View 2 RepliesI've had my computer for 8 months, it's a dell inspiron 1545 running windows 7 home premium. I'm suddenly unable to start the computer as it just comes up with a blue windows 7 screen with a cursor and that's it. I've tried starting it in normal mode and and startup repair but the same thing happens with both. I ran the diagnostics test and it came up with error code 2000-0142 which after googling i've found is a hard drive problem.
Will reinstalling windows 7 wipe my hard drive?
dell laptop crashed diags show dst test fail error code 2000-0146.ready to trash the dell after less than a year.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am getting 2 error messages. chronically I get filedeviceHarddisc volume 3$Mft. like every 10 minutes. The other is E:vlc-1.0.5-win32exe. I reinstalled the vlc program and haven't seen that error message for awhile. I checked the hard drive with seagate and it is functioning properly.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried to boot in safe mode, it got stuck in mid boot. I tried to boot it with system repair, it said it was loading files and then it got stuck on a screen that said copyright Microsoft Corporation and had a green loading bar. My husband's laptop is exactly the same as mine, so I used it to create a system repair cd. I set the laptop up to boot from cd and tried it, but I got the same thing with it sticking on the green loading bar. I ran a diagnostics on my computer and everything passed except a hard drive test in which I got the error 2000-0146. I checked that error on the dell support website and it told me to take the hard drive out and plug it back in. I have not done this yet as the instructions to do so required me to disassemble the whole computer just to get at the hard drive. After some online research, I created a Knoppix (Linux based os) 6.7 boot cd and booted from the cd drive. This worked beautifully and I am now in the process of transferring all my important data from the hard drive to an external hard drive.
So here are my questions. Everything I read about error 2000-0146 says it's a hard drive failure but if that were the case, why does the hard drive seem to work fine when accessed from a Linux OS? Also, how would disconnecting and reconnecting the hard drive fix the problem? I really don't want to take it apart if I don't have too. Could the windows boot files somehow be corrupted causing it not to boot, and if so could I access them with Knoppix and replace them with good files
I get this error using both a HOme premium DVD and using the HDD on this system ... best I can tell it is not giving me options about what sort of boot to attempt. Not sure the hardware is healthy but there are no removable devices present [that is no sd card, no usb thingies plugged halfway in, just the dvd drive which is either empty or with the Windows 7 disc, depending on attempt]

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a new laptop running Win7 Home Premium. I also have another (older) laptop running the same. The problem is that although both are 64bit, the older one loaded and runs Office 2000 quite happily, but the newer one says it's incompatible!
1, Why does one comp run it and not the other?
2. How can I make it compatible?
I have an ECS H61H2-M2 mobo with a G620 cpu. Makes a nice budget rig, but I was thinking of using it as an HTPC in the near future. It only has a VGA out right now. What would be a good video card to upgrade to with HDMI and DVI? Low profile and fanless would be optimal but not mandatory.

I lauched it from the run command using the /a and it would start. I looked and there are no startup macros that run
