View 6 RepliesI need to resolve a problem with a crashing program. I've gone as far as I can with removing almost everything off of my production system. Ideally, I'd like to install Windows 7 on a separate disk, install the problem program and just see if it works on a pristine system. Tech support for the program is clueless as it is a unique problem. I've searched the net far and wide and no one seems to have this problem. Is there a way to do this without pulling plugs on drives and messing up the mbr location(s)?

I am used to XP's picture and fax viewer where when you are viewing a photo and click on a new one, it opens in the same window. With Windows 7 Photo Viewer, everytime you click to a new photo it opens a new window, even if you click the same photo. Before I know it I have 20 photo viewers open.I can't find a preference to always open the next photo in the same window. I found the same question posted elsewhere on the web but nobody had an answer.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 7 Professional x64. I have Microsoft Office 2007 installed and I want Outlook to startup when I startup Windows. I only have the one User account in Windows, so I initially put a shortcut of the outlook.exe in the user startup folder. But to no avail, it didn't startup. So I then cut and pasted this shortcut to the All users startup folder. This worked and it starts up when windows does. The problem is it starts up twice. I then opened msconfig to lookup startup programs. There are 2 instances of the Outlook listed but when I disable one it disables both and nothing starts up. I then re-enable it and it starts up twice again.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently installed windows 7 home premium on my new SSD drive. I previously had windows 7 installed on a 2GB HHD drive (same win dvd, same serial). I booted with windows dvd, and formatted the old c: (which had windows on it). The HHD drive had 2 partitions and i kept the other one ,which only contained one folder with aprox 10 GB of random files, but nothing windows related).
Windows is now up and running from my SSD disc, but in the boot sequence two(!) windows 7 installations are shown, and I'm asked to choose which one i wanna boot with. The top alternative works as intended, but the other one tells me to make a windows repair with the windows dvd. I do not want to repair this (non existing) instance of windows. I want it removed! How do I make it disappear?
1. If I have a primarily single threaded 32 bit application that I want to run multiple instances of on a Win 7 64 bit machine...in order to take advantage of throughput on 2xquad core cpu's
a. Will each instance of the 32 bit application be limited to 2GB of 32 bit addressable memory?
b. Will the total memory available to all of the running 32 bit applications be only 3.25GB or will a machine with say 64GB of memory parse out 32 2GB partitions to 32 unique windows of an application?
2. If the application has driver interfaces only certified in Windows XP (and not functioning in Win 7 (32 or 64 bit)), what is the impact of question 1 above on running multiple instances of the same application in XP SP3 compatibility mode (e.g. are there additional memory/graphic limits imposed)?
I have windows 7 64 and have installed paint shop pro v.7. Every time I open a jpg it opens in a new instance of paint shop instead of opening the picture in the already running instance of the program. I know that there is a way to correct this, but I don't know it, there are several threads online about how to solve this in XP, but not windows 7.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running Win 7_7600 RTM x64.
I was thinking of installing an identical copy on another partition on the same drive. I intend using the 2nd install as a testbed to try different SW before installing it in my main partition.
Is there likely to be any problem if I create such an install?
I am assuming the system will recognize each as a separate install even though the same OS and will keep them distinctly apart.
I have one of the more odd situations I've run into, and of course it's on my computer vs one that I'm trying to repair. Keyboard inputs don't get recognized within some flash games.
Have Win7 x64 with a Microsoft Sidewinder X6, also have a Nostromo. neither will work singularly, neither will work together in several flash games. They do work in some, just not all.
Have tried to update drivers, have tried checking in device manager and uninstalling both then reinstalling each individually and they continue to do similar within those. Have a similar problem in Firefox as well as Chrome. Flash version is: 10,3,181,26
problem also exists in Duke Nukem Forever, but although the problem is similar, I think it's a distinct problem there as some inputs work and all inputs work in some instances but just in gameplay that it isn't working and allowing me to move and/or control two examples of ones that don't work, and one that does: [URL] Also works flawlessly in Battlefield Bad Company 2 and numerous other games.
System Particulars:
AMD Phenom X4 965
8 GB Ram
Sata HDDs
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Microsoft Sidewinder X6
Nostromo N52

