Computer Will Not Sleep After Installing A New Mobo

Aug 5, 2011

Computer will not sleep after installing a new mobo. It starts initiating sleep mode and the fans and such shut off and the screen goes blank but after a second the fans and everything come back on but the screen stays blank and the only way to get it out of this state is to hold the power button until it shuts off. I checked the BIOS and did not see anything related to sleep mode. Where would a setting for this be located?

BSOD When Computer Goes To Sleep Or Press The Sleep Button?

I would really like to solve thiNow, this computer came with an AMD video card, but I uninstalled those drivers and took out the video card and installed a GTX 570 from EVGA. The drivers are up to date, so I am pretty sure the new hardware is installed correctly. Furthermore, it was not doing this for the first few months of having the video card installed. This is very recent, so I don't understand what it could be

Re-Installing For S3 Sleep?

Mar 29, 2011

In order to have a Windows 7 PC turn itself on during sleep to record TV (with a TV Tuner), you must have S3 Sleep enabled in the BIOS. This allows you to, for example, automatically record a 1 am showing of Family Guy without waking up to un-sleep the PC.This worked great on some of my previous installs. When I realized it wasn't functioning on this installation, however, I did a bit of research. This is when I identified the S3 Sleep option. By some kind of mistake, I had toggled it off prior to installation.

Some of you can see where this is going. I need to reinstall windows after having made the BIOS change (no effect until a reinstall is completed). This will be my 7th installation of Windows 7 on this computer (I do a lot of upgrades). So my question is this: Could I do a Windows Disk Image Backup and reinstall from that image, in order to avoid the large pain of reinstalling every single program/ setting/preference, ect.? Will such a backup allow S3 sleep on the new install with the image?

Or is there another kind of backup that might save me from a full reinstallation of everything on my local disk while allowing S3 sleep? If anyone knows any way (I haven't been able to find one online) to allow the [i]existing[i] installation to recognize the BIOS change, that would eliminate the whole issue.

Computer Won't Go To Sleep By Itself?

May 23, 2012

Have a Windows 7 computer running well for 2 months or so, but suddenly, it won't make itself sleep, but has no problem going to sleep with the start menu button. After a lot of Googling, I used "powercfg -requests" in Command Prompt (Admin Mode) and got SYSTEM:[DRIVER] FileSystemsrvnetAn active remote client has recently sent requests to this machine. So I Googled and overrid FileSystemsrvnet with "powercfg -requestsoverride driver srvnet system" and "powercfg -requestsoverride driver FileSystemsrvnet system" (don't know which one worked) but autosleep worked again. The new problem is that the connection will drop while I'm network sharing, which is what the override's supposed to do, right? Is there a better way to fix the insomnia problem?

Computer Sleep

Nov 11, 2009

I would like to set the sleep option for my laptop when on commercial power. I need to know what determines the state in which the computer thinks it's okay to commence sleep. Is it a lack of keyboard/mouse input or is the OS smart enough to understand that an application is running. I do not want the computer to start sleeping while Acronis is performing a timed image backup and I'm fairly certain that Acronis cannot wake up a computer that's sleeping to start its function.

This is very annoying it means i have to shut down the maching everytime i am not using it. The problem is that when i close the lid, the machine pretends to go to sleep for about 10 seconds and then restarts. When I reopen the lid, the machine no longer displays. I have to hold down the power button to force a shutdown and then restart.

Computer Won't Sleep And BOSD

Jan 21, 2013

1. I have have issues with the computer not sleeping properly for the last couple months. Occasionally, instead of sleeping the screen will turn off but the computer will keep running and none of the keys will work, leaving the computer stuck in this state until I restart it manually or the battery dies.

2. In the last month or so, I started getting BOSDs. Here are the details from the BlueScreenViewer:

==================================================
Dump File : 012113-45443-01.dmp
Crash Time : 1/21/2013 12:56:24 AM
Bug Check String : BAD_POOL_HEADER
Bug Check Code : 0x00000019

[code]....

I've updated all the driver I could find, but haven't tried a clean install yet (I do have everything backed up) and have run AVG antivirus which hasn't come up with anything.

Computer Will Not Wake From Sleep

Nov 28, 2012

Recently, my computer will not wake up from sleep mode. Once it enters sleep mode, the only way to get it functioning again is to hold the power button, completely shut it off, and then boot my system back up. It appears as if everything starts back up once I open the lid or press the power button to wake it up, but the screen never turns back on. The fan starts up, the backlit keyboard lights up, the leds all blink, but nothing I try will turn the screen back on forcing me to press and hold the power button for a complete shut down.I have reinstalled the latest Intel HD Graphics driver as well as the latest NVIDIA graphics driver (both the stable and beta release).I do not get a blue screen or any sort of error. Upon the restart, I am not prompted with any error from windows or any signs of the forced shut down.

Computer Won't Always Hibernate/Sleep

Oct 31, 2012

I got my laptop a few weeks ago and noticed that it will sometimes go into hibernate, and other times it will not, and instead hang on a black (but enabled/on) LCD. When you touch the keyboard, it even makes Windows 7 dings for incorrectly pressed key (meaning the OS is still on). If it is going into sleep or hibernate due to low battery and this error happens, it will just keep beeping really loudly at me until the laptop dies (I'm assuming that's the motherboard's part, though).I have no idea what to do, and I'm really freaking puzzled right now. I've already tried turning hybrid sleep on and off, and neither of them yielded any positive results. Anyone have any clue what I should do?

PS: I've noticed last night after gaming for a bit, that the fans remained in a full blast state (yes, even when the game is closed). This might be related to it although I am not sure. Also, I cannot upgrade my video drivers because the graphics are integrated with the Intel Integrated Graphics, meaning the drivers are made by the manufacturer.

Here's my laptop specifications by the way:

-1920x1080 LED Backlit Display
-2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon 7970m
-Intel Core i7 3720QM Quad-Core Processor (2.60GHz), 6MB Cache
-8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz (2 X 4GB)
-Genuine MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit Edition
-Slot 1: 256GB Samsung 830 Series - Solid State Drive
-Slot 2: 500GB SATA 3.0Gb/s, 7200RPM, 16MB Cache HDD
-Integrated High-Definition Audio with THX TruStudio Pro and up to 7.1 Channel support
-Wi-Fi Link 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module with Bluetooth - Up to 300 Mbps
-SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Ports

Computer Won't Wake Up After Sleep Mode

Nov 11, 2012

I built this computer in March of this year and everything worked great. I had my power options set up so I could switch between high performance and power saver for when I'm not using it. Power saver was set up to turn off display and put the computer to sleep after 1 minute. I don't recall changing any of the advanced settings but maybe I forgot something.

I used to wake it up simply by hitting the space bar and everything would come back on. I just did a clean install of Windows 7 two days ago and since then when I choose power saver and it goes to sleep after whatever time I set it to, it no longer wakes up. Well, this is where I'm lost because it still makes the same noises like the fans spinning harder and all that but nothing appears on my monitor. At first I thought it had something to do with my monitor but I just realized that the lights on my mouse don't come on either. Which they used to before when I'd hit the space bar.

My build:
Windows 7 Home Premium
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz
(RAM) 8.00GB
System type: 64- bit
