i just upgraded my windows 7 starter in toshiba netbook to windows 7 ultimate by keying in reg number using windows 7 anytime upgrade. Then the msg said it was upgrading and restarted. when it was logging off, upgrading windows was only 30% complete and then it shut down. when i started the netbook, windows won't start. the msg is start windows normally or system repair. tried both but no success. can't even start windows using safe mode, using last configuration settings etc.
I have a desktop pc running Vista & a netbook running Windows 7 Starter. Is there an upgrade option that will allow me to upgrade both machines to Windows 7 Home Premium in a single purchse, or will I need to purchase separate licenses for each required upgrade?
My laptop has windows7 starter installed. i have purchased anytime upgrade to home premium but it won't install. The product key is recognised. Microsoft doesn't seem to offer any support without payment.
I have a Samsung Netbook which came with Windows 7 Starter and I am finding that I miss the extras of Home Premium Retail which installed on my Desktop PC. I have the Home Premium installation disk which I used, but as far as I am aware it is a single use licence.
I bought an Acer Aspire One netbook with Windows 7 Starter on it, and I have a Windows 7 Ultimate installation DVD that I want to use to upgrade my netbook's OS. I put the DVD into an external DVD drive connected to my netbook with a USB cable and started the installation wizard.
I chose the "Upgrade" option and the installer said that I need to use Windows Anytime Upgrade for that. The problem with that is that I don't want to buy a new license, since I already have this DVD. How can I upgrade my netbook's OS from Windows 7 Starter to Ultimate with the DVD I already have?
I left my computer - which is an Acer Aspire One, that I purchased, refurbished, a few months ago from a local dealer and came preloaded with Windows Starter 7 - closed, but without turning it off, for a few hours while I ran out to a cafe with a friend (which I've done hundreds of times before. But, when I came back, it was frozen on the firefox tab I had open when I left. So, I figured, I'll just turn it off with the power button and turn it back on. When I did this, Windows stalled out while opening and wasn't going anywhere, and then the screen went black and it went back to the Acer splash screen and told me that Windows had failed to start and suggested I run Startup Repair. So I did, and, after about 5 minutes, it went to a blue screen with a white hummingbird and some curly bits behind it, and a slightly distorted cursor that moves on the screen when I use my keypad and hasn't moved since. That was about 20 minutes ago. I'm really stressing out, because I don't know what to do, and there are files on there that I need for work.
I upgraded this lunchtime from Windows 7 Starter to home premium via the Windows Upgrade Advisor which said my netbook was compatible, I carried out the upgrade via the windows upgrade advisor. It worked fine for a while but I was having trouble trying to set up my LAN and wireless connection to work together in order to get onto xbox live via BT Openzone. After a while the advice from the microsoft website was to carry out a system restore, so I did and used the recommended date, however on trying to restore the ugrade failed and reverted back to windows 7 starter. Tried again and had the same issue
This problem started a week ago, when the Acer Aspire One 532h would not boot. Eventually, even restoring it using the partition failed. I have ordered the Acer recovery discs which will restore it to Win 7 starter. But yesterday, just on a whim, I turned on the netbook and was able to restore it successfully. I then installed Webroot SecureAnywhere Essentials and have run numerous scans that found no threat - so this does not appear to be malware. (The unit had avast! free AV before this trouble started.) I then spent hours installing Win 7 updates using the Windows Update utility on the Acer. However, near the end of the Win updates, Windows crashed and the screen went black again. When this happens, the unit's power stays on; this is not a fan/overheating problem, I don't think.
This a.m., the Acer booted successfully, and I then uninstalled Office and installed Open Office. The unit then "blacked out" again. During this time, I also tried to install Java, since I had been getting a pop-up that it needed to be updated. Java would not install successfully, and the Acer then started "blacking out" several more times. I was finally able to boot it in Safe Mode to turn it off. But it took several attempts.
Rather than running the recovery discs from Acer for Windows 7 Starter, I am considering upgrading to Win 7. Can anyone tell me if this might solve this problem? Or should I just proceed to order an external drive to run the recovery discs?
I have a Acer Aspire One D255E and im tryin to upgrade from windows 7 starter to windows 7 ultimate i used the upgrade anytime an put the key in it accepts the key and starts the upgrade then it stops an says try again an when i try to put in another key code it keeps loading the one an i cant try another what can i do to get this to work?
Im giving a new netbook as a gift but it comes with windows 7 starter. Is there a reason for not upgrading to Home Premium due to ram, etc? Ive heard starter is recommended for net-books but its pretty much stripped isn't it?
