Taskbar - Change Icon Button Width Size?I need to change the minimum size of minimized windows. Because asd I am greatly annoyed by Taskbar Thumbnail Preview, I've disabled it (and grouping as well). And now I can't tell which folder is which, because Microsoft decided to shrink all minimized windows to the size of an atom:
I can't change the width of my taskbar. I have unlocked it and tried to resize it, it would only allow me to adjust the height. I have highlighted the problem in the attachment. I don't know if Firefox is causing it, but just in case, I have Firefox 3.6.21.
I just got a new computer with Windows 7 at work. Irregardless of the software I am running, anytime I open up a new window, it is automatically opened minimized. How can I get the system to automatically open all windows maximized like my old system with XP? I tried changing the properties of the program shortcuts but it doesn't make any difference whether I set it to Normal, Maximize or Minimize. The windows always open up minimized.I did a google search on this problem and cannot find a single other sole with this problem
My remote PC is running Windows 7 Pro while my laptop is running Windows 7 Home. I am using RDC version 6.1.7600.16385 on both my laptop and my remote PC but after I connect to my remote PC using RDC and I minimize the RDC screen on my laptop, after maybe 10 minutes, it disconnects. If I maximize the RDC screen, it will reconnect after 30 seconds or so but what setting do I tweak to stop this disconnection altogether or at least lengthen the time before it disconnects to 30 minutes?
Minimized windows open and disappear immediately behind maximized windows. Like as soon as it finishes opening! In order to view it or work on it I have to minimize the maximized windows. Or exit them. I know I caused it somehow.
Like if I have a few windows of my browser open and minimize it, it will go into one and I have to click it, then the one I want. But this annoys me. Can I change it?
When I have multiple Outlook 10 windows minimized (e.g., calendar and specific event) and then I click on Outlook in the task bar, it shows me the windows but will not let me do anything. How do I get them back to maximum? I am running Windows 7 and I think this may be the same issue with other apps.
Just updated from Vista 64 to Windows7 64 build7100 .
Using DellWFP 32" monitor and ATI v7200 video card.
My desktop will not extend all the way left to right or top to bottom on my monitor.
It has black bar around desktop extending to edges of monitor.
When I set screen resolution to max 2560x1280 or recommended 1280x800 , then desktop goes full height and width of monitor. However these settings do not work for me at all.
Any other resolution setting and desktop is centered on monitor, very small with black all around it.
Here is image I took with my camera, as a screen shot only displays the desktop. This shows how the desktop is residing within the monitor. I've tried every resolution setting there is for this video card , checked to make sure I had the latest drivers also.

Pages that I minimize disappear from the taskbar when I go to another webpage.
If I minimize a folder or firefox window etc I cannot bring it back. If I mouse over the tab at the bottom the preview flashes up for a second then goes and any clicking or alt tabbing will not restore it.
the two most prominent being an issue with the 2 monitor setting bringing the window up on a non existent screen and a program on the startup boot list causing the problem. I have eliminated both these possibilities and a few others and the problem still persists. As a workaround I can still access the windows through task manager > applications and switch to/bring to the front but this is very awkward and I need a fix not a work around.
I performed a system recovery very recently on my HP Pavilion (Running Windows 7 OS). I re-installed Chrome as my default browser and my other programs. Lately, whenever I open my browser or any of my other programs, every page starts minimized and I have to use the maximize button to get a normal view. This was not the case previously and I do not know what has been changed in the system. Frequently, I use AVG PC Tuneup to clean up junk files, clean the registry, and defragment the disks. Is there a setting that is perhaps being erased by all the cleaning?
recently any programs I minimize won't show up on the taskbar, but if I alt-tab it'll show back up. I tried google for answers but I could not find anything.
If i minimize all my programs and see my background on desktop. If i open up internet explorer, all the other programs minimized will open up in the background! It's really anoying...What could the problem be?I use 1920x1080 in desktop and in games for example. And if i play Heroes of Newerth and i alt-tab, IE appears in the background of Heroes of Newerth and i can still see it beeing in the background. I tried differented "fullscreen/windowed mode" stuff there, but no difference.
