Computer Wont Boot With USB Connected?
Aug 22, 2012
So the problem is my computer gets caught at "Initializing USB Controllers" whenever I have anything but my keyboard plugged in.I have tried disabling the Legacy Support option in BIOS, but so far nothing has worked besides removing all my USB devices every time I start up.

So every once and a while i experiment with my boot partitions and normally end up messing up my system, booting into a live ubuntu key, drag my data onto my external hdd, reinstall, and not lose anything. This time however, I now have another drive. My original drive is 1.5tb and new one is 160gb. I tried to install windows 7 on the 1.5tb. "can't do its a dynamic disk bro" umm ok. Tries the 160gb "can't do it bro, the other is dynamic" so I turn off and disconnect the 1.5tb and install on the 160 just fine. I install drivers, softwares, and all other necessary things. Now I turn it off and hook up the 1.5tb and tada! failure to boot. It says something like "no bootable media found" then lists my sata devices (says all but 1 are connected [ all but 1 are])

I inserted a blank CD to add music into, using iTunes 10 (maybe 11).It did the job but all of the music were incomplete and the lengths were like 8 or 6 seconds.I tried to format the CD but it didn't work. Then I got angry and smashed the keyboard, and it froze.I force shut the laptop WITH THE CD STILL INSERTED and ejected it, then turned it on again.Windows started Startup Repair and it finishes, then restarted. And again Startup Repair ran again, then it told me it can fix the problem in a new dialog box.My computer is not connected to the Internet and I'm using a substitute computer to type this.A box in the dialog box showed the following text: [code] I closed the dialog box and it told me: (translated from Japanese, may not be that accurate.)
If you connected devices such as cameras or portable music players to this computer, please ejected them and then restart the computer. If this message keeps appearing, please ask the administrator or the manufacturer of the computer. Then I click Finish to restart. And again Startup Repair showed up, and the same message showed up.I clicked something like Show Restore System Option to restore the system, but it says the restore point is broken during restoration, and when I try to restore the system again, it still doesn't work.

Background:-
System Gigabyte X48T, 4G ram, usual bits. Video
Sata Port 0&1 - Gigaraid 2x 750G Raid 0 - Scsii disk Boot.
Sata ports 2&3, 4&5, 6, - 5x 500G 2TB dynamic GPT Raid 5
Sata Port 7 -1x 750G Roms & software disk.
Rocket Raid Scsii 0_1, 5x1TB in raid 5.
Scsii 0_0, 1x500G JBOD.
Problem is here.
I have been trying to get this system ready to do extensive HD video editing and multimedia work so thumbnails are critical to sorting out 1000's of clips. Vista just doesnt show thumbnails. I have been waiting years for Windows 7.
This system is fast. Boot drive reads at over 160MB/s sec. The 2 Raid 5 arrays can copy to each other at 250MB/s plus (for multi GB files). Interesting HDTach 3.0.1 only shows 160MB's for the Highpoint array.
They will have to fix their software..
In the last few weeks the system had become very flakey - Windows 7 x64 & vista x64 system -video thumbnail display & codec errors etc, windows explorer hangs, system corruption, bad software & codecs.
The boot manager from the latest (Paragon i think) partition manager for windows 7 got stuck on resize partition and it doesnt time out. I want my pc to be always on for remote access..
Anyway the system finally crashed. I lost one of the Raid0 boot disk array IDs when I tried to delete the boot manager. One disk offline and array gone. 60 hours, 400G of newly imported video from 8mm tapes..
So I decided on clean install just windows 7 after I recovered the data on the raid array.
To that end I removed all the other disks, took a single clean disk and installed vista on it.
Then I went to Bios and deleted the GigaRaid array and recreated it with the original 2 disks.
Changed the boot order in Bios to the first Sata.
Back into windows, initialise the GigaRaid array in windows disk management -Do not partition or format it. Load GetBackDataNTFS and
scan and copy all of the data back to the spare space on the new boot disk.
When I was totally happy I had everything back I loaded Windows Disk management and partitioned the GigaRaid into 250G and 1200G. Formatted the only the 1200G and copied on all of the drivers..
I then shutdown and removed the Vista hard disk and restarted with the Windows 7 DVD. Loaded the Gigaraid drivers and proceded to install Windows 7.
On first reboot, error 80xxxx .
Back to setup and disk management. Delete the new 250G partition and let Install do its stuff. So it creates a 100MB "system" as the first partition then 260G for the C drive and installs itself.
Whoo hoooo! it works.
I shutdown and add the GPT array and the single Roms drive.
Into Bios to set the boot to the Scsii Gigaraid & restart and the dynamic array and Roms disk is there.
Shutdown and install the RocketRaid Card with its 5 disks attached.
Back to bios to set Boot to Scsii Gigaraid.
It always puts Sata 0 first.
Or Scsii 0_1 (the RocketRaid).
Boot back into windows and everything is where it should be.
Clean and fast too. Install all of the software I need.
Now I have a nice system. Time to copy the video I recovered onto the Raid5 array.
So I plug the sata cable into the disk and go into the Highpoint management to scan the disk. Come up ok and is visible in windows.
I copy the data over to the raid.
The I decide to see it the computer will reboot back into windows unattended.. Nope! Screen fills with rubbish that looks like Linux. Says changing boot disk, then stops.
I go back into Bios and reset the boot disk back to Scsii 1_0 (GigaRaid)
Reboot and press F12 for the boot menu. Select the last item - GigaRaid.
Boots back into that Linux looking system (says debian).
I disconnect RocketRaid disk 6, Scsii 0_1 and back to bios and set to Scscii 1_0, Gigaraid, reboot back into windows..
Plug the Rocketraid Scsii 1_0 and reboot - back into Linux?
Question is..
1 What is the purpose of the 100MB that windows installed onto the boot disk.
2 how do i find the boot manager that screws the system when I connect a new drive (including USB key).
3 How do I force the boot to the correct disk array regardless of which drives are installed or not.
4. Is there a boot "something" I can install on every disk to point to Scsii Gigaraid

