I inadvertently downloaded and installed the US version of Windows 7 instead of the UK version I cannot change the keyboard layout to English UK as no option is available, is there a way round this problem.
i have installed 7100 on two machine... one is Dell XPS, one is sotec... These are Japanese machine, so i have japanese keyboard.
On dell machine, i can use the keyboard as it is, i mean, the keyboard layout is japanese layout... (ie:the @ symbol is not on top of no 2.)..
but i cannot make the same on sotec machine, eventough i have set the same setting as the other machine. When i choose the Japanese keyboard layout, and click preview, it show the normal US layout.
I am setting up my new PC right now and I have been given the option to choose a 'keyboard layout'I speak English, I'm American, and I'm right-handed.I don't know the differences between the layouts. Which of these I should choose:United States-Dvorak United States-Dvorak for right hand United States-International US?
I am using an alternative keyboard layout (NEO 2.0) and I would like to know how to change the default keyboard layout so that I don't have to change it each time I open a new window!
I'm a new user of the Windows 7 operating system. So far I'm content with it, it's just that I have one problem unsolved. I've been trying for the past few weeks to remove the English US keyboard without any success. I have no problem adding any new keyboards/languages, but that specific keyboard just won't go away, and it's causing me trouble.
I've Googled it and found no answer. Is there any way I could do something about it? Anyone has any idea? Anything would be useful.
XP and vista had keyboard layouts for arabic + digits, so you could use the hindi digits.
It seems in Windows 7, you can only choose arabic 101 without digits, no matter which country you choose, so there's no way for me to type the hindi digits like
My problem is, that after being on my computer for awhile, the English layout will appear out of nowhere in the language bar, even though I do not have it activated, so there is no way I can get rid of it, except for restarting my computer. Does anyone know how I could get it to stop doing this? To most people it probably wouldn't be a problem, but it bothers me to have it there when I won't use it, and I always make extensive use of keyboard shortcuts, and skipping from one layout to another a lot, so it makes it harder and longer to switch between them. I have included a picture to illustrate this.
Also, to avoid making two threads (unless I should), does anyone know how to edit the layouts of the Korean IME's layout, so I can have the Korean characters in a custom layout, instead of the prescribed way?
I am using an eMachine KB-9908 PS/2 keyboard. it has an INTERNET and EMAIL button that I would like to remap to Media player and COD 2. I cannot find the drivers on any website, and I really dont like having to suscribe to $40 software for one-time use. is there a way to navigate through windows .cfg files or the device manager?
I have quite a few input languages enabled on Windows 7 Ultimate and I want to navigate between them using keyboard shortcuts like I used to do on Windows XP. I know how to assign the shortcuts but the trouble is that all of the shortcuts keep getting reset every time I shut down the PC and after I log on again none of them work... I can of course go to Control Panel and assign the shortcuts again but it's a bit irritating when you have to do it for 8 languages every day.Oddly enough, the shortcuts for two of eight languages that I have are automatically restored when I go to this dialog box where shortcuts may be assigned — without me making any changes other than just clicking OK. So these two don't seem to be completely lost, it just seems that Windows 'forgets' about them until I open the dialog box with the shortcut assignments.
can you change the layout for icons in explorer? in windows7 the sorting is
a a b b c c c d d
in XP it was
a b c a c d b c d
when i read file names in Windows 7 it takes min 5x more time to read them.i dont know why sb from ms do this and when, but this is s**t.can you make windows7 to sort icons like XP?
At some point the view/layout of my usb sticks has changed ie everything is in file type view...?How can I change it so that the contents appear altogether like c drive...?I have attached a screenshot of the unwanted layout.I have noticed that in my computer the usb stick shows as removable disk, however if I right click the usb stick and choose open as portable device, it then shows everything as normal...?
I have bought a new computer with Windows 7 Premium Home 64-bit OS pre-installed. I made the mistake of specifying my keyboard type as US during the initial setup. I need to change it to Japanese type. I followed the steps mentioned in documentation to select the desired keyboard type after clicking the Change Keyboard button on the Keyboard Settings window. But it did not work. I am unable to enter Japanese text through my keyboard.
I was wondering if it is possible or particularily unadvisable to change my laptop keyboard to one by a different manufacturer? I've recently got a new laptop (Acer Aspire 5742G) and all is grand, except for the fact that I can't stand having a keyboard with a numpad. The arrow keys are too small and the Fn + whatever keys are all in places I don't like. This isn't a big problem or anything, I'm just curious to know if anyone has done it.
I need to use a lot of greek letters (alpha, beta, ect) on a regular basis, along with modifications of these. It is a pain to have to use the numpad codes every time (when working with many of my formulas, I need to put in multiple codes for the same character due to recurring accents, bars, ect), so I would like to map them directly to my keyboard to make things easier.
I have looked into some programs such as SharpKeys and KeyTweak, but as far as I can tell they only let me move one key to another, not add entirely new characters.
Windows has the Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator, which so far has been the best alternative (I can map anything I want to any key), but it does not seem to allow me to edit the numberpad.
I can't really get rid of any functions of any other keys, so I need to map to previously "unmapped" locations. Originally I wanted to use control + (x) (for example, control + a = alpha), but because most software has so many keyboard shortcuts this has been rendered more or less impossible to practically use. The number pad seems to be the logical choice, but the windows editor does not allow me to change my numberpad.
Is there any way around this, or some other program I can't find? If I could get this sorted, it could change how work is conducted across my entire university.
The typical -go to control panel and keyboard language setting- instructions dont work on Home Premium 7 for some unknown reason. The OS seems to be in English, but the keyboard doesnt want to change to Spanish.
