Dell Inspiron 537S has been working without a problem for 3 years. Suddenly, it will not boot -- the system freezes when the Flash screen appears. I have tried the following with and still get the same result.Tested all voltages on the power supply under load -- all are ok replaced the 3 volt bios battery.Originally, I thought the problem was bad hard drive, but the problem occurs before the operating system takes over. I also replaced the hard drive with a new one. Then I used the original Windows 7 Reinstallation DVD in an attempt to fix the problem. Same result with a new un-used hard drive as with the original hard drive.
Sometimes when I boot up the computer, It freezes up. It will say the network is available like normal, however when we click on anything like a shortcut, start menu, etc.. the screen goes transparent and says the program is not responding, it never responds and if we click "Yes" the whole screen is clear, no start menu, shortcuts, nothing except the desktop background.
I when I went over to my desktop after getting up this morning I found that it didn't react to me moving the mouse, and the screen stayed black even when I turned it on. I turned it off, then back on. It froze during the windows boot screen (black screen + logo ) It kept doing that. Tried System Restore, it froze during that too.On Windows 7 install it freezes during the Expanding phase at random points. What I've tried:Installing on another harddrive. (same result)Windows Restore Memory Diagnostic (no Errors)Chkdsk (not /r the short version, will have to make a boot cd to do that)
about two months ago, my gtx275 video card displayed green artifacts during a game and hard froze my system. i restarted the pc, continued my game, then about 5 minutes later it happened again, only this time it was impossible to boot after restart. when turning on the pc, all fans and leds were working as usual, including the one on the video card, but there was no display on my monitor and the computer wouldn't boot at all (no short beep, no nothing, just a constant black screen). i had another video card around, an 8400 gs, so i tried replacing the gtx275 with that. the system worked fine with the second card, but not with the first one. naturally, i thought the gtx was broken, so took it to the service (warranty), to be repaired. while gtx was being in service (took about 1-2 weeks), i've been using the 8400gs on my system. during this period, my computer would hard freeze as often as once every 15 minutes. happened most during any game, happened less while doing a random thing, such as watching a Internet video, and happened least when my pc was idle
Computer runs very slow. Computer freezes randomly. Does not want to boot past windows startup except for in safe mode(SOMETIMES). IF IT BOOTS takes and an incredibly long time to get to the desktop (20-45min). Does not want to run programs. Runs EXTREMELY slowly (makes a windows 95 pc look like a speed demon.) Random restarts, restart loops, and shutdowns. Sometimes after turning on it will immediately shut off then turn back on. Keeps recommending windows repair on startup. Wants to run chkdsk, then freezes on it.Malware detection programs. Hardware diagnostic programs. registry tools. disk defrags. Driver updates. Windows updates. BIOS update. System restore. Windows repair tool. Repair installation (twice). WINDOWS 7 CLEAN INSTALLATION (twice).Exactly the same as the first day it started happening. So not only did I lose all programs and files, but my pc still runs like crap. Also, this is a higher end pc under a year old. [code]
About a month ago my PC was freezes on bootup. When I eventually got into Windows, the PC would often freeze again resulting in several bootups and system startup repairs etc. I ran several free and paid-for hardware diagnostic applications which all gave the results that no hardware had issues. I updated all the drivers so again eliminating any issues here.
If I close down my computer by switching it off with the on/off switch, when I next boot, I see the message"Start Windows Normally" and a stopwatch which counts off the seconds until the machine will boot normally together with several options to boot into Safe Mode, which is expected. However I cannot select"Start Windows Normally" or move up and down to select Safe Mode options. I have to let the timer run it's course and boot normally because the whole window is frozen
My laptop is continuously freezing after startup. I after booting up and logging in everything will load completely then will often freeze for 10mins to upwards of 50mins, and I will eventually get a Microsoft Explorer error and everything will disappear from my screen leaving up only my wallpaper. And all attempts at bringing up the task manager will not work.
