1) Is this the correct Service Pack 1 installation file for Windows 7 Professional 64-bit?
Windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe
2) Do I need to download and install any of the other .Symbols files from the website?
3) I am installing a new PC with Windows 7 Professional RTM from the DVD. Can I install SP1 immediately after installing Windows 7, or do I need to do a Windows Update first?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble installing sp1 despite other windows updates having been flawless so far. I tried following instructions found at the Windows site but the System Update Readiness Tool didn't find any errors and repair installation aborts. Sorry to bother you with another "sp1 fail" thread but I have exhausted my search options for solution here and in other sites, which makes this request for help my last resort.

I installed Service Pack 1 for Windows 7. After it rebooted, on the Windows 7 loading screen it shows "Applying update operation XXXX of XXXX". After a certain number it says "Error applying operation XXXX of XXXX", and then the system proceeds to hang on that screen, meaning that I am unable to access Windows. I try mashing F8 for my life when resetting the computer, but I never get a list of boot options, so I cannot get into Safe Mode or even try the computer's Last Known Good Configuration. The edition of this version of Windows 7 is 64 bit Ultimate. The laptop I am using is also 64 bit Ultimate.
Another thing I want to point out is that both of these computers have been taking an incredibly long time (near 12 hours at this point) trying to download and install Service Pack 1. There is no spyware or anything running in the background. I am fearing that I might get the same error on this machine but I have taken the liberty of creating a System Restore point in the event it happens. I have two other Windows 7 machines in the house (32 bit Professional and 64 bit Home Premium), and both of them installed Service Pack 1 without any kind of problem, and both of those computers installed them rather quickly.
I have tried to install this update six times today (07/05/12) after it was flagged as an important update this morning. Looking at my update history it also failed to instal on the 18th October last year but it has not bothered me since and i have not noticed it until now. Of the seven attempts I had the following error codes from earliest to latest : 800B0100, 80246007, 80010108, 8024200D, 8024200D, 8024200D, 8024200D. I have followed advice from MS running KB947821 and FIX IT also disabled my Norton 360 firewalls and auto protect but to no avail. Also I do not have a DVD with Windows 7 as it was not supplied with my PC and I don't want to restore my computer and lose all my installed software.

I reinstalled Windows recently, but it used the same boot partition from my old installation. I got rid of the old partition (it was on the wrong hard drive) and created a new one with the repair disc. Windows boots, but won't install updates. Bcdedit outputs The boot configuration data store could not be opened. The system cannot find the file specified.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a 128gb Crucial M4 SSD. The other day my father and I sat down together to work on setting up the SSD as my OS drive. We installed Windows 7 64bit Home Premium successfully on the drive. There were no issues until I started to install drivers liberally rather then conservatively. While installing ~101 Window's Updates, I impatiently started installing my XFX Radeon 6870 drivers. This caused a crash and a blue screen to appear. After rebooting the system in Safe Mode, everything appeared fine. However, my video card drivers were in a weird funk. After some research, I resolved the issue and my video card drivers were all working and installed successfully. The big problem now is that when trying to Install Service Pack 1, I get an error code upon reboot that says "D_S_S_SUCCESS(0x0)". During the installation of Service Pack 1, the install stops about half-way and wants me to reboot the system, so I do. Rebooting the system is when I get the error code. The screen that pops up says that the install was unsuccessful. I've looked around on Microsoft's website to find some help. So far I've performed the following tasks:
Downloaded a tool by Microsoft called Mrfixit. I've ran troubleshooting that attempts to fix windows update. I've ran disk cleanup to delete temporary files, which won't even delete everything... I've uninstalled any virus software System Update Readiness Tool I've tried renaming the systems distribution folder..(Was this bad?) When I renamed my systems distribution folder to SDold... it created another one... Should I delete my systems distribution folder? Is there anyway to revert this? I hope I didn't ruin anything by doing this. I have no clue what to do next to fix this issue. I'm really concerned I'm damaging my Solid State Drive by all this constant rebooting and installing/uninstalling.
I downloaded the service pack last night. It installed with no problem. Sort of embarrased to say this, but I have been unable to get into Farm Town on Face Book today. It's the first time I tried since installing the service pack. This has happened on both the desktop and laptop. Both are Windows 7 64 bit.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI run Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Are there any incompatibilities that could cause problems if I install the service pack? I figured I'd wait until now to install it to ensure that most bugs would be fixed, but are there any major lingering ones?
View 4 Replies View RelatedService pack one refuses to install. My computers specifications are available in my profile. I had service pack one installed fine before but I was forced to do a clean install and now it won't install, I've also tried the standalone installer for the service pack. Auto update just doesn't download and standalone installer stops about halfway, around the area where it should ask to restart. Internet explorer 9 won't install either plus any other update from windows update.I'm using Comodo internet security but before I was using MSE and the problem still occurred then.

I've been getting notifications for Service pack 1 for the last 2 months, so about 2 weeks ago I decided to install the update. The first time of trying it didn't install and after 3 other attempt it still hasn't worked. The update runs and downloads all the components then restarts. As soon as the Laptop goes to boot up it says configuring. It then goes to 10% and stops and aborts. The Laptop restarts again and configures back to default setting and starts normally again with a box saying Service pack installation was unsuccessfully. After a bit of research I found out that I may need to install System Update Readiness Tool. This programme will not install on my pc either for some reason?.
View 12 Replies View RelatedEven though 130 updates were done on my reformatted laptop, Windows Service Pack 1 was not one of them and it's still not showing up as an available update. When I go to Microsoft to download it, there are multiple (pretty large) files to download. The largest and first file is 1.9 GB, and I'm wondering if that contains all of the other single files? Can someone tell me if that is the one I need to download?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a PC running windows 7 64-bit and I am finding it impossible to get windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) to install. I start the installation and it seems to run for more than an hour and appears to be installing OK; but when I restart the PC I get an error saying that the installation was not successful and it the rolls back to where it was before I started the installation. I have tried to install a numbr of times, but without success.I have also tried:
* Stopping all non-essential start-up items by disabling them booting on startup using msconfig.
* Stopped all firewall and anti-virus from running during installation
* Run the Windows Update System Readiness Tool (kb947821) before the installation
* Run the Windows Update troubleshooter
* Running the installer from within Windows Update, as a standalone x-64 bit installed downloaded from Microsoft, and as an iso file burned to a DVD
* Run sfc.exe /scannow which reported no errors.
Other Windows Updates seem to install OK - it is just the SP1 update that refuses.[For info: I have another PC that I recently updated (clean install) from XP to Windows 7. I had a similar problem on this PC after I had performed all the other Windows Updates and instaleld my normal suite of programs. SP1 also refused to install. In the end, I reistaleld Win 7 from disc and then immediately installed SP1 before installing any other updates or programs. SP1 installed OK. However I do not want to follow this route on my main PC as it has a load of programs installed which will take a few days to reinstall if I have to start from scratch].