Recent reinstall from partition. Legit copy, came with the laptop. Was working before the reinstall OK. Iirc the default interface might have been showing spanish, which might explain why i didnt have this problem before in the keyboard.
I think I was given the option to choose language at reinstall, and that I chose English. But everyone else who-s had problems with interface language never complained about keyboard issues.
Every so often I get this problem where my keyboard/mouse functions change.
-With the keyboard it's usually a SHIFT lock (not CAPS lock), that is every button that I hit expresses a character or function like as if I was holding down SHIFT.
-With the mouse there are several problems. Left clicking "sticks", so any field where you can select text or draw a selection box will have that happen when I move the mouse around after clicking somewhere in the field. Left clicking any link or bookmark causes it to open in a new page to be loaded. The scroll wheel function changes to forward and back, rather than scrolling up and down. The right mouse button does it's own tricks, but I can't remember it exactly.
This has happened with two different sets of keyboards/mice operating with different drivers. The only solution is to restart, unplugging doesn't solve the trick. I cannot recall exactly what I may have installed around the time the problem showed up unfortunately.
I had a problem with Win7 not starting and the local shop I bought my computer from performed a Win7 reinstallation. I've just noticed a change in Disk Managagment which I'd appreciate clarification on. I'm running Win 7 Home Premium (64-bit)/TWO hard drives each 500Gb/8Gb of RAM, I also have TWO DVD-Rewriters.
When I view a folder full of jpgs I select 'large icons' so I can see thumbnails. Then when I move up the tree to the folders they too are in 'large icons'. I change these to 'list' and my jpgs are shown in 'list' style. How can I select a folder to keep the view type I select as I did in XP?
up untill recently, firefox has been working perfectly, then suddenly pages like Internet and facebook have lost their formatting. then, when signing up to post this question, i found that firefox didnt want to open my emails on hotmail.
i have skimmed through the threads and found similar issues, such as the layout of pictures changing, but nothing the same as mine.
We are all familiar with the fact that for people who dont use a single window in explorer that windows 7 removed much functionality.Window size, position and layout is not remembered anymore. For explorer and many application windows. I've been using a program called windowmanager since windows 7 was released, but the product only sometimes works and is extremely frustrating to get it to work properly and consistently. Now that upgrades are no longer available to me I'm looking around for something else.I remember reading here a couple of years ago about another product, but I can't find it. Does anyone know of such a product? Was it something MilesAhead wrote?
Is there anything like this Vista Forums - View Single Post - Solved stop icons from moving after bootup ? for Windows 7? If not, can someone point me to another registry tweak or program that accomplishes the same thing? I've searched both the Win 7 forum and the internet and couldn't find anything remotely close.
I'd like to buy a device that will (wirelessly) stream content to my bedroom. Here is what I currently have setup: In my living room, I have a dedicated media PC with Windows 7 Ultimate. On that PC I download the TV shows and movies I want to watch.Typical format is mkv and maybe some avi.
I would like to be able to watch some of these shows in my bedroom as well. The layout across the house does not allow for a hard-wired setup; it is completely out of the question. Is there a device that I can setup in my bedroom that will allow me to wirelessly stream these files?
I have been using dual monitors in windows 7 for at least a year or more. For a long time I had it set up with monitor two over monitor one, but now I have altered the physical layout to side by side and want the monitors to reflect this. I have changed it to being side by side in the appropriate windows settings location and in the NVIDIA control panel both, yet when I open a new program (whether it is a game, browser, or media player) it changes back to the old over/under set up. Is there some way I could lock it to the side by side?
When I double-click a message to open it from my inbox, the message opens and the people pane appears below the message. The people pane is from my social connector. However, this position is a bad default. The panes should be side by side (left and right) not top and bottom. The marketplace is full of inexpensive laptops with good horizontal resolution and poor vertical resolution. It's bad enough some fool thought to split up the least available screen resources with a top and bottom look instead of going right and left side by side. Then, the rest of Microsoft followed along and shipped the product that way.So, is it possible to alter the view so that the social information is to the right or left of my message when open?
I have a new computer build where I have Win 7 Pro 64-bit installed on a SSD. Then I have a pair of 1TB drives that I setup as mirroring drives in Disc Management. I proceeded to setup my windows backup to the mirrored drive, but it is giving me the warning: When restoring a system image from this volume, the disks on your computer cannot be formatted to match the layout of the disks in the backup. To have full restore functionality, select a volume on basic disk as our backup location. I am not really sure I even need a backup for the SSD.
It is a small 64GB drive strictly for the OS and surfing the net, minor games (card games, etc.) and a few other minor things. I mirrored the 1TB drives because they are going to be our music server on our network for our laptops, as well as we planned to backup our laptops to the 1TB drive. I figured I would mirror the 1TB in case one crashed we would have the backup. However, if I am having issues with not being able to setup windows backup on these from this computer, I assume I will run into the same issues with the laptop backups. Is there no way to use windows backup to a mirrored drive?
A Compaq Presario CQ62 Laptop running windows 7. I accidentally spilled wine on it and the keyboard no longer worked.I purchased a Microsoft wired desktop 600, but it has no function keys. On the original keyboard I used Fn E12 to connect to a network, but with the new keyboard I can no longer connect to a network. There must be a workaround?
my daughter pressed a couple of keys earlier and now my laptop keyboard isnt working properly. It is really strage because a few keys are working but not in thier usual function. My partner logged out so now i am sat at a login screen and cant key in a password. The on screen keyboard is behaving the same way which is very odd! Any suggestions? I have only had it 3 weeks and have had no problems it's been great. My mrs said she was trying to type in a website and windows kept popping up when she typed, and then she logged out.
