Cannot Access Accounts Other Then The Built-in Administrator

Aug 26, 2012

I've enabled the built-in Administrator account. However, I can no longer access my other account (which is also an Admin account). I even tried creating another account, which also cannot be accessed.Basically: upon login, I get the login screen, however there's only one account, which is the Administrator account. There is a 'switch user' button, which just shows the 'Other Users', which doesn't do anything: entering any account details only says 'invalid username or password'.The first account was created BEFORE I enabled the admin account; the user folder is still there. However, the new account I created has no user folder.

User Administrator Accounts?

Oct 12, 2012

Recently I deleted an account that seemed to be automatic with Windows 7. It was not one that myself or my husband set up, but on that seemed to be administrator-type. I don't recall if it required a password. Anyway, I had no idea what it was for so I deleted it. Since then, I have noticed that windows is not working as well and I have a lot of issues with different webpages (even popular ones like Google & Facebook).Any idea what it was and how to get it back

User Accounts Administrator Change?

Dec 18, 2011

Okay so this is my problem; About two weeks ago my mother got to keep a laptop from work because she was moving schools and it was "outdated".It was on a school domain so it had her login from the schools. At the login page all i had to do was type "name.name" and the password and that was fine. She did not use the laptop anymore so she gave it to me.Even though she was a administrator i was getting sick of logining in as her all the time so i tried to create a new account. I want in to controle pannel and tried to make one but it came up with domain and user name. i tried to create a account but it was saying the rustrelationship with this domain and Lt-D-8JK12S. (the laptop) were denied.I went through another way to create a account through some workgroup thing , it worked. When i had to log on i would have to type Lt-D-8Qjk12Susername and password It only happened about two days ago that it started to have some problems.I could only log on to my account even though it had many different users in the laptops hard drive. it would say that i got my password wrong when i tried to type.the main problem is that i cant do anything because i am not an administrator and i kept being denied when trying making system changes and copy files on to a memory stick.

Cannot Add Or Remove User Accounts While Logged In As Administrator

Nov 24, 2011

For some reason I can no longer edit user account information. The following options do not work:

Add or Remove User Accounts
Create an Administrator Account
Create an Account
Create Standard User Account
Turn Guest Account On / Off

All the options appear, it's just when I click on them nothing happens?! I'm logged in as Administrator, I even unlocked the hidden Administrator account and am still running into the same issues. As far as answers go all I can find is the typical, "do a system restore", "reinstall Windows", crap like that. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium x64.

Built In Administrator Account At Log In?

Aug 26, 2012

I have a Sony vaio laptop running windows 7. Recently I restored it to a previous state, so I decided to create a password for my admin account. Once I completed the password set up I restarted my computer to see if my password will work. Well it didn't. I Got message "your account has been disabled please see admin" (or something like that). Im completely locked out of my computer. The only accounts pop up at the log in screen is the built in admin account and other user. I've tried putting it in safe mode (same result), I've tried the blank pswrd (same result) I've tried alt+clt+del (nothing pops up) and I've tried using my pswrd.

Can't Access Any Folder By Double Clicking, Can't Access User Accounts Or Dell Backup

Mar 4, 2011

I have a Dell Inspiron 545s Desktop - Intel Duo Core 2.93, 6gb RAM, 720gb HD, 64bit Windows 7

I get the message: (every time I try and open a folder on my c/drive - Can't access Windows Explorer folder on the taskbar and any other folder or file by double clicking it. I can open them by right clicking, then open)
"this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a progra or, if one is already installed, create an assocation in the Default Programs control Panel".

I can open applications. But, I can not open the folder for them lets say in c:/program files -- the only way to open them is by rightclicking, then open. If I double click, I get the above error message. (same issue with "my documents", "My pictures", etc).

Included with the above problems: I now, can not access User Accounts. When I go into Control Panel, click User Accounts.. I can not manage existing ones, nor can I "Add or remove user accounts". I click the link and nothing happens.

I have someething built into the computer called "Dell DataSafe Backup". Its a recovery partition/part of the HDD that saves all my files for a recovery. However, I can NOT access it. I click the "Dell DataSafe" in my taskbar and nothing happens..

Hide Built-in Administrator Account After Activating It?