My pc sometimes freezes just before the windows logo starts to play (attached photo) and authorities it boots up just fine! There is no blue screen or anything it just freezes. My pc runs fine otherwise and I am not overclocking. I do not want to reinstall windows as i have lots of software that have had all their serial keys used up. My system is windows 7 64bit retail. My PC has:
Nvidia evga GTX 460 i5 2500k cpu intel DP67DE motherboard 6gb of ram
Firstly, my system specs are on my profile I got a new ram stick for my PC. Here's the link from where I bought it:Flipkart: Corsair DDR3 4 GB (1 x 4 GB) PC RAM (CMV4GX3M1A1333C9): RamSo I put it in and booted up the computer. Worked fine till the welcome screen of windows7. I then logged in and after the startup processes were loaded, I got a blue screen of death. Got it couple more times when I booted it up. After that the screen never gave any BSOD. Just kept freezine. This kept happening again and again. I thought it might be because my older corsair ram sticks could be conflicting with this one. So I booted it with the new stick only. Same freezing of screen. So it definitely isn't conflicting RAMs.
I decided to see if the problem is with the stick or some driver issue. So I booted into Ubuntu and am currently typing through it. Been using it since a couple of hours and is working fine. So this definitely is a windows issue with the RAM stick as windows works fine if I remove the new stick. Also, windows works fine in safe mode with the new stick too. Any idea what is the issue here? I'll be posting the minidumps of the BSOD in a short while.
I am sure everyone recognizes this: at almost every startup, you see the boot animation. Windows 7 uses those 4 colors that merge into a Windows flag.
But the animation freezes at a random moment, then after 3 seconds it disappears and there we have the normal menu where you choose a profile to login with.
I want to see the animation completely, so making use of those 3 seconds where the OS is loading to continue the animation.
You have this in Windows XP too, where the loading bar freezes.
Are there any solutions for this? It would be fantastic to see the Windows flag at the end, and not just those 4 colors about-to-merge.
have asked this question before but I relocated my question here. I recently built a new computer. i5 quad core, Ga-p55 mobo, 8 gigs of ram- ddr3 1600 corsair, nvidia 460gtx se. When i start my computer up it freezes on the Windows Logo. I tested my ram, for 8 or so tests, no problems. I used 2 different hard drives and the problem happens on both of them. One of them is 500gig which i know works, the other was 750gig. when windows does load it takes about a minute or 2, with no other programs on it
Each time I turn on my PC, it boots up fine, but then when I open FireFox, I get a freeze up. I can still see the cursor and move it with the mouse, but there is no response when I click on anything. I have to shut the PC of manually and then when I restart it again, things work normally for the rest of the session.
I have a problem where windows 7 freezes just after logging in. It's happening on a new build (i7 2600k, asus P8Z68-V PRO, thermaltake 775w psu, 16gb 1833mhz corsiar vengence, crucial 120gb ssd, evga gtx 570). for three weeks the computer ran great and super fast. while playing a game it froze and required a hard restart. I began playing the game again and 20 minutes later it did the same thing. after another hard reset it began freezing after logging in. Sometimes getting stuck, sometimes getting a blue screen. in safe mode the computer would work fine. I had the asus autotune OC on the first time it happened, subsequent times had it off.
I discovered the issue seems to be the video card driver. after removing the gtx 570 the problem still occurred with the onboard video and intel drivers. When i uninstalled the intel drivers and just had standard vga there were no problems. this led me to believe it was a motherboard issue. luckily my motherboard was under 30 days old so i returned it for a new one. Same problem and i'm stuck on what the solution might be.

I am struggling to fix my computer. It all started when I went to install an 3rd 1 TB drive to my computer. The computer seemed to boot up just fine, then once windows started to load, I got the BSOD. Now I have disconnected all the drives but the one my os is on. When I load windows, I get a couple mins of use, then everything just freezes. I can work with safe mode a little, but it will randomly reboot after a few mins sometimes. I don't know what the problem could be. Here is what I have done/attempted so far. Disconnect all unnecessary devices - no changeRan a memory test - okTried startup repair - it says it fixed a couple problems, but I have not noticed any changesRan a DiskCheck - Fixed a couple bad clusters, but I have not noticed any changesSwapped PSU with one I know works - No changesRight now I am running a virus scan, I'll post later what the results were. I have attempted to do a system restore, but windows keeps crashing before it completes it. System Specs:Windows 7 x64AMD Athlon II x4 635MSI 880GMA-E458 GB DDR3 RAM (4x2GB)Saphire Radeon HD 5450
Whenever I boot from an alternate source, (Knoppix linux CD boot, windows XP from dual booting), windows 7 freezes at the login screen. It does this everytime without fail, and only after the alternate boot once.