I have a program (Virtual DJ) which up until recently has worked fine, but now opens minimized on the task bar and will not maximize. Task manager shows program is running. PC is a laptop which is not set up for multiple display so window is definitely not open on wrong screen.
All of a sudden running programs that I have minimized no longer have an icon on the task bar so that I can open them up when needed. I have to go to the task manager to get to them. Not sure what I did but I can't seem to get them to display on the task bar again.
I like listening to an online radio station (through Windows Media Player) every time I use my computer. So, I put a shortcut to the playlist file in my Startup folder. But, even though I selected "Run: Minimized" in its Properties dialog box, it always runs in a normal window. (Then I manually minimize it.)So, how can I force the shortcut to open Windows Media Player in a minimized window
In preparation for sending my laptop to HP for a hinge replacement, I decided to backup all my data (via System Image). My plan was to then perform a Minimized Image Recovery: so as to wipe off all my data, but still keep the computer running nicely. The attempt to wipe my data failed.Whenever I try to boot my computer now, I am presented with "Windows Boot Manager" [see attached image]I don't have an OS disk.
Our company runs its phones on a standard corporate IP phone system. We have a piece of software that runs on each computer to allow that person to look up extensions, place calls, manage their voice mail and so on. Unfortunately this piece of software only runs on Windows XP, not Windows 7. I was able to bypass the OS problem by running it in XP Mode on a computer and everything was going fine until someone tried to dock the bar.
In XP you can move the bar to one edge of the screen and it'll dock itself there. In Windows 7 it appears that trying to dock the window minimized it to the notification area and now it wont open up again. My question is, how do I get it back out of the notification area? The icon for the software is there and I can right-click on it to gain an action menu but there's no way to bring the window back up to access the voice mail buttons, type in names to call or the like. How I can pull a piece of software running in XP Mode out of the notification area?
when i open a video file and media player opens up it opens reduced to the task bar then i click to bring it back up and its a minimized version of the player not maximized
I have three computers, one desktop (what my listed specs are for), a laptop, and a netbook. Each are running some version of Windows 7 (Ultimate x64, Home x64, Home x86). On each computer, if I minimize a connected AIM, Yahoo, or MSN account.. Also any Telnet connected windows/Telnet based platforms that are currently connected to a server.. After a good 2-4 minutes of being minimized, all programs are disconnected. At first I thought it was an internet problem, but that isn't the case (program(s) run fine without any hiccups as long as its an active window).
The problem occurs for some program when installing or running.. In installation window the window is minimised as always and some option get hidden, like they cut off only slightly showing a portion of selection button.. Like when installing program there shows selection button like, NEXT to carry on installation and CANCEL button to stop installation. It happens like NEXT button partially showing and other selection button cut off outer of that minimised windows.. Same problem with apps which use by default minimised window. Some selection option cutoff.. Though there no option to make those apps maximised.
When I play bfbc2 (fullscreen) this comes up and minimizes the game. I really dont know what it is or what it does. I cant seem to get rid of it. I dont really have any unkonwn programs or services on my system.
I installed Windows 7 on new computer. Some programs start up minimized most of the time - but not always. At least Mozilla Thunderbird and Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 keep doing that to name a few. The shortcut properties have "Run" as "Normal window" for both programs. I think I've also tried closing them with Ctrl pressed as suggested somewhere.
As for other similar problems, I get occasional problems with opening windows from the taskbar groups. The window shows up nicely when hovering over the thumbnail picture of the taskbar group, but when I select it, it just flashes on the top and then disappears / goes back behind other windows. Alt-tabbing seems to work flawlessly, but it'd be nice to be able to use the taskbar too.
I've noticed later that Alt-Tabbing doesn't work always either. They suggested me to try and pin software to taskbar at bleeping computer. Both Thunderbird and Premiere have started normally when launched with the pinned icon instead of the desktop shortcuts. That's not the real solution though and the problem remains at least with Windows Media Player. It goes often minimized when launched by double clicking a video file on explorer.
I did a search on your site and found Toasty's post (Programs start Minimized, will *NOT* maximize.). Also it said in some post that you should press Alt when closing. I'll try that next time the problem occurs, but I doubt it's the solution as the programs sometimes open normally and sometimes don't. Either way there's also the problem with the taskbar...
