I pressed delete on my Documents folder by mistake, and now I have gone through an unbelievable amount of recovery softwares, and none of them will find the files. on only need a few folders back in my documents.
View 4 RepliesI noticed I had two copies of the My Documents folder, one in my user folder where I want it, and the other buried deep in my pictures folder (I think I accidentally dragged and dropped it there once when I was trying to change the order of icons in the navigation pane). I deleted the one in my pictures folder, and both folders disappeared! I closed the screen out, re-opened "my computer," and see both My Documents folders back, but empty.
1) How can I recover my files? My last backup was last week, and I've written quite a bit since then. I was actually about to back up again when I saw the annoying second folder and deleted it, not realizing they were linked. The folder was too large and bypassed the recycle bin.
2) How can I fix the two folders issue? I have the same problem with my music folder also, and have had problems with the folders under my username seeming to disappear, reappear, and move for no apparent reason. The computer has Windows 7 Professional.
I moved my documents to my desktop without meaning to. And without thinking, deleted it. I thought it was just a shortcut but turns out it was the actual folder.

Today I've been trying to get everything in order. A few minutes ago I noticed that the documents folder contained a subfolder, also named documents, so I decided to get rid of the subfolder and place the files directly in the main documents folder. When I then deleted the subfolder, all my documents disappeared (almost 9 gigabytes). They were not in the bin, and I could not redo the deletion.Luckily I see they can be found under C:/ User/ Documents, but I cannot seem to be able to copy them to replace them in the Documents

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 Home Premium, 32bit laptop. So this started with my accidentally deleting the 'My Documents'. At the time of deleting, i think it showed, My Documents is too large for recycle bin. That's why i can't find it there. (I have tried 'Recuva' to recover deleted files, but 'cause i'm not much of a computer literate, i didn't know what files to retrieve and what to leave. Though, from the files i did bring back, most are corrupted, overwritten or something.) Also, after My Documents got deleted, under 'C:Users', a padlock has appeared on my '(User Name) Folder' - but 'Public Folder' is fine. As i clicked 'User Name' properties, the 'Share With' showed - 'Nobody'. {other options available were 'Homegroup(read), Homegroup (readwrite) and Specific People'}. Shouldn't it be showing - 'Advance sharing' ?Thus, i thought maybe restoring 'User Name' folder to its previous version would work. When i did that, it said - not enough memory. i tried again, 'cause i knew there was more than half of its total capacity available. {I regularly keep a check on it.} But after repeating the restoring process, i again got 'Not Enough Memory'. Later, when i opened the C:Drive it really showed that suddenly the drive was low on space- very, very low. i tried 'disk clean' and deleted most of the things from there. Then i opened C:Drive to check. Instead of making more space, i saw 3.62 GB of Free Space lessen to 2.72 G.B ! However, i still tried for the forth time to restore 'User Name' folder to previous version and got the same regretable 'Not Enough Memory'.

It reinstalled Vista and the OS began working again whereupon I used my disks to upgrade it to Windows 7. It installed with no problem. But when I looked for my text, photo and video files, they were all gone! However iTunes was able to reload my music library. It is my understanding that F11 system recoveries do not delete text and media files. But if that's true...
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently needed to find some files (MS Word which contained a specific word). From Windows Explorer, I selected the root of the directory in which I thought the files resided, entered the word I wanted to find in the Search box, and 16 files were found.
I then repeated the search using a stand-alone search tool and it found several hundred files.
I looked at the search options and they ARE configured to search the directory in question and MS Word documents. (Since some files were found, it seems reasonable to assume that the search options are configured properly.) It also reported that my system was fully indexed.

The HP recovery was on D: with everything else on C:I deleted the Data from the D:recovery disc as I had no more use for Vista and most of the programs that came from HP would not work with Windows 7. I have recovery disc if I do need them at a later date to reinstall Vista.I installed Windows 7 Ultimate on C: This left D: partition empty. I have most recently used D which is about 13 GB for4 abackup of some of my programs.I also have another 640 GB hard disc which is G: that I use as backup for my windows system.I would like to do away with the D: partition because I can also put all my program backups on G: as well.How do I delete the D: partition and incorporate that space into the C: partition? I think I know but am not sure of myself and would like advice

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a program called BigJig, which has jigsaw files (.jg6) and my saved completed/part-done jigsaws (.sv8) files. When I had XP I always saved the .sv8 to the same folder the .jg6 was in.. Then Vista started dumping them somewhere else, despite the fact that I would tell BigJig to save to the folder I wanted them in. I finally found them.. I think they were in some user profile in application data or something. Should have moved them then, but I didn't. Well, now that I've upgraded to 7, they re back to sving where I want them, but I cannot find the ones Vista dumped in the wrong place anywhere.. search does not find any of the files, neither the .jg6 nor the .sv8, even though they are there, I can see them inBigJig, open them, mess with them etc. But some of them are in the wrong folders, and so, because I can't find them, I can't move them to where I want them to be.. if that makes sense. BigJig doesn't have a 'save as' option, so I can't save them to the right place and delete the wrong one.. I need to move them in windows explorer or my computer, but until i can find them I can't fix their locations. How can I find the actual location of these files?

