View 3 Repliesi have Compaq Presario CQ40-717TU Notebook PC, the problem is
my netbook support for windows vista, but i want to downgrade it to windows xp, because some school work still using windows xp. I've been surfing everywhere.
I can a lot of tutorials some of which is flash the bios. update bios with its high risk. As for some of them give a tutorial to make your own xp sata, using "nlite" and I became confused when I have to find a suitable driver for ahci [CQ40-717TU].
I can't seem to find the system drivers Windows 7 for "Compaq CQ40-517TU" I mean the chipset, audio, video and important drivers. I already look for drivers on HP sites but only HP bundled drivers are available. There is no drivers for system. View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Notebook is HP/Compaq CQ40-323AX. When I seed the windows7, I love it at once. And I have installed Windows 7 to virtual pc. But I want to install Windows 7 to my notebook but not virtual pc. So some problems occurred. It's the driver. Because the Windows 7 was based on the vista, I think it may run well when using the vista drivers (The drivers were downloaded at www.hp.com.cn)
Who can tell me I can do as I think? It's my thought right?
Or someone can give me a better way!

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe problem is I have two DVD Combo drives. Both of them are not working unfortunately. The drives will take the CD/DVD in but doesn't read anything. When I called a professional he informed me the computer is outdated and I need to update . So I took his advice and updated the MOBO and processor. I kept the other components as it is. After upgrading the drives were working fine. Then all of a sudden I have the same issues again. This time atleast I want to check with the great minds here to see if I can get a help. Lemme tell you I am no noob when it comes to computers but not an geek too. I know how to execute the solution you guys are gonna give me. Here is my config.

To give you heads up I have Googled the issue and found some so called solutions but nothing worked for me.
1. Changing the Link State Power Management settings.
2. There are no upper and lower filters so I couldn't do anything more.
3. Uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers.
I've recently installed Win 7 Ultimate x64 on both of my PCs, and neither can read my DVD+R discs properly. I've got dual-boot on both systems, so I've checked and there's no problem at all in XP, but in Win 7 the drive goes crazy, almost like it's trying to read different parts of the disc at the same time. Anyway, it shows the contents but when I click on a folder, that's when it starts chugging and Explorer locks up until I eject the disc.I did a fresh install of Win 7 into a VHD on PC 2, and that doesn't have any problem reading the discs, so something's happened on both since installing Win 7 I guess. I also used an XP guest in Virtualbox on PC 2 and that could read the discs just fine so it was obviously able to bypass whatever issue Win 7 has.I had Daemon Tools on both PCs, but uninstalled it completely (including the SPTD driver) on PC 2, which didn't help. Neither did uninstalling Avira Antivir. I've disabled Indexing/Windows Search on both PCs, as well as Win 7's CD Burning function (via Group Policy Editor).
The DVD drive is not recognized after you install Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 which I've installed on PC 1 to no avail. PC 2 has SP1 installed. It's obviously rather annoying to have to boot to XP (or use a VM) to copy files from DVD to my hard drive so that Win 7 can access them, so if anyone knows how to fix this problem I'd be most grateful.

View 4 Replies View RelatedFor some reason my dvd drive is not reading discs. It has been working before, and now it doesnt seem to read any discs i put in the drive. It also doesnt make any noise or any sign that it is in. My problem is is that the dvd drive isnt recognizing the dvd's i put. Even if if put a disc in the drive the D drive says that there is no discs inserted when there is. I am not sure if this is a hardware or software malfunction. I have tried:
1. deleting MousePoint2 in the registry and restarting.
2. uninstalling my cd/dvd drives then rebooting
3. deleting the upper and lower files in the registry or whatever that was
when the drive was working i remember leaving a disc in the drive then shutting down the computer.
My specs are
Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit service pack 1
Dell inspiron 620
intel core i3 3.3 ghz
intel hd graphics family

- Using Microsoft Fix it (No problems found)
- Deleting the Upper and Lower filters (Still wont show the DVD icon - Unread disc)
- Troubleshooting (No help at all)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using my tv right now with it, it works fine hooked up to a TV. I've tried everything I know of. When the laptop first starts up, It flashes the red compaq screen, then goes black. Flashes the user login screen, then goes black 2 sec later. When I do the fn+f4, the screen flashes back on, everything looks cool, then 5 seconds later it goes black again. It's not just the light, it goes completely off. (Just on the laptop, external monitor works) I've tried restoring back to factory settings, recovery, and I'm not getting anywhere! I've even tried that black screen fix by Prevx. Oh and I also tried turning the laptop off, holding the power button, etc. It has windows 7. CQ61 I think is the model.

Nothing happens when I press ESC, I am just stuck on this screen.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a cq56-219wm. The LED code leads me to believe that the cpu has died. However, I have already replaced it with a new one and still am getting the same code with no boot up. I have tried the power reset by holding the power button for one minute and still nothing. The fans are functional as well. My question is, what would the next step be for this laptop repair and will it be worth it on a 2 year old machine?

View 8 Replies View RelatedCompaq presario with Vista. Trying to do a clean install of windows 7 on comapq presario f500. Problem is the machine will only boot from hard drive. Cd drive works fine just can't boot from it. Windows 7 install disk won't boot. Windows xp install cd won't boot. In bios setup I've move the dvd/cdrom drive to top of boot list still no luck. So I got tricky booted from vista and starting windows 7 install cd from windows explorer. Install hung part way through and I had to turn off the computer. No I can't boot vista and have an incomplete install of windows 7 which won't boot. Not even safe mode. When you boot hit Esc the boot menus only shows notebook hard drive as an option. I've also tried unpluging the battery to clear out.
