Dec 4, 2009i just got windows 7 and already see two major problems. one, my graphics card needs to get a driver update but they dont support windows 7 on the website!. I have an NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX Series (yes its old as hell) and ive read that installing the vista or xp drivers wont work regardless. what should I do? does anyone know if i can buy a better graphics card for my laptop?
my friend told me HP laptops are made customized for the specific graphics card and i would have to buy another laptop. i am not down to spend 2000 bones on a new laptop with everything working with windows 7 on this current one with the only flaw an outdated driver!!! Is there some other downloadable updates I can find to get my card working?
also, as some people mentioned before, i cannot get the brightness slider to show up in my power settings options. do you think it has something to do with the outdated graphics card i have? So far i havent updated it with any drivers. I really dont want to buy a new laptop...and i also dont want to waste all the money i spent on video games if i cant play them without a driver anymore..

Nov 16, 2009Odd situation. I have two video cards a geforce4 MX 4000 and built in Intel Q965/Q963 installed in a HP dc5700 with 1GB of RAM running Windows 7 Enterprise fresh install. The onboard Intell has the latest drivers from HP and the nVidia I got working using the 81.98 forceware driver.
If I select the nvidia card as the main video card in the BIOS the display will show up on just one monitor (the one plugged in to the card), if I look in the device manager it sees both cards w/o errors yet I have no option for dual display, if I click on "detect" it finds nothing. Also all the nvidia software runs fine.
However if I select the onboard card as the default then the display goes on just it's monitor but this time in device manager the nvidia card has the "windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (code 43)" message and obviouly no option for dual monitors.
It would seem both drivers and monitors are working since they work independantly, it's just that Windows7 doesn't seem to want them to play together. Also this situation worked fine when pc was WinXP.

List Of Compatible Sound Drivers
Jun 23, 2009I have seen a few posts of people trying to get a list together of sound cards that WILL work in Windows 7. Surely the moderator could compile and forward this request to MS to see what they have to say? I mean, we can't all be dumb! They also can't expect us to throw away our expensive cards just because there are no drivers. Of course, it's not MS's fault that a third party manufacturer doesn't update their drivers, and we all expect Creative Labs to drop us like a hot stone once they have our cash in their greedy little paws, but there HAS to be a solution somewhere? (Solution 1: make mental note not to buy Creative Labs *anything*, and I'm basing this on experience stretching back a bit).
My sound is from an onboard chip, so I will probably have to purchase a new card just to get sound. I have tried everything: BIOS enable/disable audio, get drivers from the Fujitsu site for a SCALEO 800s (you try that one...good luck), uninstall Windows 7 updates, move IRQs around, allow ESCD reset in BIOS, XP compatibility mode...no luck. The chip is a Sis 7012 with ESS ES1968 Maestro-2, according to those lovely driver update applications that are all FREE until you have to put in your credit card; you know the type.
The only thing hardware manufacturers CAN design and implement properly is a cash register, because that's all they seem to want. Once you've made the purchase, they don't want anything to do with you. MS, please come to the rescue with the following:
a) a list of Windows 7 compatible sound cards - LEGACY - ,
b) a list of new cards on/near the market
c) a more subtle compatibility mode that will say "I haven't found your driver, but in the interests of your sanity, click OK for me to install a compatible one until we get this mess sorted out."

May 6, 2009I cant install Nvida driver v182.50 (32bit drivers) for my Virtual XP mode, though the screen looks fine with the generic driver but one of the software needs open GL support & uses GPU for which i need nvida drivers to be installed.
When Installing I get the error

One or two are pretty old I mean early 2000's old and when I go to install them I get an error message saying that the programs are not compatible with windows 64 bit version. My question is-is there a way to make a non compatible program compatible with 64 bit windows?