View 6 Replies View RelatedI NEED a way to open multiple instances of the Windows On-Screen Keyboard at once. Right now, if i try to open it a second time, it opens the first one (doesnt create a new instance).
i have been to many forums on the internet and still cant find a clear solution. I considered getting a third party control for this, but even they are opening only once.
Basically, I've recently made the long-overdue transition from a 5-years old Windows XP machine to a brand-new Windows 7 one, which I've now had for a few days. Only yesterday, what appears to be a small bug reared it's ugly head.
Any file or folder created or moved onto my Desktop is automatically duplicated with another instance of that item. I say an instance because it's not simply a copy of that file, strictly-speaking, because when the duplicate is clicked, it opens the original file. So, I'm left with two instances of the same file on my Desktop. Just to make this clearer, suppose that, as an example, I created/moved a Plain Text file onto my Desktop. A duplicate of that item would then appear. When clicked, this duplicate opens the very same file, meaning therefore, that I have two instances of the same file. In case you were wondering, the duplicate is also not a shortcut to the original file: bringing up its properties, it has the exact same properties as the originally-created one does. I hope everyone's following me so far.
As well as the strange behaviour mentioned above, the bug also affects deleting files or folders in the Desktop. As I've already said, two instances of the file are created when a file is created on the Desktop. In the same way, deleting one instance of the file also deletes the other - but not straight away. It registers as deleted, but the Desktop has to be refreshed for the other instance to disappear.
i have Outlook 2007 pinned to my taskbar. i have notification behavior set to Hide icon and notifications. I have Outlook set to Hide When Minimized.k, so, whenever i want to see Outlook, i simply click the pinned shortcut on taskbar. when i want to hide it, i click the same icon, and it disappears and goes back to the small pinned icon form. i repeat if i want to see outlook again.... however! doing this, i noticed that each time i click the pinned icon, it is loading a new instance of Outlook 2007.i realized this when i saw the notifications area, and realized there were multiple Outlook 2007 windows available. (right clickign the notifications icon displays the "Open Outlook" button, not as a link, but as a menu.)how can i prevent taskbar from loading multiple instances?

I have been downloading from a couple places, I am surprised that W7 wants to charge us for it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm new to this. I was working with Windows 7 32 bit and recently decided to take advantage of more RAM for recording music by upgrading to Windows 7 64 bit. However, after the upgrade installation my WD MyBook Studio II 2tb is no longer recognized in "My Computer" when I hook it through firewire OR USB (Yet all other devices work as they should) - So I've been to Disk Management and it shows up as a disk. However, there is still no letter assigned to it. When I right click on it, the only option is to delete volume. As you can see in this picture it shows up as disk 2 with three separate regions.
Now, when I hook it up to a MacBook running Leopard the WD MyBook Studio II works just fine and all of the files are accessible. I've also tried uninstalling the drivers, powering down and reconnecting, updating drivers. I've also switched my firewire controllers to (Legacy) in Device Manager. I still am not able to access my external drive within Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium - YET it worked great with 32 bit.
I can't remember if I disconnected the external drive from the computer when I upgraded Windows, but would that potentially have affected the install? How do I get access to my external drive if it won't show up in "My Computer" when it shows up perfectly fine on the MacBook running Leopard? Right now I'm using just less than half of the drive at around 800 GB and it's made up of two separate 1tb drives. I'm completely lost. Does anyone know a solution to my problem? Also: Windows lists my specific external drive as compatible with Windows 7 64 bit.
Is it possible to install a fresh copy of Windows 7 Upgrade (Genuine Retail Copy) onto a completely new hardrive without having any previous Operating Systems?