May 6, 2011

Windows 7 has sure made this administrator account complicated. You create a default administrator account when installing Windows 7. Ok, that seems easy. Then for security and daily use you create a Standard account. Ok, only a little less obvious. But then it turns out that there is a hidden Administrator account that is disabled by default. What does that mean? Not so obvious.

Now, I had a reason to activate the hidden account. Definitely not easy until you search the forums and go through some procedures. Unfortunately, when Windows starts up, there are now three accounts showing, eg., JohnUser, JohnDefaultAdmin, Administrator.

Next step, to make the Administrator account not so obvious, is even more complicated. Figure out how to get NO accounts to show at logon. That is, revert to the old NT clt-alt-del panel where you have to enter both account name and password. (Also disable Show last logon name.) More complicated, but I got there, too.

I thought I was done. But nooooooo. Anyone who pratices safe computing by normally using a standard account knows this drill. You try to run almost any program, or download an update, etc., and you are asked for the password of an account with admin rights. What happens? You get a dialog screen that shows the name of every admin account. In this case, it would show JohnDefaultAdmin and Administrator.

I cannot find any way to enable the Administrator account and have it stay hidden in the circumstance described above.

Incidentally, the reason I needed the hidden Administrator account is that it appears to have some powers that the default administrator account does not. In my case, it was the ability to create a rescue disk without getting the widely-reported (0x80070057) error.

Cannot Access Guest Accounts On Router

Dec 1, 2011

I have 2 laptops - both run Windows 7 x64. Different brands (Asus G73 and Alienware M11x) with different network cards. I have found that neither will access the guest accounts on 3 different routers, all different locations and different brands. Tried latest versions of both IE and Firefox... no go. The tab shows the page is starting to load, where you enter the guest passwords, but the page never loads. It just times out.

I can get into the main admin accounts just fine, but ever the gust accounts. I show a connection via the network icon in the taskbar....then the yellow exclamation shows up. I get the popup that states 'More information is needed to log on - click here to open your browser'. But when I click on that, the browser opens but the page never does. I've set the default browser to both IE and FF... tried opening them via the click and via start button... both 32 and 64 versions...

Is this a Windows 7 x64 thing, as that seems to be the only constant between the two machines...?

Unable To Access User Accounts As Admin

Jul 19, 2012

I'm not really sure when this problem started, but as the admin account and only real user (I set up another account to test my problems) on my HP Laptop, I cannot access the user accounts on my computer. I've tried to access them multiple ways, including through the control panel and directly through the start menu, but when I try to click on anything having to do with the user accounts on my pc, nothing happens. So I am unable to change my password, change my picture, or add or remove other accounts. It's almost like I'm not an administrator. However, according to multiple places on my computer, my account is still an administrator. Also, some programs do not launch unless I chose to launch them as an admin by right clicking, is that normal?

So to summarize my situation, I don't think my admin account is giving me proper access to my computer, limiting the things I can do.

Customizing Standard User Accounts - Adding System Access Without Uac?

Jun 23, 2012

When I search for the words in the thread title I only get references to UAC.Well, I do not think I am interested in UAC.In Windows NT4 it was possible to take any existing account and modify/customize its access rights, per system function. As in allowing standard user Joe to be able to change date, whithout elevation. I could edit the account rights of Joe, giving or removing just about any system access.I need to be able to give some system rights to a local standard account, without elevation. No admin password, no UAC, nothing. At the same time that standard account should not be able to access local policy or computer management or similar, other, system features.

Unable To Access Administrator

Oct 21, 2012

My 15 year old son was trying to bypass Cyberpatrol and in the process of tring to change his account from an adminstrator to a standard user I've made things worse. I changed the administrator account in his name to a standard user account but there was no other administrator account on the PC other then something called CYBERPATROL_SERVICE which is an administrative account istalled automatically by Cyberpatrol. This was the first mistake. Then he guessed the password to Cyberpatrol and attemped to uninstall it...it only 'half' uninstalled it, leaving a real mess of error messages and no access to let me change anything. I can now neither reinstall cyberpatrol or unistall it, nor can I see a way to log back in as an administrator to effect any changes to put things right. Three emails to cyberpatrol have elicited no response so I'm coming to the conclusion the onlu way out is to reinstall Windows 7 and find a different web filtering program- is there any way to log back in a an administrator? I didnt delete the admin account, only changed it to a standard type. Then If I can get back in as a administrator how can I get rid of the unwanted Cyberpatrol?
