all the fans except one + the CPU fan. Computer still crashed upon launching the game.I burned the .iso of my OS onto a dvdr, so I put it in hoping to repair some files + finished updating, the game finally launched.Turn to today, the the beta was over, so I install bad company 2. Thinking the power issue wasn't the problem I plugged all my fans back in, and cranked the settings up, load into the game. I crash within 20 seconds of a multiplayer game.Research shows my particular motherboard is prone to the reboot loop (Great) it however works just fine when normal shutdown/start up occurs. Some have told me my OS is corrupt, or it's a ram frequency issue. I am not too tech saavy when it comes to computer, but I dont know what else to do. I spent a good chunk of change trying to upgrade my system and I can't play any games/intensive programs except BROWSE the internet Just went into advanced BIOS and turned off the motherboard gpu, at it was set to be on, it is now set to be on when no card is present. Game now crashes, but 1 minute later than normal?
When I stop any windows service using net stop <service name > from command prompt and reboot my machine, then a particular service that is set as automatic by default shouldn't start. Any way to achieve this using batch script or by any other means?
I am trying to install windows 7 on a Dell 3100 with 1.5gb ram 250 gb hd 2.20 ghz with an Nivdeo 8800 graphics card. I get pass the first installation but when i have to restart and it says"Updating Registry" And goes back to the Windows 7 installation screen the computer crashes and when it restarts and i try to get to boot up back windows 7 it reaches the screen that says"Starting Windows"Then restarts all over again,Any tips to fix this?P.S Safe mode don't works either and yes the Computer is windows 7 compatible.
ever since upgrading my gpu from a hd4870 to an 6870 a year ago i've been plagued with problems of skype crashing my games and sometimes my entire pc. its gotten a bit better since i updated everything i possibly could but it's still a major annoyance that i can't seem to fix no matter how much i try to troubleshoot it on my own.skype runs fine all by itself, zero problems there. however, when you start up a game (any game, its has no prejudices towards any particular one) it will eventually crash, causing the game to crash along with it and force a reboot since the entire desktop will be bugged out with graphic glitches. anything open during the crash will also crash and burn, like web browsers, and they can't be opened again until the pc is rebooted.
so far i've had crashes on diablo iii, minecraft (bsod that actually ruined a world since i was running a hamachi server), left4dead 1 and 2, and most recently borderlands.i also used to get hard freezes when watching Internet videos, but that stopped occurring once i disabled all hardware acceleration in adobe flash. i've looked into the event log and saw a bunch of errors but its all along the line of "skype stopped working" and doesn't seem to really give any pertinent info as to why it crashed my system.also, this never happened with my older gpu but i'm reluctant to put it back in due to how much faster the 6870 is. i've gotten to the point where i'm tempted to buy a 7000 series card but am afraid it won't actually fix the problem.
This afternoon when I got online and opened Internet Explorer to my homepage the entire layout was changed, I do not know why since i have not upgraded or downloaded anything new, I have windows 7 Professional, and use Internet Explorer 8. Does anyone know how to change the looks of IE8, I have done system restore and all the other resets that I know. The page color changed, the layout has changed and it has all sorts of things I do not wish to have on the page, even the font size seems to have changed. I run Norton 360 2012 and have good protection.
why do I see internet explorer cache when I don't use it as a browser? I use firefox, but every time I do a c.c., a pretty big cache of temp internet files comes up for internet explorer. Is this the result of windows updates? or is something nefarious going on?
Is there a way to stop internet explorer or any browser from opening up by itself...? New computer is launching internet explorer on its own and multiple windows of the MSN homepage when I do attempt to browse. Is this problem caused by a virus, or a defect in the operating system? I have not downloaded any programs other than the manufacturers Windows Office., and my setting are still the "defaults"
I cannot get rid of Firefox as my default browser - I've tried everything suggested, but each has a "roadblock". I will follow directions, then what I need is missing, almost as if Firefox has deleted things to self protect. There is no ADD DELETE PROGRAMS,the Folder Types section has no tab for what you ask, places where I should click the Internet Explorer name only contains Mozilla Firefox
My internet explorer browser (I believe I have 9 version installed) does not display some web pages properly in Windows 7. These same web pages have no problems when displayed through Google Chrome. I have tried to re-install the browser to no avail. Curiously, this happened after my wireless router had stopped connecting to the internet and I had to unplug the modem/router, restart the computer..I am sure I am overlooking something very simple to correct this.