After this happens, I turn off my computer and restart and it boots fine. I did install a dual boot and mess with the partitions, but I found this happening even after I booted from a linux cd (knoppix, and did not change anything)
So it seems that after booting from an alternate source something changes for the windows 7 boot, and after a hard reset it fixes?
When i put my cd/dvd in computer, computer freeze and i need to restart. Now i don't know if this is because of windows 7 or it's something wrong with computer.
Im having some problem with my computer. First of it freezes up quite often, it slows down repeatedly time after time. Especially when the computer have been on for 5 -10 minutes. But I have been getting 2 blue screens, both when just browsing the web.
OS Windows 7 ProOut of the blue, I started noticing that all the desktop icons were going blank, mouse freezing and now when I reboot, it locks up at the AUTO DETECTING USB MASS STORAGE DEVICES

I have checked all the USB things are connected properly, all cables etc. are in but no luck!I can vaguely recall seeing something somewhere during my travels over the PC something about a "media disconnected" and I am sure it was saying something like bigpond.qld.com.au ........... Not 100% sure though.
I've had this laptop for about 2 years, and recently (about 2 weeks ago) it's been very slow, freezing if I start chrome or other software, delay going into system options when I click ctrl+alt+delete. But today, it froze again and it wouldn't budge so I held my power button to turn it off and restarted it, and shortly after it booted up, it froze and the mouse wouldn't even bother to move or click anything, everything was frozen. I've tried restarting several times already but it still freezes, although safe mode works for me which is what I'm using right now, I've already used the "Last Known Settings that worked" feature and it can boot when I do a selective boot with just the drivers. But normal boot settings do not work.
Furthermore, I've ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool which showed no errors at all after it was fully completed. So I'm quite unsure what to do because I attend a laptop program at school and regularly use my laptop for work.I made sure my drivers are all updated by using Driver Genius Professional which I've had for quite a while.I've also tried to use system restore to many restore points but it just boots up and gives me the message of how it has failed.
I seem to have a problem, I recently created a usb drive with windows 7 on it but I can't boot from it at all, what I mean is when I press etc., on my keyboard it brings me to boot from device menu, when I tried to navigate to my usb stick and press enter it just freezes my pc, I tried waiting but it just brings up a error on my screen that windows did not boot properly.
every time I boot Windows 7 64bit it slows down for about 2 seconds, then freezes, except for the mouse. Nothing will recover, and this happens within a few minutes of boot up. I don't know what to do, I need things to try
after computer boot up to desk top i click on a program, any one and it opens. At this point nothing else will open and only the mouse can moe around. The only way to get going is to hit contr, alt del, than click on task manager and end what ever task is showing if any.then the compupter reboots and every thing works.
Well i had bough Gta IV for pc. And after some updates required by the game it needed to restart my pc, when it booted back up, it had said some files were corrupted and i couldnt boot the OS. I tried installing, but it kept saying boot Mgr was missing, and said to press ctrl alt and delete and restarted the system. After weeks of trying, i used an actual program on my laptop and burned an iso of windows 7 to a disc. I went thru the install and after using any somewhat demanding task or program like internet explorer it would freeze, mouse, keyboard, etc would freeze. I had to hard reset it. Now most of the time it gets to where it shows the green, blue and red colors or something spinning to form the windows logo and then freezes. Ive tried various methods of switching around hardware like video cards, switchin ram, etc. Still same results. Ran memtest and cant get results due to it freezing.
I have a samsung dvd writer my specs are os windows 7 ultimate 32 bit primar and secondary hdd 160 gb [code] i also have an asus dvd writer along with the samsung dvd writer. My dvd writers were working fine until after a failed burn attempt after which my computer freezes whenever i insert a dvd in the dvd writer.
My Windows 7 Dell Inspiron 1440 laptop freezes after startup. This randomly started one day after I had normally gotten on the computer and decided to boot it back up. The computer starts up normally, and all the icons load up, but the connection bar has a circle on it. I can click on things, but nothing happens, it just highlights things. And when I hit control alt delete, the computer freezes and a few minutes later, it pulls up this thing that says the logon process was unable to display security and logon options when CTRL+ALT+DELETE was pressed. If the Operating System does not respond press ESC or restart the computer by the power switch In windows 7.
As I turn on my computer it starts working until it starts loading onto my desktop, I don't actually know what's going on because nothing has changed at all in the past few days. I've tried running it in safe mode, same thing happens.
