I've seen a three year thread about this subject with no solution, I was wondering if this was possible. I know the shutdown and logon screens use the same image, but is there a way to have the shutdown a custom image and the logon and black screen? If this isn't possible would anyone have any suggestions? I have decided if this can't be done I'm just gonna leave a black background with "Shutting down Super Nintendo PC" (which you can actually see at the end of the video) I've attached a video showing my issue
Since yesterday I've noticed that whenever I access a page with grey and white colors (Hotmail, Messenger, Latest news, Sport, Music, Movies, Money and Cars from MSN UK this one is the only one so far) some lines appear and they blink, this does not happen in white or black backgrounds, I've tried removing video drivers (when these were uninstalled there were no lines, but when I installed them back again the lines came back too ), doing a flash player clean install and restarted in safe mode (when in safe mode the lines did not appear) ,My GPU is a RADEON HD 6850, and I've tried with an old driver and with a new one but no ; I don't have any other PCs so I cannot try the monitor in another one unfortunately?
Why all desktop icons appear in the Desktop folder but not on the desktop itself?I set my desktop to show the Recicle Bin icon only, but if I open the Desktop folder in Explorer they are all there: Computer, Control Panel, Libraries, Network, User's Files, and Recycle Bin.
When I save files from programs (aka Word, Photoshop, anything)onto my Desktop, I cannot see them directly from the actual desktop. I can only see them when I open up Explorer, and click on the Desktop tab. Then all my files are visible. I thought they were hidden...but they apparently aren't.It possibly seems like a refresh error.I did find a way around this..I go to Control Panel >> Appearance and Personalization >> Under Folder Options >> Show Hidden Files and Folders. I click on Reset folders, Apply, and then OK, and my missing files pop up on my actual desktop. But from then on, any new files I save are only visible in Explorer again. I don't want to go to Control Panel everytime I have to save something to the desktop? I've run Norton and Microsoft Essentials and I have no viruses. What can I do?I just found out I can also see my files after pressing f5 (refresh)so I guess the problem is HOW do I get my computer to refresh the desktop automatically?
recently i have a problem with my laptop, when restarting it loads normally but after a second desktop load something i dont know caused the desktop unclickable and the loading animation circle is still spinning, after about 2-3 minute it finished and my laptop works well as usual again (no slow), i wonder what makes that happen, sometimes its very annoying when we want to use the laptop immediately after restarting or turning on
It's strange, it's a recent problem, my desktop slideshow only works for the time setting of 3 minutes and below however whenever I go to the other time settings (5 minutes+) the slideshow stops. I've already checked my power settings and my slideshow settings are set to Available
Few days ago i am able to drag and drop any icon on desktop also file to desktop, but next morning i start my laptop i was unable to drag and drop any icon on desktop also file to desktop.I tried many method but all failed.
i using WIN 7 home premium X64bit HP 431 intel core i5 2gb ram also my setting in desktop/view/auto arrange is off in context menu the drag and drop setting is on
I've been looking around for something that can hide my desktop icons (or basically anything except my background & bottom navigation bar) if I'm not viewing the desktop. In other words, when I have a (not full screen) window open, I want to be able to see my desktop background but not the icons on it. When I "view" the desktop, or don't have anything on top of it, I want the icons back.
I have a really annoying problem with desktop icons.I use 2 monitors. 1920x1200 is the main dislay and 1600x1200 is another one for extended desktop. The thing is that I don't need it all the time so I'd like to switch the extended desktop on and off when I need it. Problem is that entering the ex. desktop just somehow changes the grid (it seems that the grid becomes more compressed in vertical direction). That means that it always messes my icons up. I don't know why do the Windows change the grid when I do not change the resolution or just anything that could possibly affect the main screen.
I have a Windows 7 Desktop mainly used as a server to store files and I have a Windows 7 Laptop used to mainly access and store files to the desktop. I do not use home groups because I find that work groups work better for what I am doing. I have researched hours and hours on forums and goggling troubleshooting tips but I can not find one thing that will fix my problem. So here it is.My laptop can see, view and access my desktop no problem. It shows up on the network and also sees the media devices on it. I can ping and view and alsp remote to desktop. So this is working as expected. My desktop however cannot see my laptop on the network. I can ping and view laptop by ip address though. I can also see the laptop as a media device. I just cannot see the laptop as a computer on the network.I have renamed work-group, reconfigured windows firewall, disabled windows firewall, and pretty much done everything basic and also some minor registry changed but converted back because problem did not fix.
I have a new Toshiba Laptop (Windows 7 64bit CORE i3). I would like to run (via usb) and old hdd from my desktop which was 32bit Windows 7. I have the old hard drive in a SATA enclosure and running it via USB to my laptop. When I attempt to either copy or read the old hard drive I get a write protect error. I have tried the MS registry changes to remove "write protection" but the registry entry they call for is non existent in my laptop registry. My last post on this was annotated as solved...but my explanation was weak. I do not want to run this drive as a permanent addition to my system, I just need to copy some files from the old drive to the new one. If I attempt to use Control Panel/Disk Management it tells me the old drive is not "initialized". Both options to initialize don't work. I have some very important medical records that must be copied from old hdd to new.