For the past 2 days, whenever I have used Mozilla firefox 12.0, after sometime, the browser hangs up and it tells that the browser has stopped responding. The same time, windows explorer also hangs and freezes soon. I will have to restart and then same thing happens again. I tried Chrome also, but the result was same. the browser freezes, and soon after explorer also freezes. I have also noticed that the disk space in the C drive is also getting reduced. In one day 5gb of space has been added up. I have installed and tested with windirstat. Now even the yahoo messenger freezes (not responding) every time and other applications too. I have scanned with MAlwarebytes and Security essential and could not find any infection. For the past 3 days, I can't watch flash videos in Mozilla. Today, several time the same thing happened to chrome also and it says the player crashed.
my windows oftenly crash everytime i refreshes the desktop for more than 3 times or open a larger memory folder.(eg. documents or the C:drive) this is the details of the crashes.
A lot of people I have discovered within the last few days have had a problem with right clicking in explorer, causing it to crash. This occurs of Vista, and 7 (7100 atleast) when you install an app, and it installs a context menu shortcut or whatever.
The simple way to get rid of the crashing is by going to "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT*shellex ContextMenuHandlers" in regedit.exe, backing up the whole ConxtentMenuHandlers folder, and then start deleting all of them one by one (you can start with the ones you've been meaning to get rid of anyway ) and continuously testing the right click. Be careful not to click on an actual folder when opening of explorer after the crash because for me that seemed to solve the problem temporarily. Instead just open up your username folder and right click on a file until it stops. Of course import the Context folder after you find it, test explorer once again by right clicking to make sure you found the problem, and delete the file that caused the problem.
I have read the past posts regarding this issue and I have tried the so called hotfix that Microsoft issued regarding this issue but it did not work.
Asus G74sx Intel i7 2670qm processor 16gb ram Windows Ultimate 64bit version I have done the hotfix, I have ran check disk, I have run Norton 360, I did not have this problem before the last windows update. I even tried rolling back. I got fed up and ran the recovery disk that came with my laptop, and I still have the same problem.
my explorer crash when i connect or disconnect USB device, in this case flash drive.it's not everytime, but frequently happen.I already tried CCleaner.
I've done a new install of win7 ultimate & im getting random reboots & often explorer.exe crash's which force me to reboot often. I have included a bsod dump file & a screen shot of the cpu-z of the memory & hopefully someone can let me know what the problem might be,
Every time I start my laptop it gets past the welcome screen and then goes black and a window appears stating that Windows Explorer has stopped working. I use task manager to get to Run. I attempt to start explorer.exe but the task manager crashes as well. The same thing happens in Safe Mode and i can't get to MSCONFIG to run a clean boot.[CODE]
If I click on one directory I get "Windows Explorer has stopped working". It used to be fine but crashes WE every time now. A colleague suggested right click and reset the properties, but right click causes the crash too.I can open it remotely from an XP system, and I can navigate it in a DOS box so I know the files are all still good.Disk check says "No problems".Sophos anti-virus scan finds nothing. Malwarebytes scan finds nothing.None of these crash or report corruption.
With my Windows Seven, when going to Control Panel / Programs / Associate un file type or a protocol to a program (translated from French, not sure it is exactly this...), it crashs explorer before the list displays....?
Today I started my PC without problems...logged in...then I clicked the My Documents button in RocketDock. Something weird happened. I get the error : Windows Explorer Crashed .I tried in Safe Mode and it worked ?! I scanned with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO but only an adware. Restarted and still the same problem . It's annoying because if I want to access my files I need to use Free Commander

I have a problem with my Windows 7. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. The problem is that when I try to enter a certain folder in my external hdd explorer crashes... Can it be the size of folder? It's 524GB big... Maybe explorer can't take it? Just upgraded from Vista and I had no problems on Vista what so ever... I've tried CCleaner and other pc cleaning software.
I am getting the explorer.exe error multiple times in the day, I have also repair installed and also restored the system at the safe state of system but after sometimes the error occurs as before. I have also done sfc/scannow system file checking but it says the system does not have any integrity problems.