Also, Is there a way of doing the upgrade through the Windows anytime upgrade but using a MSDN retail home premium key? I ask this because it sounds easier to do that way since it doesn't have a DVD drive.
i have a new acer aspire one D250 netbook. it's OS is Windows 7 starter. i want to upgrade it to Windows 7 ultimate.will my new OS (if ever) be still genuine/licensed?
I upgraded my windows vista SP1 with windows 7 beta. It works great but windows media center will not start. When I click I get the cool windows media center logo fading in and out but then a blank screen. When I move my mouse it looks a grey version of a back arrow and windows logo is in the upper left and the standard in color minimize restore and close buttons are there but when clicking on them you get the media center sound but nothing happens. I'm assuming it's trying to set up but hangs.
The only way to close it is to hit the windows logo start button on the keyoard which shows the taskbar on the bottom, right click and start task manager and then clicking end task in task manager. MCE worked normally in Vista SP1. Video card is a new NVIDIA GeForce GT 9400 with a pre-release driver installed. All windows 7 updates installed and re-installed. Sound card is aCreative SB Audigy 2ZS. The sound card does have a game port which did not work in vista or Windows 7. Any one have this problem.
I have recently upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate from Vista Ultimate, and everything has gone okay except for when I press the windows key/Ctrl + Esc on my keyboard, or click on the windows start icon on screen, nothing happens. Another problem is that there are no group icons appearing on the taskbar (IE/windows explorer/media player etc)
Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?
My computer has a problem starting. MBR problem. I'd like to do an installation that preserves everything. Is it possible? The computer will not start to do an "upgrade" repair. However I can remove the HD and attach it to a running computer. Can I use the running computer to do the upgrade install in the damaged hard drive and then put it back in the original computer?
I am trying to upgrade my son's laptop from Vista to Windows 7. My son's computer is a Toshiba Qosmio and I ran the Toshiba Upgrade Tool with no problems. The problem I have now is that the virtual memory service is not starting so when I start the install of windows 7, I get the error "windows could not retrieve information about disks on this computer". I tried to manually start the service and get the error "service failed to start".
If I put it on automatic, it just stays on "starting". Obviously, this is not allowing windows 7 to see my disks. Disk management does not show my disks due to virtual memory service not being able to start. The computer is ready for the upgrade, just can't get passed this problem. I don't want to use the recovery disks if I can help it.
Can I remote desktop from windows 7 starter to any computer with XP or 7, without upgrading to 7 Premium? I am looking to buy a net book that has 7 starter loaded on it, but if it can't remote connect then I need to rethink it. I know most net book's do not have enough RAM to run 7.
I'm working on a NetBoot a acre aspire one and windows 7 starter loads up to the home screen but no icons are shown, nothing it just basically reloads at the windows 7 starter screen. It does have a system restore file from 9-28 but I don't want to use that unleash have to.I ran it in safe mode and the same problem, tried safe mode with networking last good configuration all the same even the dos prompt. All the same.
WindowsStar, my wife's problem is similar, only her Windows 7 Starter won't take her password, so she can't get to the welcome screen. I've pulled the battery off, and also did a restart. Still, the only option is type the friggin' password, and it won't take it.
i have a question mine is a simple mini net book with window 7 starter is there any chance that i can change it to any other windows or i can change the language from polish to English,if as i understood that in window 7 starter has the language only the language when we purchase it,so that i would like to know that is there any possibility to change the window 7 starter to any other windows and if i can do it, how i can do it?is it necessary to go shop or to search a operator and if i do it any damage will destroy my computer
I would prefer to have windows in C drive and all my data in another drive. I don't need HP tools . Deleting this partition will enable me to have linux as dual boot( right now it is not possible as it has already 4 primary partitions ).Is it possible to reinstall windows 7 starter from a cd or pendrive and just enter the serial number given in the sticker at the bottom (like windows xp which came with an installation cd). This way I can partition it the way I want. If it is possible, where can i download an installation cd ?
i got a problem regarding my netbook. Its getting slowly and i think it have a viruses. i would like to format it but i don't know how because i'm using windows 7 starter.

I have a sony vaio netbook with W7 starter but it is in Spanish! I have W7 ultimate on my external HD and want to replace the W7 starter on the sony with the full ultimate version.
My Dell 1100 notebook has Windows 7 Starter installed. I know that in this system the search function works in the form of a search box which appears when clicking the start icon. However, the box has never appeared. I have been suggested by some acquaintances that the search box is not pre-installed in Windows 7 Starter. But, as a matter of fact, I have seen that it is indeed as you can gather from visiting the Microsoft page.
My netbook crashed luckly I have an external cd rom drive, and the recovery discs. How do I get the netbook working again though. What are the steps I need to take.