I have a Win 7 Home Premium box along with 4 WinXP boxes in a simple network. My Win 7 box can Remote Desktop to any of the WinXP boxes, and be used to "drive" them, no problem.I added a new machine yesterday that came with Win 7 Home PremiumAfter searching through other threads, I found it was stated that if I upgrade the new box to Win 7 Pro or Ultimate, I can then use my original Win 7 Home Prm to connect to, and "drive" the new Win 7 Ult. box.I successfully upgraded the new box, it's now confirmed to be running Win 7 Ultimate. I have also disabled the firewall, and checked the Remote Box Settings:Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop (less secure). However, the Home box cannot connect to the Ultimate box. It times out with the following error:Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:1) Remote access to the server is not enabled2) The remote computer is turned off3) The remote computer is not available on the network.
I have a desktop computer running Windows 7 and a thin client (Wyse V90L) running Win XP Embedded. I am using Remote Desktop to log into my desktop computer running Windows 7. The problem is that despite having set up Remote Desktop on the client to 'Play on this Computer', no audio plays. When I click on the volume control, there is no slider and instead the message 'no audio device is installed' is displayed. If I choose to leave sound at my desktop, then it functions as expected.
I cannot get my 32 bit desktop windows 7 cmputer to network with my Laptop that is a 64 bit windows 7. I would like to print and share my photos and music with my laptop.
I've tried this (Access denied to my files on another PC)and this How to Share File with Group and User Permissions in Windows XP and this How do I get round Windows 7's file permissions? - Microsoft Answers and this Change workgroup name in Windows 7? but I can't seem to get it to work.I have 3 pc's in my network. I've networked win2k machines with win98, 95, and XP, but this one has me stumped.
They're all Home Premium. I can push or pull files from M1 to M2 and visa versa. But I cannot pull or push between M1 and M3. After several hours this morning I was able to have M3 pull from M2, but I could not push and I could not get M2 to push or pull from M3.I am at wits end. I have no idea why I was able to get M3 to pull from M2...all machines have the same settings. The error I get when pushing or pulling is: I'm not opposed to rechecking everything, perhaps it's something small, but I've been trying to get this to work for weeks and can't seem to figure it out on my own. I wish they' would have left things alone with the networking like win2k. Also, quick note, the workgroup name and the network name are the same.
I'd like to setup a automated Syncing Folders from Windows 7 laptop to Windows 7 desktop and back based on newer files only via the network.. (shared folders) I am studing uni which requires me to take my laptop to classes, but when doing anything too hardcore (video editing mainly) I used the more powerful desktop machine. I want it to only sync if the files are newer, but going both ways..
Windows Update installed 14 important updates yesterday. I also uninstalled all instances of SQL Server 2008 from my machine. I just noticed the "Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine" message on the desktop tonight. Below is the requested information from MGA Diagnostic Tool.

I have a Laptop(Y50series), with windows7 OS .When i logged into my laptop i cant get my desktop ,instead of it i am directly going into my document page .And when i pressed WINDOWS key its IDLE (no response from it).
I am trying to access my other win 7 PC from a win 7 PC. I have done this with a few PC's in same location as the one I am having problems with now. I have the IP address of the PC, computer name and set everything up to allow for remote connection. When I try to access the PC remotely, the password does not seem to be recognised even though I know the password is correct. The only difference I can see form this PC and others is that when I type IPCONFIG in a command prompt, it says that the "tunnel" has "media disconnected", and it does not say this with the other PC's I remotely access from the same room.
SYSTEM REPORTING THE PROBLEM: Windows 7 SP1 x64 Home Premium TRYING TO ACCESS MACHINE RUNNING Windows XP SP3
I'm trying to connect to a network computer hooked up to a shared printer so that I can install the printer. However, when I try to connect to the target machine using either its computer name or its static IP address, I get an error: "Windows cannot access (target path) - Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose. Error code: 0x80004005 Unspecified error".
Network diagnostics revealed two problems: DETECTED - The remote device or resource won't accept the connection DETECTED - SBLSP over [MSAFD Tcpip [TCP/IPv6]] is not configured properly on this computer
My wireless adapter status reveals that IPv6 has No Internet access. IPv4 is connected to both the network and the Internet. Every service provided through my onboard wireless adapter is enabled.
I don't know why, but ever since I activated windows 7 ultimate on my new lenovo thinkpad x120e, there has been weird shadows on the windows interface (taskbar). Here are two pictures: The first one shows my Lenovo x120e destop with the weird shadows, the second one is from another one of my windows 7 pc's that do not have the shadows problem. As you can see, the taskbar on the first image had these weird shadows, and I want to make these shadows go away. All settings for appearance are the same for these two computers, but the one w/ the shadow problem has windows 7 ultimate, and the one without the problem (second image) has windows 7 home premium.first one (shadows-bad-my current x120e desktop):

I have the cd's of my Acer Win 7 OS home premium. and I have XP SP3 on my old desktop i was just wondering if it were possible to install those Win 7 cd's onto my desktop and have a dual boot setup. I thought i read somewhere a while back that its not as easy as it may sound to do so. mainly of the hardware involved..cpu and etc.
I following the thread for past conversations on this issue of the desktop appearing right in the middle of my working on a program - typing, moving from place to place on the screen or just when it's sitting idle. I did not see any solution that worked for the problem. Is Microsoft aware of it and is there a known remedy at this point. It is extremely frustrating to have it transition when I'm working.
I my computer was on last night. I did not turn it off or restart it, but when I went to get on it today it was at the logon screen. I check to see if there was an error, but there was no sign of an error.