That 11.26GB unallocated was the recovery partition.I was installing Ubuntu as a dual boot, and wanted to install it on its own partition. But I already had 4 primary partitions (the 1.46GB bootable recovery partition, C:, E: and the 11.26GB partition with the recovery files). So i shrunk C:,deleted the 11.26GB partiton and created the new primary partition. I later discovered it had the recovery files.Ubuntu installation needed some other partitions and it must've converted E: to a logical drive.I have installed the MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition v7.5 The results of a full quick scan: Double clicking the HHDRECOVERY partition (unallocated space) shows the recovery files: However, doing a full scan of the unallocated space also shows a small partition labeled "Boot": Double clicking that drive shows the following:However, that folder does not appear to contain any files. There was a [+] to the left of the folder, but clicking it just made it disappear since there was nothing to show. I'm not sure if I can just ignore this tiny section or not.
I am just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on how I should proceed. I have not ever attempted partition recovery or used this program before and feel like I only have one shot at this and don't want to screw it up, if it is even possible.Also, yes I did create recovery discs, I think I've done it twice, but I'm not sure where they are. I've had a good search but haven't found them. Although I've other places yet to search but so far not the opportunity. View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been working on renaming all my music for the past few weeks using a program called Tag&Rename. I have over 350 Gbs of music so it's been quite the undertaking but I've made a fair bit of progress. Until all of a sudden in the middle of renaming some albums today I was shocked to find that all my albums from A through S were just...not there anymore. All my work had just vanished for no apparent reason. I had just deleted a redundant music folder when this happened and thought that maybe I had somehow deleted more than I asked for but there's no trace of the folders anywhere not even in the recycle bin. I did a complete search of my computer looking for Bob Dylan just to see if I had somehow put all the files in some other folder by mistake but no luck. So I downloaded a bunch of free undelete software packages and scanned my hard drive and they couldn't even find the missing files. It's as if they just vanished. Is there any software out there that can help me in my search, or does anyone know what could have happened? I don't mind paying up to a hundred bucks if I can just get my lost work back. I obviously need a program that will maintain my original folder structure since renaming files and folders and changing my folder structure is all I've been doing. I have most of the music backed up on another drive but it's all mistagged and disorganized. I really don't want to start all over again.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI had to do a system restore to a prior point (two days ago) to fix a problem on a windows 7 dell PC. It worked but it moved all of my files and user profile to my C drive. I no longer see my user account when I go to start computer. I did find my files (at least some of them) under the c drive in C/OS/Users. Is there a way to automatically get them all back where they orginally were rather than attempt to manually move them and hope I'm placing them in the correct area? I also seem to have lost all of my bookmarks and cannot recover them on Firefox - is there any way to get them back?

A few days ago I picked up a particularly nasty trojan that began running ads in my desktop background - Just audio, but still annoying. I tried removing it using Malwarebytes and Spybot. Oddly enough, since then, I've had further problems. One is the browser redirects randomly to spam sites but the bigger one is I cannot access my documents (music, video etc...) or certain folders in cFor example, I have a folder on the c: drive called work. When I click on work, it comes up as totally empty - no files. When I right click it, however, I find there are 193 files at 3 gb. My document folders have also disappeared. When I go to windows / user I find by right clicking that there are hundreds of files at 40 or so gb but I cannot find any of them by searching or exploring. I have made sure all folders are on general view (ie: not just music / video etc) but this does nothing. I now just want to back up my files and blitz the PC with a full reinstall

I already did this with My Documents, My Music, My Pictures. The redirect was successful (going to the folder properties, then location and move) but then I decided it wasn't necessary and restored the default location (C:UsersPublicDocuments).ich leads to my question. After restoration, everything seems fine except I noticed the Public Documents folder in the Library no longer contains the padlocked inaccessible files named "My Music", "My Pictures" and "My Videos". Also, under :Users(name)AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsLibrariesDocuments.library-ms, I no longer see the files with the blue arrow icons (Also named My Music, My Pictures and My Videos) or the padlocked files of the same names.Will this potentially cause problems in the future? I've been trying to educate myself on Windows 7 over the past couple of years but the phantom files and shortcuts always confuse me I already restored the Public Documents folder to an earlier version but the missing files didn't reappear. I only have the desktop.ini and Thumbs.db files.

View 4 Replies View RelatedSince last Tuesday's Microsoft Windows Update, my Windows Explorer is experiencing a number of issues.The update hung for hours on "preparing to update" or some such thing.I had to manually shut the computer off several times and finally tried the safe mode start, which warned me that the update was not fully done.Now, when I click on Favorites/My Documents, it hangs; like it is searching but when the shaded bar gets to the end, it stays there and Explorer freezes. When I click on any the window, it goes whitish and a message pops up asking if I want to continue waiting or should the program be closed. I shut the program down.If I click any other item on Favorites or Libraries, even Documents within Libraries, Explorer does ok.
When I try to save a file in Photoshop or Dreamweaver or any other program, a message pops up saying the program failed to respond and gives me the option to wait or close the program.Even if I try to print to PDF, it does the same thing.In other words any time I need to save any item from within any program, the programs freeze. I even changed the save folder in PDF Phantom, from documents to downloads and still it won't save.My next step will probably be PC Restore and to hell with everything.
Windows 7 adds the .jpg xtension to many of my files which are for example:
Adobe InDesign files
Photoshop PSD files
Camera RAW files
Adobe PDF file
how I can prevent Windows from doing this? I archive my files according to the program they are created in and I need to keep all my with file original xtension.
I use adobe bridge so I do not need to view the contents of my files in any Windows Explorer window.