My computer has been acting up lately,I haven't made any changes to my computer or anything but it seems to just not want to connect to the inter for more than 5 min. My othe computer on the house seems to connect fine, but mine will only connect for 5 min the can't find the network for 15 min and it does this repeatedly. I tried updating the drivers but there were no updates available. I ran the troubleshooter and it couldn't find a problem, it just said to make sure I was in range of the router, which I am because my computer was working fine in the same spot about a week ago.

I am having trouble with my laptop. It says I am connected to the internet, but whenever I open a browser( Chrome, Firefox or IE) it doesn't open any web pages. I get the message "the remote device or resource won't accept the connection". And it's not the router because we have another laptop in the house connected to the same router and it works fine. I have a Lenovo V570. Also my laptop works fine on other connections and routers, just for some reason doesn't accept this one.

Since about 1-2 months ago whenever I hooked up my phone (HTC Rezound) to my computer through my USB chord I get an error message saying that it's an unrecognized device and that it was stopped because the device has shown previous problems. I used to upload videos and pictures from my phone to my computer about once a week for months straight and I didn't have a problem with it. Is there any way that I can adjust something in my computer to fix this?

I have an Acer Aspire laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium x64.
I regularly connect it to my TV monitor via HDMI cable and fall asleep watching movies (played on VLC or Windows Media Player). I set the computer to go to sleep after 1 hour.
Multimedia Settings are set to "Allow computer to sleep" under "When Sharing Media" in the Power Management section.
Screensaver is disabled. I have overrided my audio driver, since powercfg command suggested it may be a conflict.
If I am playing a movie without the HDMI cable plugged in, the computer goes into sleep mode right on schedule. It is only when I have the HDMI cable plugged into my TV monitor, that it refuses to enter sleep mode.

2. This is the main thing that we need. We saw this implemented at a Staples. What we want is for the computer to be locked, and to unlock it, a customer has to swipe their credit card on a box connected to the computer via USB. Once the customer does this, they can use the computer, and a small timer in the corner shows how much time has been used, since they are being charged per minute. Then, once the customer is finished, the computer will relock and print a receipt.oes anyone have an idea on how to do this? We've tried programs such as Smartlaunch, but we were having trouble with it, and it appears that an account has to be created for each user. The point of the set up we require is so that we don't have to be present for the customer to pay to use the computer.

NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Mpbs Ethernet

The CAT 5 Ethernet cable network cable is attached to our main Linksys WRT320N DD-WRT router ---> Motorola SB5101U DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Modem ---> Coaxial cable from wall outlet. Another computer is also directly connected to the same router via CAT 5 Ethernet cable and two more computers are wirelessly connected to the same router and none of these three PCs are experiencing issues so this should rule out the router as the culprit.if I leave the computer on (even for hours) with no network cable attached to the computer, it does not turn off. But as soon as I plug in the network cable, the PC will shut itself off within 5-15min.Based on the same scenario as described above, here are the troubleshooting attempts I made without success, except for numbers 4 and 6:
1. Switched to different network cable and router port.
2. Disabled Network Adapter connections in "Network adapter settings" for both the onboard ethernet port and wireless adapter.
3. Ran MSCONFIG.EXE and rebooted in diagnostic mode. Only basic Windows services are loaded. No startup programs are loaded.
4. Rebooted in Safe Mode with networking but could not establish any network LAN/WAN connection. Computer did not shut off!
5. Cloned entire hard disk to another hard disk and switched SATA data and power cables on the same computer.
6. Installed fresh Windows on different hard drive on the same computer. Computer did not shut off!
Out of those 6, only numbers 4 and 6 were where the computer remained on and didn't shut off at all after the network cable cable was plugged in.

I am running an Advent desktop PC and its stats are as follows; Intel Core i5-2310 CPU @ 2.90GHz 8GB RAM Win 7 64 bit.The problem I am having is when ever i boot up the computer it shows the Advent logo-screen where I can access the boot menu etc but then it goes to a black screen with a cursor/underscore flashing in the top left... This screen stays for quite a while and I am not sure if it stops because of a key I have pressed or just because it has run its course but after it disappears the computer goes back to the logo-screen for a moment and proceeds to boot up as normal except slightly slower than usual. It is a relatively new computer and it has no problems running at all once the boot up is complete it is fast and as friendly as ever.

OS - Windows 7 Professional 32-bit
Okay, the past few days my computer wasn't all ways booting the OS up straight away, it would freeze at the windows 7 logo screen. However, after a few times of restarting my computer, it would load up my OS fine.
This morning when I turned my computer on, it froze on the windows logo screen. I've chose both the "Launch Startup Repair (recommended)" and "Start Windows Normally", neither work. They both freeze upon trying to load.
Trying to launch startup repair, takes me to the screen where there is a gold bar scrolling across, loading, with Microsoft corporation underneath. That loads fine, however, after that, the screen goes completely black.
Trying to launch windows normally brings me to the windows 7 logo screen with the coloured flag and freezes there.
After that, I put my windows 7 installation CD in and tried repairing the OS from there. This didn't work either as i put it in, chose boot from cd, and it would load the files, then when it got to the logo screen, it would do the same thing and freeze there.
So I tried booting in safe mode... So I booted my computer up, pressing F8, I got to the advanced Boot menu, I chose safe mode, that listed all the files it was loading, then when it got to disk.sys, it would freeze. I'm not 100% sure if it froze because I only waited for about half an hour, hoping it would load.
I've tried booting with all the other options under this menu and it still freezes At one point when i was booting up my computer, it showed a BSOD that was to do with memory management, not sure, i didn't write the error message down

It was [Disabled] so in changed it to [Enabled], then rebooted and this is what I saw: After the first two lines about the BIOS version and copyright info it sat for some time then I saw this:I don't have a system disk for this computer.

I started to install windows 7 on my computer got half way through when my boy pushed rest. After starting up it looked like it was starting windows when I got that windows encountered an unexpected rest error. Windows installation cannot proceed. It's telling me to restart computer and then restart installation. When I restart the installation it gets to the same point and does the same thing so I got a repair disc, set my computer to boot from DVD drive and got to bit where it says push any key to start boot from disc. But it does have not let me push any key and tries to start windows and get the same message. GRRR Ok so I try to reinstall vista but It still wont let me push any key to boot from disc.

I don't know if this is a common issue for older hardware, but to me it just seems weird. I have an old ex-work machine by NEC which can and currently does run Windows XP (any 32bit) as well as is capable of Ubuntu. However if I attempt to boot from a Windows 7 / Vista / EmbeddedStandard7 disc, the computer just reboots itself. Before I attempted to boot W7/etc I ran DBAN to remove the sensitive data. No matter what I try, [Windows] Vista or later it doesn't seem to boot, or even get past the 'Press any key to boot from disc . . .' as when I do it reboots. I tried side loading Win7 by hooking the HDD up to my HTPC and installing 7, which all worked perfectly.... until I tried to boot the HDD with the problem computer, when it just reboots every time I ask it to boot from disc. I then tried installing 7 / Vista on top of an XP MCE install; but it still has the same problem - it cannot even finish the install as it reboots and then wont allow itself to boot to continue the install.
